So if you go for an interview let's say "customer care position" which is one among the most outsourced position in the USA right now and you have experience partnering with Uber for like 4yrs and which is verifiable even with comments from riders you think the white man won't give you the job

Black man mentality is so low. Listen, no experience we human encounter in life is a waste. Value ever opportunity that comes your way because it will build you for your tomorrow

Sorry ooo
But most Uber drivers will get f in customer management. That one is not a good analogy. What did you do to that nasty arrogant customer? I gave it back to him hot! I no dey take nonsense!

No be so?

What kind of a person are you?
Someone spending money to develop his/herself is wasting of resources?
Do you think it is every undergraduate that will end up working with their degree? I have rev. Father doing phd, another doing masters? There is never a limit to self development.
Your level of reasoning is myopic sorry to say

You have actually turned this table many times that you've forgotten what your stance was from the beginning

You started by saying it was wrong to talk down on a side hustle that pays... And that who cares about a cv these days(Meaning getting the Benjamins was more important)

You still said you sell clothes as a side hustle, compared to your accounting career that doesn't bring anything tangible

Someone asked you to resign then and you said No, you're in it for self development

So you sell clothes, to develop yourself in Accounting, but when someone was advising drivers here to channel their energy to career growth, you came for their head Abi?

You have said so many different things in different comments

Sounds to me like you are just taking the Nigerian approach of chasing paper qualifications that you will not actually use in the name of self development.

To each his own.

If you know exactly what you're doing, fine.

You that is not chasing the Nigerian approach of paper qualification what have you invented?

My job pays me 200k / month
My side hustle gives me 500k / month

I am not going anywhere in my job, so I am investing in certifications and training. These are not a guarantee of anything, other than hope.

Unless my side hustle is not sustainable, why should I continue to burn my energy on a job, when I can burn it on a side hustle and move to the next level?

What i am inferring is that you can afford to do this because your job is not taking your energy per se.

Sorry sir, but just leave that matter. She alone knows.

Let me tell you something mean. People japaing to Canada etal , the ones that get great jobs when they get in, it’s because of their job experience. Not because of their self development as you call it. A demonstrable ability to add value to your employer.

To each his own. Maybe you’re gunning for Lasg perm sec. I know those ones love a string of letters after their names.

Just be sure you understand WHY you are pursuing your accountancy which is not paying you.

You are explaining all what was said before

If you go to Lagos Island(Oke Arin), and you see those old women who carry loads on their head. If you tell the woman that she can earn a better living instead of carrying this, have you insulted her hustle?

Uber is really good. A life saver. Uber has helped me in the past. But if someone tells me "izzóu,
let's think of an idea that will help us make more money on uber and we will drive less", what is wrong in that?

Do you understand my view now?

Everyone gets your view but always remember to each his own. Live and let live.

LOL you approach everything from your limited perspective. For your failure, there are other successes and for your success, there are other failures.

It’s the same principle yahoo boys use on a mark. You keep pouring money in in the hope you will get your investment. Just sayin.

Anyways what do I know, really?

Elders in the house.. I think I am here at the right time.

I work in a bank, been there for over 3years as an outsourced staff. Salary has never been more than 65k.

I work Mondays to Fridays, leave home 5am get home 7-8pm as the case may be. Sometimes I do weekends(ATM monitoring).

As it stands, there is no assurance of salary review, staff conversion or promotion.

Now an uncle offered me a direct tokunbo 2005 corolla for 2.7m on HP to give him weekly return of 25k or monthly return of 100k till I offset this 2.7m.

Is it advisable to take this car and go into ehailing. Again if I take the car, knowing that I need to give monthly remittances, how do I meet up when the job does not afford me time. Can I meet this monthly target?

Or do I quit my job and go into ehailing full-time while pursuing professional certification or do I just stay on my job and hope things "might" change?

Let me be cruel and blunt here. If she was destined to be some sort of super accountant, she would be in one of the big four firms. She would be in a firm that pays for her training. She would not have the time for any side hustle, particularly a hustle that is not tied to her technical competence.

We are not sure of where she is working presently, neither do we know her plans and future aspirations.

That she is doing her side hustle along side her career doesn't mean she can't still go higher in her career. If she has got it all figured out, who are we to tell her how to run her affairs.

My point is, everyone has got dreams and plans, let's allow them follow their dreams. As for me, am looking for ways to finance my career in ICT.

So, even if na for shit packing the goldmine is located, na dia we dey go, provided it gives me that time to go for my trainings.

Learn the ropes, and take the car. It's a good deal

You spoke of the vacancy that suits you

If I want to get a job in civil engineering, physiotherapy, accountancy or med lab, how will uber driver for 50 years add to it?

I know this comment is not related to the topic, but I just want to answer your question

All the jobs you mentioned here needs good level of tolerance, good inter-personal relationship, good communication skill, high level of concentration and understanding of details etc and same is required as an uber driver who wants to get high ratings.

Always myopic and aggressive in his thoughts and words.
There is no work experience that is useless to any sensible prospective employer, forget the way people behave here,Africa is still in darkness.
"I drove on uber for 5yrs" a sensible employer is already reasoning like "if he was able to do uber for that long, means he can handle our diverse clientele well with their different peculiarities".
"I sold okrika under the bridge for 5 years" and he'll be like "this one has patience and can sit his ass down for long as entailed by this job"

Nobody is looking down on any hustle.. You guys are misunderstanding the whole issue

Nitigriti just posted how he earns $650 monthly. And three people have showed interest in it. If I have the chance to earn such amount from my bed, or without putting in so much energy as I did on uber, will I not take it?

With the caliber of people here and their energy, there are other things they can channel their energy to that will yield better than uber. That was the challenge

I don't see where anyone insulted the job
izzou , main man , always seeing things from the balanced side of things. I lways feel you.

I support oga nitigriti, his views on how you cud use resources from uber to upscale or launch out into a more productive n rewarding enterprise.

Yes,uber gives income but you HV no time again to do other things n frankly speaking, the physical energy is not gonna b there forever.

I contracted some dude to write a program for me like a payment gateway, he quoted som astronomic amounts , last last I called my link to talk to him,

He agreed to do it for #30,000. He didn't spend up to 3 days to finish up.

Now the catch is this: I did not physically meet the guy, all transactions were done offsite. Till date, I don't know how geeky looks like.
He told me he will do everything on his system n send me d codes n all.

It got me thinking, if I get some kind of skills that cud make me earn money wtout physically going out n returning home @ odd hours, I think I will appreciate such.

This is just it... No experience is a waste, no matter how stupid others might think it is. That I am looking for a job in an oil company and I put my experience as a farmer in my CV does not make me less a person.
That I worked as a road side mechanic for 4 years does not mean I can't get a job as an Accountant.
A good employer will always see some good quality skills you must have learnt in those trades.
