The issue really is perceptions, opinions and decisions.

Perceptions - People read deeper meanings to Nitigriti's post. I did not read much into it until I saw counter-posts. He probably did not attempt to talk down people's hustle.

Opinions - we all have different opinions which every human being need to respect. One can't force people to accept what you believe. Just talk and people that you influence will see you have a point(s).

Decisions - some have decided to do the hustle and make it big through it. If that's their decision, I believe they have their reasons. I don't think anyone has a right to make them feel they are dump and their decision is stupid. People can decide to change their decisions based on situation changes.

NB: this is not directed at anyone in particular but based on my opinion and inference drawn.

I have a friend (not on nairaland) that I introduced to uber driving. Recently, he told me he's stopping this December. I asked why. He told me he needs to pursue his career in Procurement and whatever... That the driving isn't giving him time to chase that dream. This is a man with kids that is using it to survive, and doing well probably. What is wrong with his decision?

No let's look at it this way, we are all striving to make ends meet through whatever legitimate way we can afford to make that happen. Hence, we venture into different trades, starting with the courses we were offered at the university, which might even not be the dream course we wanted to do, but for not wasting time at home, we decided to take on those courses and graduate with whatever results we got, landed a job we could with the result and got paid as much as we could get.

Now, if we decide tomorrow to seek for alternative/side hustle which can complement or supplement what we earn from our current job, do you feel it will be bad to quit the former job and go full-time into the one we see as side hustle?

Like I said, it's an individual thing. You have your dreams and aspirations, others have theirs. Mine might be that I want to become a great I.T professional known globally, the other person might just want to be known as a billionaire, also known globally. So I might see uber as a means to getting financial support to sponsor my professional courses in ICT, whereas someone else will be thinking on how to improve on the services uber offer and use that to develop his own platform.

The sister who is an accountant can have a breakthrough in the clothing line and decide to further her trade in that line of and quit her job if she sees a better prospect and income flow in that line of business, especially if she feels she also has this thing for fashion and designing.

But what if I tell you there are better side hustles? For example, I know a guy who makes $650 every month salary from his side hustle. I can share screenshots of his Payoneer account. He writes book summaries for an European company from the comfort of his house.

Most professional disciplines are very slow to climb. A side hustle can give you greater reward.... in the short term. The side hustle can even give a higher return in the long term, but pedigree matters too. After spending years studying a course and average start up salary is about N50k, (ask lawyers and architects) and my uber, Barbi g salon or car wash gives me higher returns, you think people will ditch their fledgling because of higher returns.

I have an on going program I am running and driving on uber won't stop me from doing that.

With good time management one can plan ways to accommodate other activities which they feel will take them to where they are aiming at.

No employer will fault you for putting uber/bolt as an experience on your CV. They’ll only just overlook it if it’s not relevant to them. There are ways you’d construct the CV narrating the JD.

So if you go for an interview let's say "customer care position" which is one among the most outsourced position in the USA right now and you have experience partnering with Uber for like 4yrs and which is verifiable even with comments from riders you think the white man won't give you the job

We preach diverse sources of income and yet...
I work for a private structured organization then, yet I had time. Site work basically resumes by 9/10am for consultants and ends by 5pm. We go on break with the contractors for one hour. Do you know what I can achieve between 7am and 10am and from 12-1pm or from 5pm upwards towards my certification? Bros no be only civil servants get time.
