Sir, the admission is competitive no doubt, but yes, with that CGPA he can definitely secure admission for a masters program in Canada. I don't know about scholarships...

At least University of Calgary and University of Regina, I don't know about other schools. I'm speaking from personal experience.

I understand the only chance is if the applicant maintained a "B" average in his last 2-4 semesters. Although I understand where you're coming from and admission officers won't discourage you from applying even if they know how competitive their requirements are. Most schools also encourage you to submit GMAT, GRE, letter of intents, Proof of work experience etc. Just to boost chances.

You need to add more details to this. Go through the prof's previous works, read about them and talk a little about how you can assist in those research works.
Put yourself in the prof's shoes, you just got an email like this. You would feel as if the person probably used this format for countless professors.
You need to make the prof know that you have read their works, it shows you are really interested!
Good luck.

Hello All, I just stumbled on this wonderful page. Pls I need all the advice I can get, I’m trying to seek admission for my son to study in Canada, he is 17. Kindly advice on affordable schools that aren’t so competitive like Uni of Alberta and the likes. He wants to study computer science or computer engineering. Thanks
Ps: preferably schools in Alberta or close to
When I tried, the cheapest I could find, for my daughter, whose rankings were still very good were Memorial university of Newfoundland and then Dalhousie university in Halifax. They are all in different provinces. Memorial is less competitive to get into than Dalhousie.

Is it that PhD candidates don't usually come here for their admission/Visa challenges or they are so few that I don't see them

I have been following this thread for a while now and I have been looking for them with no success. Na wa oo....

Please ooo, my people, my first degree was in statistics, second degree was statistics also with first class and distinction respectively. I have been working in a bank for almost 2 years now and I am going for PhD in Biostatistics ("my first love" lol.... As I wish to switch to research in E-Health) and I have been racking my head on how I can relate the work experience with the biostatistics for some time now (in an SOP to the VO as I just applied for the admission...#JustTryingToThinkAhead).

I will appreciate any advice please. Thank you all.

Best regards y'all.

how much could it cost if someone want to do PhD in Canada?
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 16 by Orlarshaynee: 5:20am On Nov 18, 2019
From my experience, it varies. I submitted my passport on the 4th of November 2019, and I asked the guy who collected my passport how long it could take and he said average of 15 days. I researched and found that some people get theirs as early as 3 business days. I am yet to get a mail from vfs that my passport is ready for pick up; although, I suspect that will come today.

I've been having issues with tracking my passport using the tracking ID provided and have had to depend on the email notifications vfs sends. The last one said my passport "is under process at the IRCC Office". However, I got an update on my CIC profile that a final decision has been made and a counterfoil has been attached to my passport.

How long has it been since you submitted your passport? (I am assuming you went through the online route for your visa application).

Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 16 by Orlarshaynee: 6:01am On Nov 18, 2019
LOL. Haba. I know she said to critique her mail, but this was a bit harsh, but funny nonetheless.

Like you suggested, I think she should go through the professor's research and develop an interest for one of the key areas she (the prof) is currently working on.

Also, just a little addition, try and proofread for minor errors such as 'labarotory' spelling. And this may just be me: try capitalising the first letter of the major words in the email subject next time. E.g 'Student Interested in Joining Protein-folding Laboratory'.

I hope this was helpful? cc @rieme26

Ok,... Just for the sake of anyone in the process of applying. I finished with a 3.53 (second class upper obviously). Gained admission at the University of Calgary to study CHEMICAL AND PETROLEUM ENGINEERING (MEng.) and also, gained at the University of Regina to study PETROLEUM SYSTEMS ENGINEERING (Co-op).

Now you might understand why I insist the individual has a fair chance, especially with those schools I mentioned. Best apply very early...

Its either Nairobi hates Nigeria aplicants generally or their quota for the year is filled up... Anyways today was their election, lets wait and see the final decisions from 3rd week of next month, if approvals starts coming by next month, then it will be obvious the reason for the rampant refusals was the election... Good days guys
I’m a graduate of Computer Science with a CGPA of 3.8 that is second class upper.
My question is do I stand a chance of getting a full funded scholarship in any designated learning institution in Canada?
Please your reply would be highly appreciated.

Hello Sammyfrance23,

Your CGPA isn't too bad to secure a funding for a Master programme. However, the GPA of your last 2yrs in your UG studies counts a lot. However, what really matters in securing funding are:

1. Securing a supervisor

2. A well constructed research statement about your research interest.

3. A good reference letter

4. Having publications is a plus.

You can check Memorial University, University of Victoria, Brocks University, University of Waterloo.

Good luck.

Hello Dejeez,

This might be difficult but not impossible. It might be perceived that you ain't a genuine student and thereby using the SP route as a mean to facilitate entry. A Bachelor will be better than a Diploma, though still not guaranteed. However, if you think you can satisfy the VO by going for a Diploma, endeavour to have:

1. Proof that covers your study gap especially work experience or other legal activities related to the intended Diploma programme.

2. Means to justify you study intentions (why a Diploma and not a Bachelor. Why not your country) and hence have what would enable your return. If you have a good economic standing and your level of establishment is solid, this might help.

3. Good proof of funds and a reliable source of funds.

4. Good home ties. See point 2b.

5. A reliable sponsor or as the case may be.

Good luck.

Hello all, please can anyone help me out with university that doesn't require Ielts and Gmat for master's program in business administration/management program and also has an intake session for may.

Hello Arebanmenjoy,

Most Canadian Universities don't demand international students whose official language is English. so you can do a wide and proper school search that meets your academic desire via web search. Also, almost all Canadian universities offering a Master in MBA requires GMAT. However, only few schools exempt this but certain requirement must be met.

BTW for schools with IELTS exemption, you can check Memorial University, Thomas Rivers University, Simon Fraser University, Brocks University, McEwan University etc.

Good luck.

peacico:
I have Bacchelor NSC, Masteers public health n seeking admissions for course based masters in nursing science proofessional stream, do I stand a chance

Yes, you do. I believe you are a RN and this can improve your admission chances. The most crucial part is staisfying the VO on how why going for a 2nd Master. Clearly, you can build on the fact that your 1st Master was MPH. You thought that it would further help you build more on your intended career, but wasn't enough to help you advance it (your career) due to the mode of instruction and the program structure. So, the reason for a dire knowledge in MNS which directly relates to your UG studies of BNS and so forth.

peacico:
Is it wrong to state that your spouse and children will be accompanying you?

No, it is not wrong only if you can show proof of sufficient funds enough to cover their living expenses and show a solid home ties that can compel your (family) return to your CoR. Otherwise, its advisable to go for a sole application.

Good luck.

I am eternally grateful for your detailed response. And thanks for the apologies, its so kind of you.

I will follow your advise and write a convincing LOE.

Frank, you have a big heart and big things in life will never elude you. Remain blessed

Frankrobbn1:

I strongly apologize for the delayed response from me. I had mistakenly skipped your question due to several queries been pasted here with my name in quote. On the other note, thanks for the prayers and best wishes.

Certainly you can apply with your family members (spouse and kids) provided that you've the financial resources to cover for their period of stay in Canada and sufficient ties that would compel your return home after your authorized period of stay. Ties to Nigeria includes - Your aged parents whom aren't accompanying you and requires your constant care and support, rented buildings that yields income to the family, investments in banks, and holding an esteem position (president, vice president, secretary, provost) in any reputable organization in Nigeria etc.

Some of the reasons you could possibly give to justify your intent of travelling with your husband and kids for your studies in Canada can be seen below -

" First and foremost start by mentioning the names of your hubby and children whom are travelling with you to Canada. Explain in the letter that leaving your children in Nigeria will be an emotional burden to you and you may not be able to concentrate on your studies. This is because you don't have capable hands to take care of them in Nigeria. Your mother and mother in-law are in their old age and can't take care of them. Secondly, your husband work will not permit him to take good care of them. You intend to travel with them so that your husband will take care of them, while you're studying and you can also supervise them with any little time you have."

Please refer to GOINGFORWARD DETAILED SUCCESSFUL TRV PROFILE , She secured her study visa last year with her entire household (husband and kids). I trust the list of documents she included along side her application would be useful in your application.

Furthermore, bear in mind that children above 5 years must apply for a study permit before they enter Canada. You don't need to secure an acceptance in any school in Canada for them to be eligible for a study permit. All you are required to do is to search for a childcare close (creche, or primary school) to your University, attach the email conversations between you and the childcare. This would prove to the visa officer that your kids will be enrolled in school and well take care of once they arrive Canada and for this reason wouldn't be an obstacle to your studies.

I hope this information is adequate enough to provide clarity to your questions.

It shall end in praises

Hello Sammyfrance23,

Arguably, admission process into Canadian universities has become very competitive with no admission guarantee, even with a good academic profile.

Advisably, depending on your budget, apply to more schools (2 - 3 or more). You can shuffle the programmes into Master and PGD/C. Also, aim to at least 1 college. This would help you save time, as the admission process can be time consuming.

Good luck!

Hello Orlarshaynee,

To the first bolded, your observation is absolutely correct. That time frame was before IRCC made secondary verification after PPR mandatory. In most cases, a submitted passport could stay beyond 2wks or more, depending the case.

To the second bolded, congratulations. You scaled through the secondary verification.

Congratulations!
