As a machinist i can reliably tell you it is not too lucritive in Nigeria except if you manage to find yourself in a foreign owned oil company.

However, you can still go ahead and learn TIG welding as no experience is a waste. Who knows what the future holds?

Dear Op, TIG is very lucrative home and abroad. The demand for it is on the rise every day but you have to prepare yourself for one of two things ,work with a company (offshore or onshore) or you start up your own fabrication business. I do only stick welding but I started learning TIG since September this year due to high demand for it especially for stainless jobs used in food processing industry in the country. Getting grounded in both stick and TIG welding is the way forward now . Trust me you will never regret it if you prepare yourself for both as stated above.

SMAW ( Shielded Metal Arc Welding) aka “stick” welding and GTAW( Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) aka TIG aka argon ,are both lucrative trades. Once you’re good and able to demonstrate your ability to deposit sound welds that meet the requirements of a qualified WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) through a welder performance test, you’re good to go assuming you’re looking at working in the construction industry. Often times, contractors prefer combination welders( SMAW and GTAW for pipe welding.
I encourage you to go for it.

OP, I'd rather you stick to the above advise. Learn both. The opportunities for TIG abound in the O&G and food processing industries.

However, you should limit your exposure to not more than 7-10 years, as it affects the male reproductive system. This is where the ladies have an advantage. I remember a lady that did some serious stainless steel fabrications for us years ago. She was even pregnant all through the period. She was the only person that passed the qualifying tests.

Thereafter, with the work experience built, you can start off on your own and use hired personnel or continue with SMAW or add the skill of fitting (steel members) and upgrade to a supervisory role. This is to increase your work skill latitude.

Its very lucrative if you know what you are doing. At dangote refinery argon welders are needed everyday even nigerdock , if you now get an offshore contract then you are made.

MEANWHILE WE TRAIN PEOPLE IN ARGON AND ARC WELDING AT IBEJU LEKKI , OUR PRICE IS VERY COMPETITIVE.

Lol at no responses since yesterday. Many members of this forum are undergrads, in secondary school or still struggling with JAMB.

I don’t know why it’s called TIG welding but I know a few guys who work offshore with a bunch of them. Working offshore is big money but the problem is you need connections to get slots. You can get random construction, maintenance and piping jobs around but I doubt they’ll pay so much. At all at all naim bad pass. So far you can survive on the money, sha.

You can say, not enmass and not for long term contracts but they still need welders once in while for between a month and 2 months at a time . Otherwise most of their exstaffs are in refinery just that dangote don't pay too good.

It is brother..
We pay between 6-12k per day for any contract job.
But it's an added advantage if you can fit as well. That way, you can bid for contracts by yourself, win, and then hire other welders to work for you

Re: How Lucrative Is TIG Welding In Nigeria? by etrader(m): 12:50pm On Dec 09, 2019
it is very lucrative if you can able to find job abroad but in Nigeria stop waste your time go and look for another skill to venture into. You will find it hard to get job here in Nigeria. Most of oil company prefer to use arc welding to weld pipe line rather than use argon which is very costly.

I learn the skill since 2015 from one training centre along Lagos Badagry express road around oko afoo side. I could not be able to to secure a single job today. Not only me including my colleague too..

I will advise you to think of another source of revenue for yourself.
To me it is not lucrative...it is time wasted and money consumption.....

You can engage in farming like me ...u can also engage yourself in buying and selling of agro products or engage in farming directly.....This is direction of government presently

If I am right, argon welding is used to weld oil pipes under water. It is lucrative. Some oil companies pay N700-900k per month.
My uncle comes to mind.

It's a lucrative skill in Nigeria and abroad, my advice for you is to register with ( Nigeria Welder's Association) maybe in warri port hacourt or Benin city, and start looking for work opportunity even with the skill you got now.
Combination welder are more needed in the oil and gas construction sector compare to SMAW ( Shielded Metal Arc Welding) aka “stick” welding and GTAW( Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) aka TIG, talking from experience as a QAQC
