Shipping line does not determine any cost of clearing. Customs determine your cost of clearing.
I asked the question because people who made inquiries here about cost of clearing also included the shipping line

Capital No

You can only pay duty . You leave the rest for clearing agent to do for you.

The clearing agent is licensed to broker between the custom and importer ..

If you are a very big importer and you see the need to get a license . You can apply for self clearance with Nigeria custom service.

ProtectMyMoney:

No...you require clearing agents to clear vehicles...however most will not expose the correct position of cost of clearing to you except you are aware of such and can negotiate accordingly...
thanks. Please one more question. The amount quoted here for clearing vehicles, are they the only thing one will pay for clearing? Does it contain the agent service fee or will it be paid again after the actual clearing?

Its just for you to differentiate which of the shipping line . because you get different valuation from them .hence the need for any clearing agent to ask which shipping line is bringing your car . They only collect the charges due to them .(shipping + terminal charges)

I think some ships go to the private terminal whilst some use Tincan
Whilst i do not have accurate information on this, i think it has to do with terminal charges...i shall verify this at a later date and respond. Except aspire44 is willing to assist.

Its inclusive of the agent charges + shipping + terminal charges . no other charges to be collected.

But peradventure the job enters what we call alert , then the importer has to be informed that the job has entered alert . A DN will be raised to pay a differential .DN means debit bote .

In case the Agent block the necessary loop holes then there is no need for additional payment. I hope the above is understood.

This is where you need to put your negotiation skills in use.

If you are willing to dole out more money, then expect it to be collected by the agents.

Yes you are right .

The only terminal that does what we call TRANSIRE is sallaum (five star logistics) and basically they have two dock terminals

Lesser duties are paid there for instance protect money can move it there and you get a lower valuation on your vehicles. Because its a terminal that is trying to build up their revenue , hence their valuation is low.

Grimaldi does not have a dock terminal

In a way it does.It cost more to clear vehicles from Apapa Customs command compared to what is obtainable in Tin Can island.
The valuation to be given in Apapa would be higher thus why we regularly advise clients/importers to use specific lines we are sure of the command their vehicles would be taken to.
4 years ago a client shipped 2 Units of 2007Jaguar via UASC to Apapa Command and had to pay N1.2m each in customs duty alone compared to N750k that was paid in PTML command for a similar vehicle in the same period.

The shipping line you state makes it easier for your clearing agent to know which customs command your vehicle would be cleared from and each customs command has it owns workings thus the importance of stating the shipping line to help you get a tentative cost of clearing.
