These are all gibberish. Only an idiot will put his money there.

Banks don't talk about their fix deposit rate online cos they don't want people to advice their potential customers to go for bond/tbills instead.

This scenario played out in 2007/2008 when there was too much money in the hands of citizens not knowing what to do. All of a sudden the entire airwaves every now and then was adverts of Initial Public Offerings of different commodities. While the foolish (including me) were front loading their money into and open ended pipe in the name of buying into an IPO and admiring the certificates, the financial crooks were at the back end of the pipe off loading the money in the name of trading (by hyping and manipulating share prices). Recession was the result. Sometimes i wished all my capital then were even in just a savings account without interest. The loss was too much. AFter then, i discovered Government Securities.

One thing to note is this. Money is like energy. For everyone that lost money, some other person gained it. The sad part is, 100 people can loose money to 1 person. The reverse is never the case. With the latest trend, there is likely going to be another experience of too much money and myriads of scammers. Even when a legit investment come your way, there is likelihood of funds over saturation which makes an investment company become obsessed. Only those with track records will be able to hold investors funds in keeping with promises.

I have series of BONDs and TBs maturing From February 2020 and Bonds coupons going on with the next one in December.

None of those moneys will be used for any other investment other than what i am used to. I will rather keep them trekking (short TBs or MMF) and wait for the prime time or nothing.

Very apt! sense will not kill you

Anyway, it depends on how you looked at it the same stock market where i loose my first million an hard earned money for that matter also made me millions i used for TB and will make me my first $ 1m with patience i grow the money yearly. I went back to my drawing board do my own serious research and reading then change my investment strategy and also i dont allow broker to tell me stock to buy again i trade online myself so am in control of my portfolio. i have tabulated my target on an excel in my laptop and this guide my investment objective and the strategies i can use to achieve my target. there is still plenty of monies to be made in the economy and the most important thing for me is that the money must be working for me from january to december. I love risk taking and i will never leave stock exchange no matter the mago mago they do there. Know your entry period and exit time very important.

Renting is wiser for most people. Don't buy a house unless:

1. Mortgage is < 8%.
2. You can pay cash.
3. You plan to live in it for 10 years.
4. You need the psychological comfort of home ownership.

Rental/investment property is great. Home ownership is mostly a bad investment. I'll share the math on home ownership sometime next week. The home you live in is your worst investment. For some of us, it's not even an investment. Don't buy the hype, do the math. Home purchase for living is a bad investment. Rental property is a great investment.

Do the math.

An average property in Lagos is N40m.

Treasury bill rate is about 12%. Your N40m will yield N4.8m a year.

You can rent a good home for N1.5m and still have N3.3m left over.

Your house is costing you N3.3m per year.

Do the math.

Psychological comfort, societal expectations, and cultural norms are valid reasons for home ownership. But when it comes down to the math: it just doesn't work. I own a couple of homes for the reasons stated above. They're not good investment.

Investment is math, not emotions!
Buying a home to live in is a good option for SOME people. Especially if you:

1. Can get cheap mortgage (< 8%)
2. Can pay cash.
3. Plan to live in it for 10 years.
4. Need the psychological comfort of home ownership.

Otherwise home ownership is mostly a bad investment. Those two tweet are exactly the same. Sometimes people are so emotionally invested in a point of view that it clouds their judgment. You can't make investment decisions emotionally. You'll get into trouble every time you do that. Selah.

Investment = Maths + Logic

1. Never invest because it feels good.

2. Never invest because it sounds good.

3. Never invest because you like the manager.

Maths: Do the numbers make sense?
Logic: Do you understand how it works?

Investment = Maths + Logic
"Renting is wiser for MOST people"="Buying is a good option for SOME people"

Review your options. Evaluate your emotional needs and make a choice. The math favors other forms of investment. Your psychological needs may favor buying a home.

Just do the investment math first.

Hi guys. I bought treasury bills from zenith's secondary market and was told the interest is about 7-8% as of last week. They deducted my money now and I got a ridiculously low interest of 44k on 5,500,000. The duration I filled was 90 days. Even the last one I did in May, I got 251k on 4.2m at 12% interest. Can I cancel it?

True,Nigeria economy grew by 7% in 2007 and again in 2008 the All share index (ASI) fell by 40% between December 2007 to December 2008. However a poorly performing stock market means investors are loosing value, hence the reason govt cannot fold it arms and watch investor move to safer haven. The recent US fed rate cut for the third consecutive time which has open opportunities for foreign interest in high yielding emerging and frontiers market MAY not be beneficial to Nigeria equity market as foreign interest look beyond companies number when making investment decision. Unfortunately the FG is indifferent to how it's policies for private capital affects equity market.

It is either the duration given to you is not up to 90 days, the rate given was not up to 7% or the whole of your 5.5 mil was not invested. Whatever it is you can make out time to contact them and collect your certificate/proof of investment to see if the contract was actually according to your agreed terms.

Thank God people here have been able to decode that it is a Microfinance Bank and would not bother risking their hard earned money there. I wish to further advice that you should not try to lure families, relatives and neighbours to invest there as you are likely to become enemies down the line after such investment. Majority of Microfinance Bank owners in Nigeria are not very sincere and may likely mismanage or varnish with people's money. Once that happens, the people that come through you only know you and as such will want to get their money back from you. Which may not be possible because by then the CEO would have disappeared with it.

Normally there is an application letter or a form you fill requesting them to invest in treasury bill for you. If the eventual investment does not tally with your request and you were not informed of anything contrary, you may decide to terminate/cancel and won't lose anything.

I'm Presently at fbnquest in ikoyi, i think the eurobond thing is not bad, 9.7 dividends bi annual, with a minimum investment of $2,500,though rate fluctuates. Fbn mutual funds still pay 11.5 as at yesterday , so seems we are still on point . Meanwhile ,my matured stanbic Tbs for today hasn't drop ( 2.30pm),anybody in my shoe?
