I am not sure I completely agree with this. I do agree that Nigerian society is not merit driven and does not support hard work.

However.

Nigeria's economy and its society are at a stage of development in which only particular intelligences can scale. Lets look at Fintech payments vs small business holder inventory management. Fintech payments do better because market size approximates to population size but how many small business holders do automated inventory management? Two intelligences, two different results.

The economy and societal behaviour are simply not at a developmental that rewards all types of intelligence.

Anyone trying to replicate foreign models will fail because human behaviour and pricing are their greatest competitors.

Anyone trying to do innovative knowledge/data driven business must thread very carefully and indigenize their offering. In the US the economy and user behaviour are broad enough to reward even highly specialized niche skills.

So we have intelligent people here but such people need to understand how to deploy their intelligence within the local context else it will be too unusual, too pricey or too complex to be used by enough people to make it profitable.

But your point is taken but my point is, smart people need to add one more layer to their smarts. Scale. 200m is not always 200m sometimes 200 m people is just 500. Those who understand will get my point.

Until we understand that the true treasure of every country is the people and not the mineral resources things wont change. That is why oyinbos will always invest in human development above other things. We we prioritise material wealth over our well being.
