What other explanation is there?

What am saying is that, to me, the movie has no clear or definite explanation.
I could say Adam and his dad were paranoid & all those revelations we say were basically schiztophrenic hallucinations they used to justify their actions. To further stress my point, those they kill committed one hideous crime or the other right? So when Adam's Dad told Adam that he was told by God to kill Fenton that he was a demon, asides trying to finger his dad to the cops, what else was his crime, what else made him a demon that made God ask that his blood be shed?
Again, after Fenton was starved into hallucinations, at the dining were their dad asked him if he saw God, he lied & said yes, and a younger Adam thought it Wasn't fair that he didn't get to talk to god or see stuff , and believing that fenton saw something made him even more convinced the whole thing was real.
Ironically, at the end, the movie shows us all those presumed visions he shared with his dad as regards the people or demons he killed when he was young, while according to him at the dining with his dad & Fenton, he admitted to not seeing stuff just as he puts it. With the above & many more, it clearly suggests that the father was simply paranoid & believed what he wanted to believe when he touched those folks he killed & that hysteria caught up his young son who "claimed" he saw something.
Again, looking at it from another or a dipper perspective, the movie seems like a commentary on religion and the blood some folks shed in it's name, And Fenton portrays those folks who had to break free from it, because in their minds they couldn't justify such actions that took place or have taken place in the name of religion.
So you see, it kinda swings into various interpretations.
Finally, this could be me making a mountain out of a molehill by over analysing things.

You are overanalyzing it jor. Personally the only issue I have is the movie portraying God as a merciless avenger. Asides that the movie is awesome

The boondocks was created by Aaron grinder. But somehow, adult swim had the rights to the show. I don’t know what kind of deal he signed. Season 1 - 3 he had direct creative input. Season 3 was CRAAAAY because it was supposed to be the last season so it was basically Aaron unchained. That’s where we had that crazy and people say true episode on Tyler perry.
