With 11 goals in 15 appearances in the Dutch Eredivisie, Heracles Almelo number 9, Cyriel Dessers is the leading Nigerian scorer in the European Leagues.

Also eligible for the Red Devils, Dessers is aware that he has a slim chance of playing for his country of birth as they have several world-class strikers in their ranks, so he has set his sights on being a Super Eagle.

The 24-year-old has revealed that he was contacted by Nigeria's assistant coach after contributing to three goals (2 goals, 1 assist) in last weekend's 4-0 rout of ADO Den Haag.

''There has already been contact with the Nigerian association. After the match against ADO Den Haag, the assistant from Nigeria sent me a message that I was doing well,'' Desssers said to Sporza.

''But that is not going to be easy either. There are 300 million Nigerians worldwide."

Born to a Belgian dad and Nigerian mother, Dessers confessed that he has never visited Nigeria and is targeting a call-up to the Super Eagles even if it's for a non-competitive match.

''I have never been to Nigeria, also because the political situation has not been so calm in recent years. The last year it is only slightly better.

''I would like to go there and it would be twice as nice to do that to If only to play a practice game against Madagascar or Mauritius,'' he concluded.

Ademola Lookman is currently not having the best of times at his German Bundesliga club, RB Leipzig after all the promise and attention he had earlier courted during his teething years as a professional.

The former Everton wonderkid has played just 201 minutes of competitive football for The Red Bulls this season so far, and is worryingly on the fringes of Julian Nagelsmann's team.

It was widely expected that Lookman's return to the Red Bull Arena on a permanent basis will see him hit the ground running yet again, having taken the Bundesliga by storm during his short stint with the club in the 2017/2018 season when the attacker scored goals aplenty for them.

That however, have not been the case and the 22-year-old has struggled and is yet to play since October, little thanks to a niggling back injury and fitness issues.

He has also not opened his goal account for the season and is very much behind Timo Werner, Yussuf Poulsen and Matheus Cunha in the pecking order of attackers at the club.

There is no hiding the fact that the youngster is a bundle of talent but his development in Leipzig is clearly not going to plan if he continues to miss out on action with every passing game.

What then could be the best for the sake of his dwindling career? Perhaps a switch in the next window would help, as it is quickly become an insurmountable task for the youngster to get back into recognition in Germany.

His dip in form has not gone unnoticed at his former stomping ground and Lookman needs to prove his breakthrough was no flash in the pan, and which is precisely the reason why he might need to kick start his renaissance elsewhere.

Keep on barking as usual, clamouring for Maja to be capped then is one of the reasons andrewbaba44 tagged me an ass licker till date.

I don't know as of when Forgiveness brought him and asoro's topic here (maybe when Sunderland was still in the epl) but I took notice of Maja when he was banging in goals in the league 1 after Sunderland's demotion from the championship.

I pointed I made case for Maja here because of the unjustified abuse I got from Andrew and others then

The post u quoted, was as precise as anything, the question was "who first mentioned Maja in this thread" not "who was abused by Andrew for clamouring for an in form Maja"

The answer is simple, Forgiveness before u even joined this thread. Back then, he was also raving about a certain unproven right back then at Ado Den Haag- Tyrone Ebuehi.

I'm laughing because you do not realise that you are the Nigerian komekn while komekn is like a low key British Omanbala? Shey you know after komekn you are the most attacked moniker here. it used to be forgive.ness but not anymore.

That's your opinion and observation.

And what does that say about the people here if Indeed your observation is true.

What are the basis of those supposed attacks, disagreements, vitriolic rhetoric and abuse. Is there any justification whatsoever for that kind of behaviour.

I disagree with your correlation STRONGLY first of all. Name one person l have abused ❓ Then secondly name one person l have denigrated.

Football is about opinions thinking one players is better or worse or not so good. Is not an act of abuse or denigration.

OMANBALA takes delight in the most reprehensible vitriolic rhetoric and abuse indeed I find his approach too many here repulsive.

Indeed there are quite a few like him here.

Considering the matter in its entirety if that's the general approach to discourse here. What does it say about the larger majority of contributots here.

OMANBALA1:

Guy , I disagree with the notion that I am the most attacked moniker here, after borough Southgate. You could say the most misunderstood but I am not controversial. Nigerian kome-gini ? If you say I am anything like that guy then you are being disingenuous. I am not deceptive, bias , manipulative nor hateful. You may accuse me of high handedness but I dont operate on ulterior motive.
I am a pan Africanist and you are comparing me to a disloyal , dishonest and a disgraceful element who dances naked in the market place without bating an eyelid.

Oga, I know you want to take shots at me for somethings I probably said in the past that rubbed you the wrong way but do it in a clean way....comparing me to that walking contradiction of a man without integrity is very disrespectful. There are no basis for comparisons here...he believe English players and their league is the best and want to replace Super Eagles players with borough boys while I am a staunch supporter of our local league and want us to develop and draw players from there. I don't like our players wandering Europe looking for peanuts, neither do I want any Nigerian born to play in England. So , where are the commonalities in our ideologies ? He is not even a white person , just a confused white man's aassslicker.

You can never in your real life or in your online life be like me.

You are an open advocate for double standard bigotry, exclusion and uphold the tenements of tribalism with your open discrimination.

Then add that to your continous consistent reliance on caustic diction, vitriolic rhetoric and abuse to get your befuddled point across. See your language in the bold so typical of you.

You rarely ever underpin your self-justified, self-birthed one sided views with facts and figures. Just subjective deductions.

When l was calling for Obagoal, Ighalo, Efe, Etebo and others l guess they were all born in Peckham London.

When challenged to substantiate your position you always EVADE your really a bully online but a coward in reality. Why you can never have a discussion without abuse and you never rely facts.

I don't know what you are but a honourable patriotic Nigerian you certainly are not.

Finally, perception is not FACT its your opinion.

In my opinion the first person to put his head on the line and say that Maja was exceptional was Charlesemeka85, in my opinion.

I have mentioned players but l didn't advocate strongly for him until he destroyed league one.

Just like you advocated for Joe Aribo before anyone else. I may have mentioned him before you but l don't think l advocated strongly for him.

I strongly advocated for Josh Onomah and of course Tega and then very very strongly much later for Fikayo.

But in all of this many many contributors ridiculed and abused Charlesemeka85 and myself. They still do to this day.

That we support only European players and we're I am concerned l discriminate against Nigerian origin players.

Okereke is my boy, but for now, I won't consider him an option in the race for a back up to Osimhen. Just as Maja is doing now, Okereke needs to rediscover himself and he has many things to improve on.

For now, the race is between

- An improved Iheanacho

- Consistent Dessers

- And a resurgent Maja

Yes I clamoured for Onuachu to be invited, but he hasn't proven nothing ever since, hence, he should be dropped for us to weigh other options.

Former Sunderland striker Josh Maja enhanced his reputation as one of the rising star in the French Ligue 1 with a hattrick and an assist for Bordeaux in their 6-1 thrashing of Nimes yesterday.

The one cap Super Eagles forward took his tally in the league to five goals with that hattrick from just three starts this season. Maja is slowly showing the form that earned him a move to the Ligue 1 side from Sunderland.

Yesterday he was watched by the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr who handed the London born forward his international bow when he introduced him as a substitute for Nigeria in the 2-2 friendly draw against Ukraine in October.

Rohr will no doubt be pleased with the impact of Maja, a player he has said will be a part of the national team once he starts getting games and scoring goals, something he is doing now following the injury to first choice striker Jimmy Briand.

However Maja will have to slug it out with the duo of Paul Onuachu and a resurgent Kelechi Iheanacho if he is to win the race to become back up to first choice forward Victor Osimhen.

bro one thing about those old school footballers was their pure soccer skills and artistry. If you now add today's work ethic with their skill bros forget you will be witnessing football played on another planet.

whereas these modern guys remove the fitness without fear of contradiction i doubt up to 10% of them would be able to match up

that's why as great as players like messi and CR7 are you would be IMO hasty to call them all time GOAT after watching Maradona, Pele, Cruyff and so many others in full flight

TheGoodJoe:

If it is in ruggedity and expression of skills, Old football trumps. However, if you bring those players to the modern era, many of them will lack.

They suit their era but this current era, the requirements to keep insanely fit and play with crazy discipline, many from the old era will lack.

At the end, modern football trumps the old era due to advancement of play and insane discipline.

Very nice addition but I do not agree with that assumption.

One thing the current players have is the mad drive for success. These guys train almost round the clock. Look at the speed at which these guys recover from injury and how quickly to learn different systems of play.

When it comes to tricks, these current players like James Rodrigues, Vinicius, Adama Traore, Gabriel Jesus, Sane, Walker (pulled some mad tricks yesterday, I did not know he had them in his locker), Robertson, Lallana, Iwobi and a host of others have the skills. However, during play, they do not have the time on the ball to pull those tricks off.

Watch the last Chelsea and Manchester City game. It got to a point Kovacic was laughing at De Bruyne because every trick De Bruyne had, Kovacic stopped with brilliant positioning and reading of play. Kovacic was on De Bruyne for most part of the game.

The best way to excel in the modern system (which I see getting more intense with time) is with quick thinking and action. Just as we saw with Rodrigo yesterday.

Look at Ndidi of recent. He had to adapt because he was giving the ball away too much. Now he is getting faster with his decisions when he breaks up play or get the ball in tight spaces.

So, Maradona, Pele and Co would find it difficult to cope in this time because of having it difficult to do things with the ball, while the current players will have the tricks and quick decisions.

Watch 1:50 of this clip and see the way Mahrez trapped the ball. You will see his skills in his locker. Not to talk of Bernardo Da Silva who is just pure mad on the ball but still finds it way difficult under pressure.

Next time your watching Mahrez play, watch the way he traps the ball repeatedly. No matter how hard of high the ball is. Check out skills by Marcelo and the way he traps ball too.
