I think that has a lot to do with the way lampard sets the team up.

And Ole actually does well against the big boyz with fred and co.

for me all that "bossing" in midfield by Chelsea was a defensive strategy similar to van Gaal's Man United and Man City managed to outwit them by applying more brain in-game management. Ederson did nothing in a very sloppy second half by both teams, and City's defense was there for the taking.

Isn't that how they've played many times this season? That was how they played against Liverpool twice this season and they were able to control the midfield.
