It's very unfortunate! This present government is even good in terms policy making that is forcing those idle youths to venture into sustainable businesses. Most of the guys I knew before now were not willing to do business neither were they willing to learn work. They were busy following politicians about because they were making free money from them. All they needed to do then to be popular and relevant in the system was just to join a renounce cult group. One even told me then that federal government work of 80k per month will never move him out of the state, that the only federal job that will make him to leave politics of the state and move out of the state must start from 120k. This is because he was making unsecured cash from politicians. Today, he is driving taxi with his private car.

Well done Emefiele lol, there will be consequences for all these fire brigade economic policies.
Meaning chances of them rescinding their decision.

I can bet you that those investing in agriculture will still be making money in the next two to three years in this country, though the interest rate might be fluctuating.
Borders will be opened once the requirements are made. There are some privilege informations most of us may not get in this faceless platform.
No nation can stop smuggling even in developed countries but the best a country could do to encourage locally made goods is to suppress smuggling. This is the current battle which has been taken to a different stage. It will never be business as usual. No offense please
what requirements?

This could be true, secondary markets are very scarce, not like the old days when much volumes are always available .i was turned down twice now. Please are there any other banks apart from stanbic, that currently offer secondary markets ?, i really need to invest now to secure December expenditures.if you know of any bank, kindly update us

I have been trying to understand what they intend to do for locally made product to be available to the extend that it will suppress smuggling and I am not seeing any. Whatever privileged information that is hidden but does not translate to welfare of the masses is not worth it.

Boarder closure is one of the best and at the same time hardest decision for any Nigerian leader to take and as such should be appluaded. However, with what I am seeing as the after effect; it is may not change anything. Rice smuggling is one of the major reason for the closure. The situation that led people to prefer consumption of foreign rice over local rice is still very much around. It has actually been a while I have bitten stones in my rice untill the boarder closure. Also, the rate at which the price of local rice increased immediately the boarder was closed leave little to be desired of it. Same goes for chicken and other consumables that was hitherto imported.

Yes there may be increase in tariff to deter the importers and the consumer but if you calculate the extra cost of visiting a dentist one may still consider the foreign the option.

Except the boarder remain close for about 4 years and we put deliberate efforts to better our produce before reopening the boarder. If the boarder is opened early next year as being rumoured then we have suffered for nothing.

You guys should face reality with this T.B matter. For now you can try stanbic or Fbn mutual funds... Its still in double digits..11%+...you can also buy zenith bank share for a guaranteed yield of not less than 14% at current price..or you sell at N23 if you don't want dividend...
CBN will be forced to push up rate once they witness a boycott or an investment house finds a way around Ghana tbills...
Getting offer of 8% is just sheer mockery to me...Shalom..

Regarding fgn, bond investment, I invested 5M, in fgn, Sukuk
Bond through TRW, stock brokers I get quarterly payment of 170k, I did this when I suspect rate may be going down about 7 months ago

Sukuk doesn't pay coupons (although called RENT) quarterly. It pays every 6 months or twice in a year. I really don't know what your brokers sold to you. Again, the interest doesn't add up from your principal and rate. Why will they tell you that the holding period for a bond which has 5 years left is 3 years. You need to ask questions.

I must say the investment was a good one going by the current trend of rates moving south and again, it's very hard to buy Sukuk as most holders do not like to sell.

I must not forget to remind that Only a savings bond pays quarterly.

I know some people are curious about the eurobond, I've decided to make myself the sacrificial lamb : grin

Here's what I got back from my account manager.

ROI seems decent enough on a dollar bond.

I really don't know why people will come to treasury bill tread and try to discourage people from doing treasury bill. We love what we do here. People wanting to do business should go to business tread. It's so annoying when people come here trying to discourage us from what we love to do. Many of us don't live in Nigeria. Also business is not for everybody. When I was in Nigeria I wasted over 3 million naira on piggery farm. For now I love treasury bills

@u@united4real, yes was told the coupon payment is every six month, but they an option which pays every quarter too but will loose part of the coupon rate if I go by that, so I opted for that because I use the coupon to offset some other investment I run, Also I was told the minimum holding period with them is 3 years,if am to avoid any penalties so I intend to hold till the end of the bond 2024.

The people are taking advantage of the inefficiency and to think foreign rice are finding their way in Sokoto. The Market is the Laboratory for any economic policies. The border closure should not only be for RICE but everything from health education, electronics etc if we are serious at all. We are a country of self-serving people and built on conspiracy.

Just heard that renowned economist Mr. Henry Boyo has passed on. I remember him for his radical views about the economy. I believe he used to write for Monday editions of The Punch newspaper, the back page. May his soul rest in peace. Amen.
