Good morning everyone. My parents got denied this morning at Abuja for trying to come for my graduationthis December. It really saddens my heart. They are both in thier late 50s. My dad is retired but have an agricultural business while my mom is still in teaching service . They both make 300k and 180k respectively. They were going to stay at a hotel close to my apt. Their transcript goes like this .

Vo: what’s your purpose of visit?
Ans : we are going to attend our son’s graduation

Ans: Just two , one is in a university here in Nigeria while our first is graduating

Vo : Who sponsoring the trip ?

That’s was the end , they got a green paper .

My question is , what might have been wrong with the application? Also , I am thinking my mom alone should reapply probably they got denied because dad was retired ..

I applied 2 weeks after my first denial. I am thinking of giving it a third shot in Nigeria again (This time to take one of the standardized exams required for my graduation,it can only be taken in the USA and to also conclude my rotations so I can graduate with my mates in April).On the other hand, I am thinking of applying from the caribbean Island where my school is.However, I have heard different things:

1. How can i proof home ties to that island, wouldnt it make more sense to show home ties to your country of origin
2. The bank statements of my parents would be from Nigeria and Europe, isnt it easier for the consul in nigeria to verify nigerian bank statements rather than a third party country.
3.I had a resident permit for the caribbean island from 2015-late 2017 but since i started rotations and never had to return to the island,i didnt bother renewing it.Now I m planning of applying for a fresh resident permit,wouldnt they think its so early applying for a visa after getting a permit

Very unfortunate situation but if I am in your shoes, I will not apply again from Nigeria, l will find my way back to the Reggae island ( Carribean island were you did your medical school, since you were a former resident of the island, it might be pretty easy for you to qualify for another residence permits.

Once you arrive back to the island, find out more from an attorney to assist you re- apply for a residence permits, once you get the permits, you can give the US embassy another shot from there.

However, I know the VO in the Reggae island will have access to your file and the minutes on them by the VO's in Nigeria, but who knows motherluck might be with you if you are able to re-explain yourself again to another VO not in Nigeria because Nigeria seems to be on the black radar screen of VO's of recent based on several factors in the past and they are using koboko laden with chilly pepper to flog people as they like.

Lastly, your bank statements ( both Nigeria and Europe) will not be a big issue with them, they have ways of knowing / finding out if they suspect dagbo on any bank statement ( highest will be administrative review to enable them conduct further forensic investigations on both bank accounts) Nawao to be called a Nigerian in 2019 seems to be a plague

Thanks a lot. Yea the school handles the residence permit, I am only worried cos i dont know if applying for a US visa right after getting the residence permit would count against me.

l don't think so, afterall, the purpose of the residence permits is to qualify you to apply for the visa (because you are not in Nigeria) , not just the US but other countries as well have similar or same conditions, let another VO not on Nigerian soil interview you, you have few weeks to be done with your rotations in the US and your profile doesn’t sounds like someone trying to vamoose ( even though the US embassy pre- classify all visa applicants from Nigeria as people who have the intent to run from(>>>>> Buhari / APC / Hunger/ insecurity / unemployment etc ).

You seems not to understand the reason why you were denied twice! you applied for your first visa saying you were going to visit an uncle or so (I don't remember the story,but it has to do with family) correct? Then you proceeded and used that issued visa for your clinical rotation! That is an abuse of visa,The lady from your first interview clearly told you this is why she's denying you!

I visited the relative I wanted to.You dont seem to understand what I am saying.I visited my relative.My rotations only came up nine months after that, since I already had a valid visa which is required for my rotations,why would I have applied for another one.You are making assumptions now.

Are you applying from Korea? Purpose of your trip doesn't have to be one or the other, it can be both: to visit your sister and attend a conference. There are no requirements from your host; however, you will be asked questions about your host/sister.
