Arrogant or following his philosophy?
Walker tucking into midfield is more of arrogance. In his first season, he tried it with Sagna and Clichy/Kolarov and it failed. One of the reason why Shaw could comfortably deal with Bernardo Silva was because we didn't see Walker bombing forward. If Walker maintained his position as RB, his runs forward would've served as a perfect distraction for Shaw when up against B. Silva...

So, yes it's more of arrogance rather than philosophy.

It's his philosophy, can't switch easily because of one game.

Pep's fullbacks have always played as midfielders when attacking... A derby game won't suddenly alter that, especially when he has more quality players at his call.

All these narrow point of view, na wao. You think if Walker bomb forward that he wouldn't leave some space for Rashford, Martial and co to explore. Our forwards are very fast.

That's not his philosophy, watch Alves, watch Kimmich, watch Walker last season. Pep sometimes over does it just to come across as tactically sound. If Walker had stuck to his tasked as a RB bombarding forward when necessary, it'd have been very difficult for Shaw and that's why I give Wan-Bissaka props because he was up against not just Sterling but Angelino and he stuck to his task.

Guy leave story ooo. Its Pep's philosophy, he feels he can win with that approach and wouldn't change it for any team.

How would you expect him to change his approach because he wanted to play against a united he has been beating over the years with that same approach.

Having that kinda mentality, with capable players that can execute it will win you more games than losing.

Because we won this time dosent make him arrogant about tactics or approach used.

Make we chill abeg and savour the win.

Watch City often and you'll find Walker pushing beyond Silva when he has the ball. I wonder what Pep was thinking when he instructed Walker to move infield towards the midfield when he'd have been more useful bombarding forward from the RB position. If you followed the game closely, you'd have noticed he revert to the norm when he came to the realization that Manchster United were not going to be pushovers deep into the 2nd half after he brought on Mahrez. Walker began bombarding forward and it caused us problems as Shaw wasn't sure whether to stay with Mahrez or track the run of Walker.

Actually, the space Rashford had was because Walker was caught out of position most times as he was somewhere around the midfield rather than RB. You can re-watch the match and compare with how he sets up his team most times to see what I am talking about.

Well Pep is human. He might have made a mistake asking Walker to do that but it was more of strategy and confidence that it would work and not ARROGANCE. That's my point.

It might have worked against some other top teams and in Pep's mind he probably didn't consider us a top team anymore. Now that can be considered arrogant grin

I think he did that because he knew United would rely on counters and he wanted to stop it. He was scared of the pace of Rashford and Dan James.

If Walker ventures deep into our half and they lose the ball Rashford would destroy whichever CB he faces or even Rodri.

This is what I find surprising. How can you be afraid of our threat on the break courtesy of our pacy wingers yet you move your fastest winger in field rather than man his position to deal with the threat of Rashford? Only Pep knows.

He’s lost his best defender and cracks are starting to appear in his squad. So he’s thinking a bit differently.

If Walker ventured forward too much there’ll be too much space behind him which Rashford can make use of. Remember how we scored our 4th goal against Chelsea? He’s afraid of something like that.

Didn't work because of Fred and McSauce.

First back to back premier league win since March. And it was against 2 top teams- Tottenham and Man City. In the space of 3 days!

Abeg let people savor this victory.

We might not win all our remaining matches and might even get some below par results. But

Abeg let people enjoy this victory

if he is afraid, why not have Walker do a job on Rashford rather than moving him in field? I am struggling to understand what he intended to achieve with that move when in all honesty, I feared for Shaw up against De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Walker. I am happy Pep got it wrong sha.

That’s going to dampen his attack as they might be short of bodies upfield. He felt he needed to win the game.

Pep is renowned for using inverted forwards with the fullbacks supplying the width. It worked for him at Barca and Bayern until he flirted with the idea of Lahm in midfield (I still don't think it was the right decision as Rafinha didn't offer half of what Lahm offered when pushing forward to combine with Robben). Walker is devastating going forward and would've caused us more problems perhaps even forcing Rashford to track back but Pep thought otherwise.

I'm quite sure Pep won't change his tactics for anyone.. despite taking Ls from Norwich and Liverpool before facing United.

Good thing OGS responded well.

But Walker overlapping against a Man United team can have devastating consequences for City (Ederson especially) if Shaw and Fred remain solid.

The question is that would we have kept our shape on the left with one more body there? You saw what happen when Mahrez came in and Walker began to push forward, right?

Peps full backs have always tucked into midfield and that was how he won 2 EPL titles on the bounce. If its arrogance well that arrogance won his back to back titles. Why would he change his tactics that won him 2 titles because of Man Utd?

Zinchenko Walker, Delph always did this in the past 2 seasons

Justgoogle "Pep full backs tuck midfield" and see the number of articles on it dating back to 4yrs ago

Sterling and Bernardo Silva could have done with an overlapping fullback as they didn't have the beating of Wan-Bissaka and Shaw respectively. Pep should have overloaded the wings with his fullbacks especially after seeing McTominay and Fred put a halt to the playmaking abilities of Silva and De Bruyne. In fact, it's until late in the game that Rodri realized he had the freedom to step forward with the ball. In the first 35mins, we cut City open easily and I expected that Pep will revert but he stubbornly didn't to our advantage.

It is easier to block from midfield than to block as an attacking fullback.

Your tactics get error. You can't know 10% of what Guardiola knows.

Debruyne was already on the right side to assist Bernardo and Silva on the left to asist Sterling. If you are now deploying 2 full backs again, basically you will be having only Rodri in the middle

The luck of the ball didnt go their way, on another day the ref blows a penalty against either Fred or Lindelof handball and we have a different conversation today

vs Chelsea that City won, it took a lose ball from Jorginho plus a deflection for City to open scoring.
Replay the City vs Man Utd game this morning with same lineup plus tactics and those key moment go Citys way and we will be talking about a Pep masterclass

Those decisions will still be the same, the ref and VAR got it right. I am certain if we played again, same formation and starting 11, we will win. We have the better chances and if not for poor shooting, it'd have been an embarrassing scoreline for Pep.

What was the total shots for both teams? I firmly believe there is an agenda from the level of the FA to ensure City does not win the league this year and we see it playing out week after week where Liverpool get favourable decisions and City get the reverse

An example is this. last man tackle from behind. No foul no penalty no red card No VAR. The same type of contact that resulted in a penalty for Rashford vs City

Story.

Rashford also hit the bar, missed a clear cut chance and Fernandinho handled in the box.

City for chop 5 "on another day".
