Italian Serie A club Cagliari are interested in signing Super Eagles hopeful Cyriel Dessers in the January transfer window, according to reports emanating from the Italian media. Webmagazine24.it says Cagliari legend Andrea Cossu has returned to Italy with glowing reports about the Heracles Almelo goal poacher after a scouting trip to the Netherlands and has recommended that the striker should be acquired by The Rossoblu. Dessers is in the form of his life and equaled the best half of a season in his professional career when he bagged a brace in last weekend's league match against ADO Den Haag. Cagliari are in the market for a striker with the misfiring Alberto Cerri linked with a departure from the club in the winter transfer market. The Sardinia based outfit are the surprise package of the Serie A so far this season, occupying the fourth position in the table with 28 points from 14 matches. Dessers joined Heracles Almelo in July 2019 and is contracted to the club until the end of the 2021-2022 season. The 24-year-old recently committed his international future to Nigeria over his country of birth, Belgium. 2 Likes |

SC Heerenveen winger Chidera Ejike has named retired Nigeria international Austin Okocha, Paris Saint-Germain's Neymar and Real Madrid superstar Eden Hazard among his footballing idols. Ranked one of the top dribblers in the Dutch Eredivisie this season, he has the end product to match his skills, scoring 6 goals in 14 matches and he is the joint top scorer for SC Heerenveen after 15 matches in the division. Speaking about his footballing idols, Ejike said : ''I have a lot of football professionals that I love to watch, the likes of Neymar and Hazard - speedy and dribbling wingers that are very good. ''They are top, top in the profession. Those guys I watch them play. ''In the Nigerian Super Eagles, I have always had Jay Jay Okocha as my favourite, he is the player I love to watch because of his skills and tricks. ''He is a legend and he is very good in his trade.'' Before sealing a transfer to Vålerenga in 2017, Ejike had attracted interest from English champions Manchester City and underwent trials with European champions Liverpool. |

Bordeaux striker Josh Maja has been recognized for his brilliant display in the last round of matches in the French Ligue 1, with football statistics website Whoscored.com naming him in the Team of the Week. The Nigeria international was the star of the show as Bordeaux hammered Nimes 6-0 on matchday sixteen, bagging his first career hat-trick and an assist to go with it. In a 4-4-2 formation favored by Whoscored, Maja was named in attack along with Monaco's France international Wissam Ben Yedder. The Bordeaux number 9 was among three players awarded a rating of 10/10, the others being Otávio Henrique Santos (Bordeaux) and Cristian Battocchio (Brest). Maja registered a game-high four shots against Nimes, three of which ended up in the back of the net; made one key pass, was fouled once and completed one take-on. He had a pass completion rate of 71.4 percent, touched the ball 22 times and made 14 passes. The former Sunderland wonderkid has one cap for the Super Eagles which came against Ukraine in an international friendly in September 2019. |

komekn:The unspoken and underlying point is that once you do not fancy a player, you will go to heaven and hell to look for your so called 'objective stats' to prove that the player is no good or not good enough. In doing this you use different metrics: if such a player is playing for a lower league, you will automatically tar him black When it's pointed out to you that though this player is in a Lower league, he's the most outstanding (which is one of your criteria) you'd say that league is low compared to the Bundesliga, EPL and La Liga. If such a player let's say Iheanacho is invited (then oo) and Ighalo or Martins (players you like) don't get invited you'd query it. When it's pointed out to you that Iheanacho is scoring goals in the EPL, you'd say but Ighalo has proven himself in the EPL too. When you are shown that by your own formula, it is the here and now that matters, you'd still wriggle your way out. Smart Warri man abi If the player performs in La Liga or EPL or Bundesliga you will still find something to discredit him. It's a lost cause arguing with you but many don't know it that's why they still engage you. Me never! 9 Likes 1 Share |

Marseille have been warned to play close attention to Super Eagles striker Josh Maja when they face Bordeaux in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday night at the Orange Vélodrome (Marseille). Only three days ago, Maja netted his first hat-trick as a professional as Bordeaux hammered Nimes 6-0 and was also credited with an interest for the fourth goal scored by Nicolas de Préville, marking him out as one of the Bordeaux players that the Marseille defenders have to pay special attention to. Ahead of Bordeaux trip to the Orange Vélodrome, Bordeaux reporter Clement Carpentier was contacted by lephoceen.fr to provide some insight about the Bordeaux team. He said : ''Yes, it's the new ones and even the ones who were already there, the difference is that Sousa gets the most out of them, like De Préville or Otavio, it's day and night for these two players. ''And then, the young Anglo-Nigerian striker Josh Maja, who is in the squad and who has just scored a hat-trick against Nîmes''. A very talented player signed from Sunderland in the January transfer window, Maja is the joint highest goalscorer for Bordeaux in the league this season with 5 goals in 14 games and has played less minutes than de Préville, who has the same number of goals. |

komekn:Same way you don't rate many players until they start blowing hot. Having followed football for quite sometime I know that there's evolution in the professional trajectory of players. Almost all the big stars start with small clubs and work their way up. Sometimes they stagnate just as Henry did at Juve and blew up in the EPL. Mo Salah had a round about journey to his present status. The dynamics is just too fine for one to reach conclusions so easily. As a fan what I look for is the quality. If a player combines good quality with discipline and dedication to his craft, it's just a matter of time. Once the quality is there never dismiss a player, don't snuck up your nose and gloat and laugh hoo-ha. Just watch. 6 Likes |
