And that's why I said you guys are misunderstanding the point, or typing with emotions.

The best team in the league, or in a tournament is whoever comes first, or carries the trophy.

Man Utd has quality players than Leicester, but currently, Leicester is better than them.

In other words, Rodgers have managed to set up Leicester in a way that brings out the best in the team whilst Ole has failed to do same at Manchester United...You have just consented to my stance on the quality of players and role of the manager making the quality obvious...

I never disputed that from the beginning

But then, people feel Ole is the answer grin

Then we go see how far.

Just like how SAF/management felt if Moyes could motivate/inspire united players half as he did everton. Man u will be a piece of cake with him at the helm.

It is hard to just pin our performances to only the coach or only the players.

Naive coach + lazy players = Man u grin

Apples and oranges...Against Chelsea, when Martial was brought on who was taken off and what was our front line like? I am telling you that taking off Jones who shouldn't have started and Pereira off for Lingard and Greenwood as well as pushing our fullbacks forward is the boldest move Ole has made since he was appointed. For a start, I would have started either one of Greenwood or Lingard in place of Jones and I believe we would've been better for it.

Talking about Greenwood, it is funny you're comparing him to Chicharito. You said "might" meaning you're not certain how it would have panned out so, why the Chicharito comparison? Why not use another striker who has gone on to be a success here like Rooney? It's not like Greenwood plays like Chicharito sef.

You need to understand that football has changed, it has move on from the days when the primary responsibility of a defender was to defend. Nowadays, attacks starts from the back, Ederson and Alisson are renowned for thier dangerous long kicks from the back. if a defender's primary responsibility is to defend then Mangala would still be at City.

Your argument is flawed when you said Jones should not have started. You guys are the one who blames the coach for not sticking to winning formation 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2 ,etc but playing 4-2-3-1 which doesnt work. Now he plays his working formation, you are talking about Greenwood. When has Greeneood become Messi?

Against Chelsea, Lidelof was taken off for Martial. Are you saying we should have started with one less defender? It is best to start a match normal, situation might call for the abnotmal. I dont know anytime SAF had to start two or three players at the back. It was always four. Even Carrick had played CB to complete the back three.

Mangala is not even a good tackler to start with.

Our best bet is a 4-3-3 especially against small teams. The 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2 should only apply when we are up against the big team.

Back to the game, playing 3 CBs against Sheffield United is stuff of mediocrity.

Greenwood is not Messi and please don't make my point about him, I said we'd have been better off with Greenwood or Lingard starting in place of Jones and that's my annoyance with Ole. He left our Midfield exposed to the pressure of Sheffield because they simply had more bodies in the centre. If you're okay with such negative lineup against Sheffield United, I am not and never will be...

It's between Martial or Rashford...I choose Martial because he plays more with his head than Rashford who still believes it's all about pace.
Martial plays with his head? The same Martial that is either sulking or playing like nothing is at stake? Someone that will have just one good game out of 10? Are we talking about current form, contributions or perceived potential here?

This Martial we've seen in the last two years not given any serious coach any reason to be in a top team starting eleven. How you manage to sneak him in especially with how critical you're of OGS ehn.
patrickmuf:
Some people are funny sha. In their combined 11 of Leicester and United players, they have Pereira over Wan-Bissaka the big question is why? The same people who say Wan-Bissaka is doing great with us and his primary responsibility is defending are picking Pereira over him because Pereira is very good going forward...I dey laugh.

My combined 11...

....................... .De Gea..............
Pereira....Lindelof.....Maguire.......Chiwell
.................... .......Ndidi...........................
....... ...Maddison............Pogba.......
...... James......... Vardy......... Martial........

On the bench...
Kasper, Wan-Bissaka, Soyuncu, Shaw, McSauce, Tielemans, Rashford, Greenwood.

In the starting 11, we have 6 players against 5 for them. You might argue why I choose Lindelof over Evans but the truth is with Ndidi in midfield, any CB will look good.

In midfield, you might even choose to play McTominay/Tielemans over Maddison since Pogba is starting.
I can't see where you mentioned that it's either Rashford or Martial here

I had responded earlier that it was a choice between the both of them and quite honestly, I have personal preferences for Martial even though Rashford can do just as well there.

Obviously, the best team is the team with the best quality. However quality is not the only ingredient that determines success. Motivation and determination also counts.

United currently has a more quality squad than Leicester but the later are better motivated and are stronger mentally.

G. Neville was complaining bitterly about Utd’s senior players for their horrid performance against Sheffield the other day. he was very disappointed about their movement. The forward 3 didn’t force any errors against Sheffield.

’s not that they can’t score goals, it’s just that they seem disinterested in creating chances and scoring goa

If these players always puts in the hard work, make runs and disorganize defenses, the goals will come. For United, the problem is more about motivation and having the winning mentality, not just quality.

For the coach crew it’s the reverse. The quality is doubtful but the willingness to win is there.

So you think Ole did not read the way Shefield United play before coming up with that formation? And you know every team has assistant coaches who give reports about opposition teams, there are many statistics at the disposal of the management team. Your own thinking might just be 20% of what they had to consider to draw a formation and match tactics.

I agree with your write up.

What factors help motivate a player or team?

As players can't they motivate themselves so that the quality they claim to possess will come to the fore.

This comparison might not be right but I remember when we dey play set just for street bragging rights, person go nearly wan kill himself for field, but these ones that are paid armed robber wages and supposedly have quality can't motivate themselves enough. They are waiting for OGS to motivate them and inject winning mentality into their brains and legs with syringe.

According to whoscored rating, Chris Smalling is among currently the best playesr in Serie A. Best X1

Smalling has 2 goals, 1 Assist, from 9 league games.
If he were in United, he would be said to be the most useless defender in the top four teams. He will be seen to be highly uncoordinated, panic under pressure and the reason the forwards don't get supply with his inaccurate passing from the rare.

If I were him, I would not even come back. Jones should do same. These guys held theirs under SAF in absense of Vidic and Ferdinand. They still did a job for Gaal.

To be fair, Jones was supposed to be sold during the last TW, but no one came for him. Even smalling sef was supposed to be sold but the offers didn't come. It was only Roma that came to try their luck with a loan deal, and they seem to have hit the jackpot with his good performances

Exactly.

It’s no coincidence that the top earners are easily injured and they are the ones not putting in a shift.

And the stupidd board have been rewarding mediocrity with higher pays. Just look at Shaw, Rasjford and Martial.

Abeg make this guy start Levit and Garner for midfield with a forward 4 containing Gomes, Chong and Greenwood.

At least let dem come in early 2nd half if all of them no go start.

As a second choice LB, Young should start and captain the young boys.
