Johan Cryuff and the Dutch team invented a turn and a football style in the 70s that is still being used today. So much for today being more complex.

Pele and the 1970 Brazil team played a brand of football still not seen by any side today. Not even Spain's side of 2008-2012 surpasses the Brazil 1970 side. That Brazil 1970 side went unbeaten from qualifiers till the WC finals and beat a super strong Italian team boasting the meanest defenders of that era. That era, the serie A was the league giving out the least number of goals statistically. Nice argument. I see your point now. However, it remains difficult to convince modern day soccer fans about the greats of old because not everybody has the interest or patience to go watch and study their videos.

But again, were the Italians the only mean defence that the Pele-led Brazil faced in the WC? I'm asking because if so, then there is a hole on your argument. Some people here say that Pele hardly faced world class defenders in his time (save for the Italians you just mentioned)

You want to compare the pitches. small bumps, modern footballers will be complaining. I once read that player began to get referees' protection due to injuries sustained from some kinda tackles...
