Society, Gender roles and Feminism.

Recently, there has been a great number of threads created to address the issue of the above.
Feminism on it's own, is a range of movements and ideologies that share a common goal: to define, establish, and achieve equality of the sexes; political, economic, personal, and social.
A gender roles are a social roles and duties, encompassing a range of behaviors that are generally considered acceptable and appropriate, for people based on their biological sex. This conception is based on feminity and masculinity.
These are fixed sets of cultural and personal ideas on how women and men behave and present themselves. So while females are expected be typically feminine, submissive, and nurturing, men expected to be strong, aggressive, and bold. This brought about the gender stereotypes on;
Personality traits,
Domestic behaviors, and
Occupations.

The above helped to define the responsibilities our forefathers and mothers. The woman was expected to be submissive to her husband's will and raise a home. The girl child as of then was brought up to respect her domestic duties. Since gender was the predominating factor deciding how children were brought up, the males mainly learnt physical skills, important outside the home; farming, palmwine making, carving of mask and other furnitures. The females, to cook, weave, the practice of herbal medicine and so on.
This ideology of the roles both sexes at a young age, resulted in individuals who appreciated and fulfilled the duties society had imposed on them. A man would grow to be either a wrestler, hunter or farmer, etc. It became a thing of pride to excel in any of the above, for a man who was a drunk, would rather gamble, or abadon his responsibilities as a man was looked down on. The ideal male then strived to have a large family (numerous wives and children), and provide fully for each member.

What do you mean by gender roles?

This brought about a seemingly balanced system of hierarchy. But that was then. With the years, we've achieved so much development, that we gradually shed away principles that were once considered the norm.
The patriach system, though has given men a great amount of authourity and respect, has also placed on their shoulders, a high level of responsibility: to be both the provider and protector. This gives women certain priviledges, as she is considered the fair sex. Exception to participate in warfare, stress herself with have a job, and so on.

Which feminism is about equality of the sexes?

Humans are complex creatures, that find it naturally hard to live by strict policies and rules. To be told to do a particular thing always because of our respective gender. Thats where Feminism comes to play. As a movement, its aim isnt to turn the tables (although men to have a tough time, patriarch gives to them a certain amount of freedom that is denied of the female(political, social and economic liberty).
Its primary focus, is to give women the rights to explore several frontiers in their lives, to be allowed the oppurtunity to act differently as opposed to the roles bequeathed on them.
The right to choose a career rather than build a family, to vote, to have her opinions considered, to a good amount of education. To put an end to female Instruments mutilation, the traditional practice of inserting eggs into the vagina of girls to confirm their virginity, the stigmatization of non virgins, female's who drink achohol, smoke and so on.

i am liberal. As long as it doesnt hurt someone else, and it encourages an individual to be the best they can be, then they should go for it.
I fight for women, men and childrens right. No one should be made a victim because of their age, sex, race nor nationality.
But we have to admit, in our society, women get it hot. From virginity, to how we dress and talk, to the career we choose. I believe that if a woman wants a certain path for herself, or indulge in a lifestyle then she should.

Life's to short to play by society's rules.

our progress and destinies somehow is intertwined... there s need for both gender to unite without discord or disdain... the society is a make up of both sexes and can only thrive if we are not divisive in our approach, thoughts and regard for one another... if we are to achieve meaningful progress then we must get rid of feminism and misogyny... we are yet to discover our full potential as a nation and as individuals because we wouldnt take some time to get down from our high horse and do things collectively...the only setbacks we have has a home in our minds... let us purge ourselves from this poison and set ourselves free.
