geotherm: A negative decision has been reached on your friend's study visa application. Her best bet at this point in time is to defer her admission to the next available term and file for an airtight reapplication. It will end in praises |

Sirromey: Hello Sirromey, An SOP isn't a compulsory document but yet could be important. This is so because it provides further clarity of your application to help the VO scrutinize it. So, if your application is free from complexity and not ambigious to understand, then the need for SOP won't be needed. If the case isn't so, include it. Also, if there is an additional information or explanation or clarification regarding your application that needs to be pointed out to the VO, include it. BTW i am a strong advocate for the inclusion of an SOP/LOE especially for average applicants. Good luck! 1 Like |

liveandletlive3: Hello Liveandletlive3, Its good to know you've been engaged with your layed out academic plans. Before deciding to study in Cananda, its advisable to ask oneself one or two questions like: 1. Why do I want to study in Canada Is it for immigration purpose or self-development/career advancement in your CoR. 2. After the completion of this course/program, will the purpose of the certificate/degree be to work Acadmically or Professionally. This aids your decision of selecting the right couse/program for your future reasonableness or career wise. 3. Do I want to pursue a PR If you intend to pursue a PR, going for a 2yr program will be advisable here to qualify you for a 3yr PGWP and save you the time of going through another admission process of securing another 1yr program prior to the completion of the first 1yr. I for one, believe that in which ever program an applicant is going for, as long as a career correlation, advancement, progression and development is properly shown coins with how the VO receives the message/application entails a successful application. In other words, your course type 'would' play a determinant fact on your job prospect and openings, especially if you aim to be cutting bountiful pay chews. For a more demanding course, working 20hrs per week won't be enough and balancing studies with work would be very tedious, though not impossible if you think you can break yourself beyond limits and break the laws of working beyond the stipulated work hours for international students. However, if you can secure a TA/RA or on-campus work, then you can work beyond the 20hrs per week stipulated time without any harm. Good luck! 2 Likes |

geotherm: Hello Geotherm, This might seem discouraging but its best if your friend start re-packaging another application if she still have the intention to study in Canada. Her application has been refused. All the best. |

[quote author=blackfarmer1510 post=84190680]Hello Guys, I arrived Canada on the 1st of September. It has not been easy. If I knew what I know now I would have thought seriously about this school thing. God has been merciful to me. My advice to anyone coming to BC...don't count on the idea that you can work part time to pay your fees or survive here. I live in Vancouver Island and attend VIU. Most of my classmates are Indians and most of them are only interested in getting residence. They get visa easily and can take a loan from their local bank to deposit money for their fees. If you ever get into project groups with them you are on your own. You will do the work yourself because they really don't care about their grades. If you are coming to VIU or anywhere in BC, please come with Nigerian food stuffs like dry pepper and palm oil. Its very expensive. Don't joke o. Carry indomie..it is a life saver. I came with Garri Ijebu and groundnut. I came with pepper soup spice (fish and meat is cheap). Come with umbrella, rain boot and rain coat...it rains like hell in Vancouver and Vancouver Island but its not as cold as the other parts of the freezer (Canada is freaking cold...no bi joke) I brought all the Igbo food stuffs I can carry and forgot income. Please carry coffee and milo. You will thank me for it. I stayed at an airbnb for one week before I found a house. Its not cheap and also because I wanted my family to join me I needed to get a bigger house and used the rent agreement in the visa application for my family. I applied for their visa on the 23rd and they received approval last two weeks. What type of visa did you apply for your spouse please? 3 Likes |

Sumji: You said you secured an admission at the prestigious University of Calgary with 3.53Cgpa for an MSc (thesis-based) program in Chemical and Petroleum Engineering. I know a supervisor is required for this program, and must agree to oversee your research before admission will be granted which is also accompanied with guaranteed funding. I'm very much interested to know how you were able to do the aforementioned. Kindly provide clarity to the house. Thanks 4 Likes |

Greetings Mr Frank! My bad, it was MEng (Course-based), not MSc. That eliminated the part of sourcing for a supervisor. I just applied and waited for the feedback. Kindly see attached. From the onset, I knew I wasn't qualified for most scholarships, so I never targeted Thesis-based programs. It was University of Regina that gave me a tough time, telling me a co-op masters program still required a supervisor. I wrote to countless supervisors without any positive feedback. I just kept calling the admissions office to update them on the fruitless efforts. Eventually, I stopped sourcing for supervisors and just resigned to 'hope'. When the letter came in, it was an unconditional admission, with a supervisor assigned. The first and last school that turned me down was University of Alberta. Maybe if I had considered my CGPA, that first rejection or what statistics say I might not have even bothered applying to Canada or the remaining two schools. This is the cumulative of my last 4 semester results (I dint even know it mattered), I just checked now based on what I've been reading - 6A, 12B, 9C, 1D, 1E. I know I went beyond the scope of what you mentioned,... I like to think it might still matter to someone new to the platform. Frankrobbn1:

I have a friend who was offered admission to Conestoga for May 2020 session, but she is worried the offer letter isn't legit, as she got it about 3 days after applying. Based on this reply here, is she meant to send official copies to Conestoga? She only used the scanned copies in her online application, but they didn’t request for it. Thanks Frankrobbn1: |

Maprince4: SOP means Statement of Purpose. Since you don't need an interview for a SP, a well written SOP states your purpose and intentions to the visa officer on why you want to study in Canada. |
