What has changed much from that? You might be getting 17 billion dollars as export revenues but your revenue body collects less than 10 billion dollars from the economy. Just because you sell much doesn't mean that you collect much. For Kenya,this is so different. We get six billion plus as export revenues but our revenue body is on road to collect 20 billion dollars as total government revenues. Your gdp per capita is nothing but a product of high exports,I just realized that you collect child sums revenue for your own budget.

Precisely. Considering they are not feeding on gold or diamond or aluminum or oil ...the exports is all in vain - economic wise.That is why Africa countries need to really diversify their economies from minerals and build robust domestic economies.

South Africa is better than kenya in nearly all aspect - but there are areas it's doing badly - starting with their basic education - racial divide - xenophobia against fellow africans - and of course an economy that is on a recession or growing 1% in the mid term - but Kenya still has a long way to get to South Africa. I wish I could say the same about Nigeria.

There was a case of phantom FDI's and we now have a case for phantom revenues. Country A might have sold oil worth 5 billion dollars but this sum has to be shared along many parties in the end the tax man of country A gets to only walk away with 2 billion dollars. Export revenues are good when you don't share a lot with foreign investors or parties. If a Kenyan farmer union sold avocados worth let's say 10 million dollars,all of that cash as revenue will benefit Kenyans and Kenyans alone.
