magicminister: You have said it all bro..I even heard from a Nigerian Nurse that a consultant slapped her during ward rounds, try that in a civilized society you are toast..That Nurse is now in UK making minimum £1000 a week as an agency staff.. The environment in Nigeria and people's attitude towards Nursing staff in Nigeria have made some of them hardened and to an extent vile, like you rightly said once they leave the shores of Nigeria they are respected for there knowledge and expertise.. Am sure there are bad nurses just as you have bad people in all works of life.. Some people even see them as sex objects ( one clown above me even called 90% of them olosho), I wonder where and when he conducted such studies) Am not sure what they do in Nigeria, but in westernised countries Nursing goes beyond popping pills and injections.. I have encountered alot of them in UK, and I know for sure I won't be able to look after my patients without them.. 4 Likes |

Nigerian nurses are less paid and more intense work among their medical counterparts, disrespected by patients and relations and also other medical disciplines, they are hardworking but intense pressure at work make s them rude most times. But they are the best in care giving 1 Like |

I have never had a bad experience with a nurse but most of the unethical behaviors of nurses happen at government-owned hospitals. It is very rare to see such in a private hospital. |

Would never forget a nurse in my uncles clinic that treated me when i was in secondary school. came home for holiday. and escorted my cousins to plait their hair. was playing around and our table tennis egg entered a dumping site, went there to pick it, came back and noticed my leg was shaking. something had pierced my leg and there was a lot of blood. The woman plaiting my cousins hair son, was pouting water and things began worse. called his father and he gave me first aid, before I was rushed to my uncles clinic. got there and I was to be stitched up, but my uncle wasn't around so the head of the nurse during that shift had to do the stitching. madam just started stitching my leg without no painkiller, mehn it was so painful I almost removed her wig from her head. cos i remembered when my uncle stitched my mouth some time ago, I didn't feel any pain. the pain was so intense, her fixed weavon was almost out of her head. another time I had chronic ulcer and I was admitted, when I passed out, met my self in the hospital and wanted to take injection only for 5 nurses coming inside. 4 each holding either of my leg and my hand, while the 5th to give me 3 injection, I almost thought they wanted to kill me, I had to ask what's happening, when they told me I laughed and told them to calm down, stood up, dragged my trouser and boxers down a bit and took the injection 2 Likes |

VillagePipu:You can't blame nurses for ur problems. Nurses are professionals who must be respected by all, including Doctors and government. They are not inferior to anybody, including you. If nurses fight Doctors, then the Dr may have undermine or trampled on their rights,so is the same as government. See,the are professional as the Dr, the have their training differently to become Dr/nurses. They have their various dependent, independent and interdependent roles to play in their primary areas of practice. O boy,not everyone is an illiterate not to understand division of labour in the health sector. 1 Like |

dalongjnr: So, that's why they fight patients too? Cos patients trample on their rights? They have started fighting auxiliary nurses too (quacks). Is enforcement part of their job description? Nurses in government hospitals are very troublesome and they tend to misbehave until they meet someone who is strong enough to whip them into line. That's when they behave. |

Nurses hmmm.... General Hospital Nurses.... Hmmm... I went to collect my medical fitness test for NYSC at one general hospital in Lagos. As I was about leaving the common room, one nurse just came out. She carried a file and was shouted this... "Ehn...Patient 111 Gonorrhea, where are you? The doctor will see you now..."" " Patient 121 HIV Positive, follow me for your urine test" Na so two girls just stand up... One enter doctor office, the other come follow the nurse. Nigerian Nurses are wicked sha... Nothing is confidential in their mouth... It is well.... Anyways I'm selling lands at Ibeju Lekki, Ota, Ikorodu... 3 Likes 1 Share |
