You shouldn't engage in fantasies. What "Helicopter carrying capable ship"... The SD3 is nothing outside a Mid Range Patrol Vessel.

We have dockyards that can build up to that size. Technology wise/Skill wise, Nope. I don't think the ToT of the P18n materialized.

What's not a fantasy? That the SDB will carry helo onboard? I should say its A LIE then.

NAF TO PARTNER CROSS RIVER STATE GOVERNMENT FOR UNIFORMS, COMBAT RATION PRODUCTION

In another move to further boost self-reliance in the local production of uniforms and other items, including combat rations, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has perfected plans to enter into partnership with the Cross River State Government. The objective is to deliberately reduce dependence on foreign vendors for its operational and logistics needs, while consciously enhancing the fortunes of local industries through increased patronage. This was made known today, 26 November 2019, when the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, visited some Cross River State owned Companies, including the State Garment Factory and other Agro-Allied Companies.

The visit began with a courtesy call on the Executive Governor of the State, Professor Ben Ayade, who, while welcoming the CAS to the State, thanked him profoundly for his unwavering commitment towards patronizing made-in-Nigeria products. He said he was extremely impressed with the CAS’ determination to support local industrial concerns in line with the current policy thrust of the Federal Government (FG), noting that it was obviously a product of his clear understanding of the nexus between security and development, being an erudite strategic thinker. He said the Cross River State (CRS) Garment Factory was established based on the realization of the economic and social benefits that would accrue in terms of jobs and wealth creation within the extended value chain.

Governor Ayade, while citing the example of Bangladesh, which has a population of about 162 Million that is about 85 percent dependent on its garment industry, stated that the optimization of the Cotton, Textile and Garments (CTG) Sector in Nigeria would create a considerable number of jobs that would significantly reduce unemployment whilst also earning the Nation much-needed foreign exchange. He said it was noteworthy and gratifying that the CAS was the first to visit the State’s Garment Factory, even though it has its own, albeit smaller, garment making facility in Kaduna. He noted that, in order to ensure the uniforms that would be made for the NAF meet the required standards, some of the NAF’s tailors who had earlier been trained by the Service in China could be detailed to mentor the CRS Garment Factory tailors. He noted, furthermore, that some tailors would also be sent for training in various areas of specialty in China, India and Bangladesh to further ensure high quality products. Professor Ayade equally thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for instituting the policy on patronage of the local CTG Sector, which he said would no doubt be beneficial to Nigeria and Nigerians.

Earlier in his remarks, Air Marshal Abubakar said he was highly honoured to have been invited to witness what the Cross River State Government had achieved in terms of developing Agro-Allied industries to enhance the socio-economic well-being of the State and its people. He emphasized that security was about development, stating that the more development that was realized in a particular area, the less the likelihood for the people to be mobilized for violence and criminality. The CAS also observed that countries faced with security challenges must make conscious efforts to source for home-grown solutions to such challenges, whether they be technological or otherwise. He noted that it was in furtherance of this that the NAF had continued to seek for areas of partnership and collaboration with the private sector including companies such as the Ibeto Group in Nnewi and the Zaria Industries Limited in Zaria, among others, to source for ways of meeting its requirements locally. He said the visit to the CRS Garment Factory was another of such initiatives pursuant to the FG’s directives to patronize the Nigerian CTG Sector.

After being conducted on a guided tour of the various Companies and especially the Garment Factory by the Governor, the CAS, who was visibly impressed, stated his willingness to immediately patronize the Company to provide uniforms for some of the 10,000 additional personnel that had been recruited into the Service in the past 4 years. “What is happening here is excellent and amazing. We will take immediate action to ensure that the orders start rolling out as soon as possible”, he said.

While in Calabar, the CAS, who was accompanied on the visit by some Principal Staff Officers from Headquarters NAF, received briefings from the Air Officer Commanding Mobility Command, Air Vice Marshal Peter Uzezi, as well as the Commander 305 Special Mobility Group (305 SMG), Group Captain Abraham Sule. He also held an interactive session with personnel of the 305 SMG, where he addressed critical administrative and welfare issues, while charging them to remain absolutely loyal and committed to the performance of their constitutional roles. The CAS and his entourage have since returned to Abuja.

SELF-RELIANCE: NAF TO PARTNER ZARIA INDUSTRIES LIMITED FOR LOCAL PRODUCTION OF TENTS, RELATED ITEMS

In furtherance of its determination to ensure full compliance with the Federal Government’s directives to patronize the Nigerian Cotton, Textile and Garment (CTG) Industry Sector for its needs, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is set to partner with the Zaria Industries Limited (ZIL) for the local production of tents and other associated items. This was revealed today, 23 November 2019, when the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, undertook an assessment visit to the Company’s factory complex in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Speaking during the visit, the CAS, who was accompanied by other senior officers from Headquarters NAF, as well as the Air Officer Commanding Air Training Command Kaduna, stated that the NAF has always been at the forefront of looking inwards to ensure local content, as much as practicable, in meeting its operational and logistics needs. The objective, he said, was to reduce dependence on goods and services from abroad, with attendant socio-economic multiplier effects in terms of foreign exchange savings and job creation as well as positive impact on national security.

Air Marshal Abubakar observed that, in line with the drive of the President Muhammadu Buhari Administration for enhanced local content, he had also recently led a team of senior officers on a visit to the Ibeto Group Factory Complex in Nnewi to explore other areas of further collaboration beyond the production of aircraft batteries. He noted that a similar visit was also being planned to some industries in Calabar, the Cross River State Capital, in the coming days. The CAS emphasized that the NAF's quest for collaborative ventures with local industries was premised on the fact that nations at war require the full participation and support of the private sector in terms of their knowledge, skills and value-added products in order to be successful. He noted that ZIL was one of such industries whose products and services were important to NAF operations, especially for its Quick Response Groups (QRGs) and Quick Response Wings (QRWs).

Fielding questions from journalists after the guided tour of the factory, which included inspection of the integrated production lines for Spinning, Weaving, Dyeing, Water Repellency and Water Proofing as well as visits to the Sewing, Metal Fabrication and Quality Control/Testing Sections, the CAS said he was excited with the potential value that ZIL products could add to the operations of the NAF. He noted that, having been earlier impressed with the quality of the Company’s products, he had embarked on this personal assessment, along with a high-level delegation that could take decisions and initiate immediate action for the acquisition of the required materials for the NAF. Air Marshal Abubakar concluded by saying that the NAF would continue to encourage and support reputable local industries like ZIL in line with Mr President’s directives.

Earlier in his remarks, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of ZIL, Engineer (Engr) Ilyas Saleh, while welcoming the CAS, stated that the Company was established in 1975 as the first, and still the only major local manufacturer of tarpaulin materials used in the construction of tents, canopies, camp beds and truck covers in Nigeria and West Africa. He noted, however, that despite its installed capacity to produce over 2 million square metres of 100 percent cotton-canvas tarpaulin fabrics as well as several metric tons of cotton yarn and many types of tents and camp beds, the company had been operating sub-optimally due to challenges such as poor power supply, high cost of raw materials and consumables as well as low patronage. He however expressed appreciation that the policies of the current Federal Government (FG) Administration towards alleviating the challenges of the CTG Sector had begun to yield positive dividends in revamping the fortunes of the company with such patronage as that of the NAF. While thanking the CAS for the support in realizing the FG’s directives, he pledged ZIL’s commitment to manufacturing high grade tarpaulin products to meet the NAF’s expectations in terms of cost and quality.

Before returning to Abuja, the CAS and members of his entourage, made a stopover at the 271 NAF Detachment Birnin Gwari, where he inspected ongoing projects and interacted with troops. The CAS, while assuring the troops of the Government’s unwavering commitment to providing for their operational and welfare needs, urged them to remain resolute in the discharge of their task of ensuring the security of the lives and properties of Nigerians within their Area of Responsibility.

France has now spent 6 years fighting insurgency in Mali.

They have 4,000 soldiers in that country. They are also supported by America, Belgium, UK, Finland, Sweden, Canada.

Our Nigeria army is trying. Even though they used to fvck up sometimes too, but they have achieved a lot.

Fighting insurgency is not easy.

I have more fun reading than posting, but just a few lines here.

Lets not judge wrongly, France is not fighting insurgency on France's territory where full power of France's armed forces can be deployed in one full blow to wipe out the type of malnourished Boko Haram Nigeria is struggling 10 years to push out of our lands. NA is fighting at home with average of 100,000 Nigerian soldiers. Mali is much bigger than Nigeria, so how can 4,000 French troops cover such huge land? If France at home in France launches it's full air force helicopter gunships and jets, full army, all special forces, some 300 Leclerc tanks, 900 IFVs, 2,000 MILAN anti-vehicle guided missiles on rusty Toyota riding Boko Haram type of poorly armed insurgents, BHT will either run away to another country or die fighting.

Nigeria's insecurity today is caused by Nigerian army military rule 30 years long, they started massive corruption-treasury looting, economic mismanagement, waste of national resources, bad weapons procurement habits, etc. They wrecked Niger Delta with total marginalization, poverty and ecological degradation till the people started Delta Militancy to set a bad example for others that the only way to get your right from FGN to eat daily bread, is to start insurgency strong enough to hold the army to stalemate. NA ruined us in the first place so they should play a role to fix this our Nigeria they broke.

God bless all we Nigerians, both civilians and uniformed forces.

I completely disagree with you.

France is a world power, and has one of the largest armies in NATO.

With regards specifically to Mali, let us look at the situation on the ground.

Military operations in Mali does not cover all of Mali. The insurgency in Mali is completely in the North of Mali.

Mali is also a very rural country, with large open, uninhabited areas where military operations are carried out.

French military assets in Africa include permanent military bases Air Force and Army bases in Niger, Drones and Mirage-2000D fighter jets fly from there.

Another permanent military base in Chad, Rafael fighter jets and army men are based there.

Another permanent military base in Ivory Coast, French Foreign legionaries are based there.

A Forward operating base in Senegal, another Forward Operating base in Cameron.

Access to military ports in Benin republic

Then there are the 4,000 men based in Mali.

So in actual fact, France has a larger military presence in west-africa, than Nigeria has in Nigeria.

The highest amount of soldiers we have deployed in the Northeast is 20,000 soldiers.

France has 4,000 with the help of Chadian soldiers, Belgium, UK, Finland, Sweden, and a MINUSMA force which also has Nigerian soldiers, Senegalese soldiers etc.

So in actual fact, France receives more help than Nigeria, plus a well developed defence industry and modern equipment.

Yet France has been fighting for 6 years in Mali.

Let that sink in.

I know our own is not good in Nigeria, but a well equipped force with plenty support and bases cannot defeat slippers wearing terrorists.

So yes, Nigerian soldiers are trying.

What? You disagree completely with the fact that 30 years of bad and corrupt military rule by Nigerian Army ruined Nigeria till massive insurgency became a new way people tell goverment they want something?

Low levels like lance corporals, privates etc among Nigerian soldiers are trying as they are our sacrificial lambs, but top leadership is not doing well with faulty procurement and lack of willingness to modernize our obsolete army. France hardly ever lost any FOB, unlike Nigeria that lost army bases like 100 times to BHT ISWAP.

France should devote her super power military might to rescue Mali? Why? Mali is France or Africa is Europe? Do you know the hundreds of billions of dollars it will cost the economy of France to deploy a large army far from home? Afghanistan and Iraq large scale deployments almost bankrupted American economy now in heavy debt.

Those 4,000 French troops are not fighting with aim of defeating insurgency in Mali, they are there to protect French uranium and gold mining businesses as well as keep loyal Mali goverment loyal to France forever.

France actually wants to maintain these volatile situations where Mali will forever need French troops helping Mali, so that modern day colonialism can last forever. French man no care if northern half of Mali has some Tuareg rebels, it's not Frenchman's fatherland. All they wish to do is send a minimum size small Brigade level force enough to protect and keep Malian uranium and gold flowing into France's economy forever. If France really wants to wipe out Mali rebels, they won't send only 4,000 men without a single Leclerc tank, to join a few uncommitted peace keepers who don't want to die in Mali for we Black men's sake, they just want deployment salaries from UN. Some peace keeping European countries in Mali went there to use Mali deployment to meet up required track record for application to win permanent seat at UN almighty Security Council, no foreign nation is there to die for Mali by trying to wipe out battle hardened rebels for 'Black Africans who cannot manage their country well' as they call us.

Nigerian soldiers have their own native homeland to die for if need be. Lt. Gen. Buratai COAS is son of the soil of Borno, but French Army chief of staff is not a son of Mali, he won't risk much to free Mali, his Brigade size small army is there only to colonize for mineral resources not to make Mali a better nation.

I repeat, 30 years of bad and corrupt military rule by Nigerian Army created all today's insecurity. You can disagree with your own life history if you wish, na you sabi o. grin

PRESS RELEASE*

*MORE BOKO HARAM/ISWAP ELEMENTS FALL AS NIGERIAN ARMY TROOPS’ INTENSIFY THEIR ONSLAUGHT AGAINST CRIMINAL ELEMENTS NATIONWIDE*

As troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE continue to exert their superiority against remnants of Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province elements, troops of 121 Battalion deployed at Pulka in Gwoza LGA of Borno State in conjunction with elements of Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) today the 26 November 2019 conducted a fighting patrol along the Mararaba Junction – Kirawa road in the same LGA. During the patrol, troops came in contact with some Boko Haram logistics elements at Sabon Gari, a known Boko Haram criminals’ crossing point into Sambisa Forest. Troops instinctively responded and neutralized 3 of the Boko Haram criminals’ logistics couriers while others escaped into the forest. Items captured in the aftermath of the encounter include 81 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, food items and 7 bicycles belonging to the criminals.

In another display of courage, bravery and professionalism, troops of 29 Task Force Brigade of Operation LAFIYA DOLE deployed at Borgozo in Kaga LGA of Borno State overwhelmed some marauding Boko Haram criminals. The criminal Boko Haram elements who had dared the lethality of the troops with an uncoordinated attack on the troops’ location on 21 November 2019 were overwhelmed by own troops. At the end of the brief encounter, 3 Boko Haram criminals were neutralised while several others escaped with gunshot wounds as evidenced by the traces of blood discovered along their escape route. Additionally, one AK 47 Rifle, 7 AK 47 Rifle magazines, 86 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, 300 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 3 camel bags and one black Boko Haram flag were recovered by the troops in the aftermath of the encounter.

Regrettably, one officer and 2 soldiers were wounded in action. The wounded personnel are in stable condition and responding to treatment in a military medical facility.

In a similar encounter, troops of 21 Special Armoured Brigade deployed at Banki Junction in Bama LGA, Borno State while responding to a Boko Haram attempted attack on their location on 21 November 2019, neutralized one Boko Haram criminal and captured 2 AK 47 Rifles and 60 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.

Relatedly, on 22 November 2019, troops of 25 Task Force Brigade deployed at Damboa in Damboa LGA of Borno State swiftly responded to a distress call by some residents of Grijan Village along Damboa - Chibok road. The Boko Haram criminals who were sighted massing up to attack the Village were pursued by troops. During the pursuit, 2 Boko Haram criminals were neutralized and 4 AK 47 Rifle magazines, 32 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, one bandolier, one military jungle hat and one locally made bomb were captured from the insurgents.

Similarly, on 22 November 2019, troops of 26 Task Force Brigade deployed at Pulka in Bama LGA of Borno State sprung a successful ambush at a known Boko Haram criminals’ crossing point along Banki Junction - Pulka road. During the ambush, 3 Boko Haram criminals believed to be logistics suppliers were neutralised while conveying various food items to the desperate insurgents in Sambisa Forest.

In yet another development, troops of 152 Battalion deployed at Firgi in Bama LGA of Borno State arrested a suspected Boko Haram member at a Check Point. The suspect was apprehended in possession of one empty case of Anti-Aircraft Gun ammunition (used for making suicide vest), one tap head and some electronic devices for making explosive devices.

Additionally, on 22 November 2019, following reliable information from well-meaning Nigerians, troops of 25 Task Force Brigade arrested a high profile Boko Haram criminal informant and logistics supplier, Bulama Saleh at Shuwari Village. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect recently supplied cows to Boko Haram insurgents. Also, on 23 November 2019, troops of 27 Task Force Brigade while on a Stop and Search Operation at Balbaya Village in Bayo LGA of Borno State arrested 4 Boko Haram criminals’ fuel suppliers conveying 90 jerricans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to Tetteba, a border town in Yobe State. Preliminary investigation also revealed that the suspects, Ibrahim Sale Jibrin, Haruna Mallam, Shuaibu Muktar and Salisu regularly supply fuel to Boko Haram criminals hibernating around Gorgore Camp.

Mindful of the possible spike in criminalities during the yuletide season, troops of Nigerian Army have stepped up operations against criminal elements across other States of the nation through the reenergized Operation MESA, Exercises ATILOGWU UDO I, AYEM AKPATUMA II, and CROCODILE SMILE IV to further strangulate and deny criminals elements freedom of action. Multiple successes have been recorded. In the South-East Region, Operation ATILOGWU UDO I continue to smash criminal syndicates across the region. Specifically, on 17 November 2019, troops Uwani LGA of Enugu State responded swiftly to a distress call regarding a car snatching incidence at Barracks Road, Nsukka. After a hot chase, the gallant troops recovered the snatched Mercedes Benz vehicle with Registration Number KADUNA BF 930 DKA and arrested the suspect, one Ona Ikechukwu. Keys of different car models and assorted charms were also recovered from the suspect. In a related incidence, on 19 November 2019 troops of 24 Survey Engineer Regiment acting on credible ùùinformation successfully smashed an armed robbery syndicate terrorizing Ezza South LGA of Ebonyi State. The arrested suspects are Success George, Noble Mbam, Emeka Ugo, Aja Anayochukwu and Imeze Joseph (buyer of stolen goods). Additionally, one stolen Plasma Television was recovered from the suspects. Also, on 20 November 2019, troops of 302 Artillery Regiment and 14 Field Engineer Regiment in conjunction with other security agencies busted a notorious criminal gang at Nnewi Town in Nnewi North LGA of Anambra State. During the sting operation, 20 suspected criminals were arrested including one Nwosu Izuchukwu, a notorious Methamphetamine drug dealer.

Relatedly, on 17 Novem ber 2019, troops of 144 Battalion, acting on credible information, arrested a notorious car snatcher, one Iyaba Wilfred while attempting to steal a Toyota Camry saloon car during a Church Service at Living Word Ministries Church in Aba South LGA of Abia State. Items found on the suspect include a master key and other tools for gaining access to vehicles. Furthermore, on 17 November 2019, troops of Sector 2, received information about an on-going armed robbery operation at Ukpokeri Village in Isialangwa North LGA of Abia State. Subsequently, the troops robustly mobilized to the scene and arrested one of the robbery suspects, Chinecherem Abnegwu. The suspect confessed that he and one Chisom (now at large) ha been in the heinous act for 2 years.

In another development, on 22 November 2019, troops of Sector 5, in conjunction with other security agencies conducted a successful joint patrol and arrested 4 members of a notorious kidnap gang at Ihuonyia, Ezeagu LGA of Enugu State. What? You disagree completely with the fact that 30 years of bad and corrupt military rule by Nigerian Army ruined Nigeria till massive insurgency became a new way people tell goverment they want something?

Low levels like lance corporal among Nigerian soldiers are trying but top leadership is not doing well with faulty procurement and lack of willingness to modernize our obsolete army. France has hardly ever lost an FOB, unlike Nigeria that lost army bases like 100 times.

France actually wants to maintain these volatile situations where Mali will forever need French troops helping Making so modern day colonialism can last forever. French man no care if half of Mali has some Tuareg rebels, it's not Frenchman's fatherland. All they wish to do is send a minimum size small brigade level force enough to keep Malian uranium and gold flowing into France's economy forever. If France really wants to wipe out Mali rebels, they won't send only 4,000 men without a single Leclerc tank, to join a few uncommitted peace keepers who don't want to die in Mali for black man's sake, just want deployment salaries from UN. Some of the peace keeping European countries in Mali went there to use Mali deployment to meet up required track record for application for permanent seat at UN almighty security council, no foreign nation is there to die for Mali by trying to wipe out battle hardened rebels for 'black Africans who cannot manage their country well' as they call us.

Nigerian soldiers have their own native homeland to die for if need be. Lt. Gen. Buratai COAS is son of the soil of Borno, but French Army chief of staff is not a son of Mali, he won't risk much to free Mali, his army is there to colonize for mineral resources not to make Mali a better nation.

I repeat, 30 years of bad and corrupt military rule by Nigerian Army created all today's insecurity. You can disagree with your own life history if you wish, na you sabi o. grin

I am highly impressed with your analysis.

D

Sir, your entire post is based off assumptions.

You have not stated any fact to dispute the points in my post.

Why would France deploy Leclerc tanks to combat insurgents in Mali?

This point makes no sense.

France has VBCI armed with 30mm cannon deployed in Mali

France has ERC-90 Sagie armed with a 90mm gun deployed in Mali

France has AMX-10 armed with a 105 cannon deployed in Mali.

France has Tiger helicopter for attack and reconnaissance deployed in Mali

France has Gazelle Helicopters armed with 50.cal hmg deployed in Mali

France has Rafael fighter jets deployed

France has Mirage 2000D deployed in Mali

France has Reaper armed UCAV deployed in Mali

France has Caesar 155 mm artillery deployed in Mali.

Why do you think the Leclerc Tank would make any difference?

You need to make comments based on facts, you're making posts on emotions.

With all these France has been in Mali for 6 years

I completely disagree with you.

France is a world power, and has one of the largest armies in NATO.

With regards specifically to Mali, let us look at the situation on the ground.

Military operations in Mali does not cover all of Mali. The insurgency in Mali is completely in the North of Mali. .
why must almost every unrest and insurgency be domiciled in d northern part of a country? undecided

Barely 24hrs ago, another bomb blasted in Northern Afghanistan, unrest inside unrest. grin it was northern syria before.

Why? undecided
