No. He got away with it because Ortiz's ass was too old. You really think Wilder would have escaped with that strategy whatever it was with a younger fighter?

It's not even about avoiding but more about utilizing your dominance at any point of the fight. I'm encouraged by what I saw from AJ today so whether Ortiz is technically and fundamentally better is moot. He doesn't possess the power to press home his advantage. Plus he's really not fought anybody if we are keeping it a buck bat Wilder

I would rather AJ faces Wilder than Fury. I've seen lesser fighters wobble Wilder too many times. None of them possesses AJ's power

LMAO. Again an old Ortiz is better than most heavyweights. Ortiz looked in better shape in the second fight than the first. Ortiz will make light work of anyone AJ has ever fought.

I'm not saying Ortiz wins against AJ, I'm just saying outboxing someone doesn't mean beating him. And Ortiz will outbox most. Him or anyone else for that matter outboxing wilder shouldn't come as a surprise.

Who are the lesser fighters that wobbled wilder bar Ortiz who buzzed him? Mind you, AJ has been dropped numerous times before. To say he's never fought someone with close to wilders power is an understatement.

The Mavericks squad has been the surprise of the season.

Had them as a 7th seed at best when the season began but for their losses to the worst team in the league, the abominable New York Knicks they would be 2nd seed at the moment. It's surprising to see the role players perform and take the load off Doncic

Dude, I can channel all the anger I want, doesn't mean I can beat bud Crawford or Errol Spence. Doesn't mean I can beat kyrie Irving one on one. The mental aspect can only get you so far, if you don't have the skills to back it up it doesn't count for sh-t.

Ortiz is a solid fighter. No one is questioning that. However suggesting Ortiz would make light work of anyone AJ has ever fought is a wild and unverifiable claim. There is absolutely 0 evidence to back this up

It's not just outboxing but the fact that Wilder lost all 6 rounds and was significantly worse than the first fight. I like Wilder but all I'm seeing so far is he has not fought the guys packing enough heat to drop him. Fury for his size punches like a fairy, Ortiz is too old.

I'm not seeing the guys with the right combination to challenge Wilder but of all the 3 AJ is the only one with the right mix to do so.

Eric freaking Molina had Wilder on wobbly knees. AJ has more bodies on his résumé than Wilder and Fury combined. We saw how Fury got bloodied by a Swedish Uber driver the other day. These guys have not fought the caliber of fighters AJ has

40 year old ortiz is still the 2nd best boxer in the division, plus hes a cuban south paw. 40 year old Ortiz will still outbox AJ for most rounds. Fury too outboxed wilder how did that work out for him? Pretty much anyone can outbox wilder for most rounds. But no ones chin is good enough to survive wilder, no one has ever stepped into a ring with him without getting dropped let alone mr chinny chinchin. The fact is AJ will get hit and when he does its night night.

An out of 'retirement' Fury did that to him, what would a fit Fury have done to him? He wouldn't have come close to him the entire match .

Ortiz doesn't have a big name because all the big names avoided him until wilder. Why wouldnt they? A Cuban South paw with a great amature background and experience who's been knocking people out? High risk low reward.

Ortiz turned down AJ cause he was promised Wilder and possibly because he didn't have enough time to cycle off. You know the old man needs his juice. Otherwise people like Ortiz don't have the luxury to duck based on fear especially when there's a paycheck involved.

The fact that you admit AJ will get hit should let you know how this will pan out. He hits hard but he's not one punch man and before he can accumulate that damage wilder will knock him spark out.The only man equipped to beat wilder is fury who is a heavyweight that somehow moves like a bantamweight, again even he was sent to the netherrealm.
You mean midlevel guys were ducking Ortiz too? The Joseph Parkers? Povetkins and Whyte?

The bulk of Ortiz's résumé consists of tomato cans and that's the truth

Whatever reason Ortiz had for ducking AJ is moot. He did, so that really is that about that and we can never really say how a fight with him and AJ would go.

Lol is it possible for a boxer to not get hit in the course of a fight? All I'm saying is AJ is not Frank Bruno and really the one guy I believe can KO Wilder is AJ. He has sufficient technique and most importantly power. If he staggers Wilder I know for certain he has the power to go for the kill unlike Fury or Ortiz who couldn't

Porz needs to stop putting up these poverty numbers and start showing up!!! I don’t want to hear he is just returning from injury, these numbers are a disgrace for a player commanding his salary! You will definitely need a fresh and healthy Doncic come post season but o fear he may run out before the post season..

Flex on his way to a dominant UD win. But by God, his handlers should keep his as far away from Wilder as possible. He makes enough money on his own. Wilder will beat the brakes off of him.

I think Wilder should concentrate on Fury first. He cannot even beat Fury yet.

After the Ortiz fight I'm not so sure. AJ thoroughly outboxed Ruiz today. Ruiz only tried to turn it to a scrap afterwards which AJ was smart to avoid.

Wilder can't eat those hits Ruiz ate today I'm deathly sure of that

Ruiz is no fluke. If AJ didn't come with a gameplan, he would have gone down again

Wilder is a better match up for him than Fury. I don't like his chances with Fury so much because Fury can duck him all 12 rounds but if it's that Wilder I saw vs Ortiz. Forget AJ has a very strong chance

Fury and AJ is unpredictable, because both can duck each other all day
But Wilder will be dealt with properly this time by Fury. Just get ready for it

Whyte literally ducked an eliminator against Ortiz. Parker was a champ. How will guys like povetkin get their pay days if Ortiz derails their train? Like I said, high risk, low reward.

All the heavyweights have a resume filled with bums because the division is trash. Until they get that shot against a respectable opponent that is. Ortiz never got that and unfortunately for him when he did he got it against the heaviest hitting heavyweight of all time.

Fury did a very good job of not getting hit until he did and that's why he lasted that long. That's the scary thing about wilder, like you said everyone gets hit, wilder doesn't just hit he levels people. AJ has power but it's not a one punch KO type power, it's more of a he hits hard until it accumulates type power. He won't last long enough. In the heavyweight division everyone carries power and yes he has a punchers chance but it's extremely slim.

Dude, that Ortiz fight showed the most terrifying side of wilder. He doesnt go into fights to win rounds he goes in there to take people out. Ortiz is a much better boxer than AJ, more fundamentally and technically sound and he couldnt avoid that right hand. Even Fury couldnt avoid that right hand. AJ goes down in the early rounds. Not even playing. Wilder is the most horrible match up for him.

Ortiz who? The old Ortiz or who?
Ruiz KOs Ortiz... What about this?

LOL Fury ducked an immediate rematch shamelessly afterwards and ran to ESPN where he resorted to fighting carpenters. Otto Wallin gave him a cut so deep many argued the fight should have been stopped. There's a reason he didn't want that smoke. This time around I hope there won't be any excuses. I don't want to hear he's past his prime or some other BS. Soon, the bronze bomber will get the credit he deserved. One champion, one face, one name. If AJ doesn't keep hiding behind Eddie that is.

Well obviously but how exactly does he strategize for it? Many have tried and they've all failed. There simply isnt an answer for a man who just needs to touch you to finish you. The only person who came close only survived because of a slow count. Like Wilder says His opponents have to be perfect for 12 rounds, he has to be perfect for two seconds. What about the man you just saw makes you think he can be perfect for 12 against someone like that? Breazeale fought with focus and anger, he was demolished in the first. Anger is the last thing you should have fighting against Wilder.

Yes, Dom Breazeale is now a reference for a good fighter.
So what happened to Fury that fought with anger? He got killed?

They keep calling Ortiz old yet they keep avoiding him. Him vs Ruiz would be interesting, but I have Ortiz by decision. Ruiz was not seen as a top heavyweight until he came round and beat AJ black and blue. Ortiz was the Boogeyman until wilder demystified him.

Wilders weakness are painfully obvious, the question is about AJ being good enough to exploit it when fighters better suited to that couldn't.

Exactly, anger is not all it takes. Anger doesn't make a good or average fighter elite. Anger won't make AJ beat deontay.

You watch wilder fury and thought fury fought with anger? LMAO. Fury is the most skilled heavyweight, fought as smart as you can against wilder, guess what, he still landed on the ground, TWICE and the fight should arguably have ended the second time.

Porzingis has been really disappointing lately. I hope he is just rounding into form and not a long term problem.

My grievance with him is he seems more content with shooting step back 3's than banging in the post. It's always bizarre and borderline heartbreaking to see 7footers launching 3's instead of utilizing their size advantage inside

Nope. He got a 12 count from a ref who admitted to his error. If he was so sure he won be should have taken an immediate rematch and removed all doubts.

Wilder for all his lack of skills never shies away from the middle of the ring. I'm not knocking on outboxers but even Mayweather didn't use that merry go round tactics against Conor and if you're saying it's because Conor didn't knock him out in a first match you're goddamn right because AJ never should've gotten smashed by the fat man in the first place if he's who he claims to be.
