Country A might have sold oil worth 5 billion dollars but this sum has to be shared along many parties in the end the tax man of country A gets to only walk away with 2 billion dollars. Assuming I was jealous - how would my jealousness stop South Africa ascend or decline? I only speak about the facts as I know. South Africa economy is sick (growth rate is now btw 0-2% for the medium term - ESKOM is sick -etc etc)- but it's still 3-4 times bigger than Kenya - I think about 15 yrs - around 2035 - if they don't escape their middle-class trap - Kenya and other countries will catch up with them.

Provided that they are no parties that would remit that profit abroad. If multinationals run your cocoa/tea industry then you won't get to have much of those revenues/profits.

Yes - even for the road network and all that - most actions in Kenya happen in that very tiny corridor along the Mombasa-Kampala railway - Kenya because it's mostly semi-arid and arid - have settlment in small corridor - 1) along the coastline 2) around mt kenya including Nairobi and 3) Around Lake Victoria in western Kenya.

if ur country is 87% arid as u purported, then it should have high population density cos most people will live in fertile and coastal area, then u'll have high urban rate, just like Egypt... but no, that's not d case.
