The longest contract you get is 3years after which it can be renewed.

You're free to date and marry and have kids.

Your employers would tell you if they wanna keep your passport or not.

Imagine you're working where you had access to huge sums and your passport wt you. What stops you from handing over the cash to your cohort and fleeing the country?

These employers are just tryna err on the side of caution and i tell you no one would hold your passport against your will. If you decide after 3 months to leave any job, your passport would be returned. But your employer would report you, and you'll be placed on a work ban

Thank God for the opportunity that enabled u enter UAE as an expatriate....

Modern slavery is real in UAE.....
They don't have regard for blue collar job and don't value people in such occupations....

And yes there are migrant workers in middle east- they are those guys packed in the numerous overcrowded hostels located in construction sites....

Going to hustle in Dubai comes with a lot of challenges. Be careful about where you house yourself. UAE is a land of bedbugs

After three months of unsuccessful frantic effort to land a job in UAE, I returned to Nigeria with a load of bed bugs and their eggs hiding in every sewing edges of my suitcase without me knowing. Can you imagine bringing bedbugs on a plane with you? I declared a total war on my bedbug infested suitcase the very day I landed. The room where I stayed for the whole three months was an overcrowded room with a lot of double decker beds like a hostel with all their mattresses laden with bed bugs hiding in them.

Although my visit to Dubai was never a waste because it eventually served as a travel experience for me in getting my US visa.

Be warned!!!

It's illegal here to hold on to employee's passport, but the reason why employers do it is because they pay so much to get residence visa for the employees and so many employees will flee after getting the residence or either cancel their contract with the company which is a loss to such company

Most job contracts have a 2year duration.
After one year you're entitled to a paid vacation that includes to and fro flight to your home country. Many of this contract require that you work at least a year b4 you can resign.

In my case, I work as a teacher and I can only resign at the end of an academic session.

Anything short of this is a breach, and can result in a work ban.

If your employer refuses to give you your passport and you're able to make a case against him, he can be blacklisted and deported too. The UAE is not that lawless

I graduated from a state uni in Nigeria in 2014, served 2015, searched for job from 2015-2017, yet non came except teaching job of 12k per month, I decided to borrow to travel to Dubai, I landed in Dubai on July 2017, got job after 3days of my arrival, I work at an ice factory with 1500aed which is 150k per month. My company did my 2yrs visa for free, gave me accommodation, electricity, water and medical. I only spend on feeding. They were with my passport, Jan this year was my 1yr 6mnths, they booked my vacation flight to Nigeria to and fro, plus 100k pocket money, I spent 2mnths in Nigeria. I returned march, I cancelled from my work place around June, I runned a course called Sira for 5days were I obtained my security and safety certificate and I got a security job that pays me 250k per month now. UAE favoured me abeg. Am greatful to God.

They won't listen. The greatest problem we have as a collective people is not telling ourselves that having too many kids is a very big drain and can actually limit your progress.

What do you need 4, 5 , 6 kids for ? Maybe in the 80s this was sustainable. There's no way in hell you can sustain, grow a biz with so much kids draining from your resources. And there are people who have multiple kids from multiple women.


The cost of providing for a single school aged kid is an average of 30k , if you have 4 that's 120k already. When you factor in the costs of schooling and providing adequately for them then you are really going to be putting a lot of strain on your finances to the point you would be denying the other kids of any quality of life. Why do you want to put those kids through such misery is what I really can't wrap my head around.

It was a very very long time ago when Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was in it's infancy, though I can still remember the buses stopped on my tiny foot as I tried to collect the 20kobo for 3 eggs or a can of coke before they drove off with my money. I remember one of the course I did while I was in school, where my lecturer talked a little bit about UAE, since then I lost interest. that place is not a place to hustle, it's a place you go to have fun and come back home. if you make it over there and you get a property for yourself, once you die, the property goes to their government. your child can't inherit it neither your family.its not a place for investment or hustle but if can cope with the conditions of hustling, good for you.

A friend of mine is in Dubai, I know he has overstayed his visa, he was working and he told me his employer has his passport, we used to chat on WhatsApp, all of a sudden nothing from the guy again, even the line sef s not going through anymore, I hope all is well with him. I know he was staying with some Ibo guys like that.
