why are you painting this issue to seem as if it's all women that are subjected to domestic violence and emotional neglect by their husbands? change this your mentality abeg. i have sisters who are happily married and at the same time well treated and pampered by their husbands.

Why are you and islayer mocking my view and acting like there are no independent women that are married?

Why are you people acting like every married woman is not a 'feminist' and is 'submissive'? Both of you have constantly mocked everything I have stated here and made it seem like any woman that does not spend her time worshipping men will die old and alone.

He has even resorted to using Igbo language to address me, for what? What is he saying in Igbo that he cannot state in English?

Change your own mentality as well. It is archaic and a poor reflection on an entire ethnicity, stop assuming that people advocating for women's rights are against men. We can all co-exist and respect each other.

I listened to Osimhens interview on YouTube and his discovery was by accident not through any structured process. He mentioned how someone encouraged him to for for U17 trials in lagos and according to him, he saw millions of people (of course he exaggerated) at the agege stadium and at the end of the day, Amuneke said no trials except if they travel to Abuja. So first attempt Vic was not even given a chance to show himself. He didn't give up and he found a way to go for the Abuja trials. Again he said too many people in Abuja, according to him, they had 15mins to play a game and show their skills, Amuneke wasn't interested in him but the team doctor spotted him and told Amuneke to watch him closely and thereafter the rest became history. My learning points are 1) what if Victor didn't have the means to go to Abuja and thereafter forget the trials?
2) what if the team dr. Didn't spot him?
My point is, thousands of talents are constantly wasting away because we don't have structures that can discover them on a regular basis. When there is no structure or defined methodology for doing anything, randomness and sheer luck becomes the order of the day. We need an NFF and sport ministries up till local government level to develop clear strategies to discover the numerous talents we have as many dreams must definitely have died in our beloved country. Here's the interview

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7_j-1zBcOo

Very nice point.

That is why I have called for our Zone to zone screening process to take place in a more comprehensive manner with the screening time longer than it used to.

This will give the coaches more time to screen and also a chance to see more players. Making the final selections top knotch.

Also, there needs to be a solution to cut out contacts from Agents.

We do this while we work on coming up with a proper youth development system like having a proper inter local government league which will culminate in a National Youth Champions League.

There is a lot to do. Like Academies having their leagues with different levels.

Unfortunately, Pinnick is more interested in globe trotting than carrying out development work in the local scene.

You know nothing of where I am coming from. God sees all our hearts and will reward each person with what they have done. I will keep talking until women get the respect that men like you refuse to give them.

Nobody chooses their gender, you have no right to treat people as lesser beings just because you came to this world with a penis.

I never canceled out your opinion, so, treat mine with the same respect.

Thank you

The attempt to distill everything African in the brewery of Westernization is what will lead many astray. Let me ask pointedly young woman "are you conversant with your culture"? And I don't mean the peripheral way most ladies are with it these days. I ask you because even I marvel at the amount of power the women have in our culture. I make bold to say here and indeed anywhere on earth that the Igbo perspective to marriage is virtually PERFECT. If you understand it.

Just oil the marriage with understanding. Gaskiya! You're home and dry.

Former Super Eagles winger Emmanuel Amuneke has applied for the vacant Zambia national team, the Chipolopolo head coach job, Completesports.com reports.

Amuneke, who scored both goals in the Super Eagles 2-1 win against the Chipolopolo in the final of the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations last managed the Taifa Stars of Tanzania.

The 48-year-old left the role by mutual consent following the Taifa Stars elimination from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt where they lost all their three group games.

The former Barcelona player guided Nigeria’s U-17 side, the Golden Eaglets to win the FIFA U-17 World Cup at Chile 2015.

The likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Francis Uzoho, Isaac Success and Taiwo Awoniyi were part of the team that conquered the rest of the world in the competition.

Amuneke also once had stints with defunct Julius Berger and Ocean Boys as well as Sudanese club, Al Khartoum SC.

Mbok.

My eyes have been open for a long time.

I know why I said you know nothing of me.

Nobody doubts that Igbo men have given women some level of independence, after all, they are the only ethnic group that prefers to send their daughters to school than their sons, but in the same vein, there is a high level of misogyny in Igbo land. The inheritance scenario is one of such examples.

you sound like a frustrated lady who and been bruised and messed up emotional by falling prey to the wrong men but i will advise you pick up the pieces of your life and move on. many married women today even men had such experience but later found the partner they were meant for and till date are enjoying their marriages.

anayo from abia state maltreated you doesn't mean ugochukwu from enugu state will do same to you and even if he does tochukwu from anambra state wont unless something is wrong with you spiritually or otherwise. you are young lady who wants the best in life and that is incomplete if you don't have a man and kids to call your own.

no matter the success you amass in life as a woman your parents wont be proud as african parents if you don't bring them a man home as your intended husband. change your mentality, its not a banter but an advise!

The Urhobo tradition is not far too different.
The problem is when some men think that they are the best thing that can happen to a woman else she is finished. Women do not need validation from men. Men need women as much a women need men. But it is the "what people will say" factor that really affects lots of women from our part of the world. Like you noted subtly, it's a civilization thing. Many of our views are not unique to us considering what obtains in other climes in times past.

safarigirl:
the only reason you think like this is because you are not Igbo and you have been exposed to Western ideals. If you are Igbo, you cannot reason like this.

In Igbo land, women are viewed as chattel, to be passed on from their fathers to their husbands. Much like how English women were viewed in the Victorian era.

I am just glad my father had no such training, his mother was the first female graduate from the East, so, she was not trained to be a doormat. He is well aware of what a woman should aim for; he constantly tells us that marriage should not be the aim of anyone, rather, financial independence and self sufficiency. If you cannot be useful to yourself, is it in a man's house you will be useful?

And I asked how conversant you are, of which I now know you're not. If you were, you will know that there's no serious occasion that will be carried out SUCCESSFUL CONCLUSION if the women were not carried along. It is impossible!

If they have been relegated and hated and disrespected and subjugated, will the above be possible?!

What's a true African mother?
There are different levels of feminism. There is one that wants the woman to take over from the men more like an exchange of roles. That's the one I'm opposed to, and one that will not stand the test of time if it ever happens because the family structure will be brought to nothing.

iSlayer:

All these you're saying is just a consequence of Westernization and growing Eurocentrism. This thing you're saying is not US. I can say it's not African. And definitely it's not the Igbo life chaachaa. A woman can climb to the highest level and yet be a true AFRICAN mother. They are numerous who have achieved it. This ploy to do away with the family or to reduce it's significance among Africans is not good.

The major reason females now inherit property in Igbo land is because of the landmark case of Ukeje vs. Ukeje, decided in 2014, where the Supreme Court held that denying a female child of her inheritance is against the rules of equity, natural justice and good conscience, it is not because a group of elders sat down and changed the culture.

A young woman felt slighted by the culture and had to take her mother and brother to court to secure that judgment and the victory for Igbo women around the world.

Go through everything I have said, and the only thing I have advocated for is respect and team work in a marriage. Ezekwesili cooks for her husband, do you know what he does for her? Although this is a football thread, I must admit that I have learnt a lot about culture and feminism from the respectful (a bit) exchanges between monickers here. Keep up the good work.

I still don't subscribe to the idea of calling unmarried females in their late 20's or early 30's evening newspaper. Its a negative word. A lot of factors could be responsible for late marriages. It could be sickness, late education or even personal choice and not necessarily because the said person wasn't a suitable husband or wife.

However, I must also add that the bad attitude of some females may be responsible for their late marriages. Some are very uncouth and bad-mannered. They may also have a fantastical idea of the kind of suitor they want (tall, well chiselled abs, very rich and handsome like adonis). Very few African men meet these criteria. Also, it doesn't matter how beautiful you are or how many degrees or cars you have, a disrespectful AFRICAN lady will lack good suitors. You attract people of similar behaviours to you.
