CanadianWasp: Soul sister! Christmas brings out the kid in me. More so, in Canada. The decorations. The lights. The music. The shopping. The snow. The gift culture. Every one, from the mail man to the mall security, saying "Happy holidays" with the biggest smile and not because they want "something for the boys". . . Just cozying up with the kids in holiday PJs, watching Christmas movies with some hot chocolate and intermittently looking out the window to watch the snow fall. Driving around the neighborhood late evenings, just to look at people's home decorations and if you're feeling adventurous, you go skiing or ice skating. What's not to love? Indeed, the most wonderful time of the year. Plus, the Santa here really does look like he's from the North Pole. Much easier to explain to my inquisitive kids. 58 Likes 3 Shares |

Talking about boring Xmas, I think it's more boring here in Abuja than anywhere else, I'm not even feeling any Xmas in the air, I've not even heard a single Xmas song on radio or anywhere. My next Xmas will be in Canada by God's grace. 30 Likes |

Ligxy: Lol... I personally think Abuja has the most boring Christmas on earth. The level of OYO in Abuja makes me wonder the kind of boredom people are now complaining about in Canada. Or maybe it's cause I'm used to the Lagos lifestyle.. 12 Likes |

Good morning all, Got my golden email yesterday and I am excited to be here. Please I really need advice. We sent our passports out yesterday and we are expecting it between end of December and second week of January because of the holidays and I have to give a month's notice at the office for resignation. The problem now is, we plan to land in Ontario in the first week of February, I am pregnant and due for delivery in April. I was told Ontario health card takes effect after 3 months. Please how do I manage this? Certainly we don't have the funds to pay for medical bills when the baby arrives. Please help!!!!!! 12 Likes |

etrange: I am in Abuja and my holiday is filled with activities, end of year parties, family fun fares, birthdays, social gatherings etc. Na me dey choose the one I wan attend. Anywhere you are, associate with others. That's how you get invites. 10 Likes 2 Shares |

happyme31: Well, you sound like you have your roots in Abuja. I wouldn't expect you to be bored. It's an entirely different story for new comers and visitors. Associating with others is easier when the "others" are out there willing to associate with you. When I was there, everyone seemed to be inside their houses, at work or in small packs minding their businesses with well established family and friends.... just like you. 14 Likes |

Esomimi: Congratulations on your golden email and also wishing you strenght and much blessings towards your safe and successful child birth. You will actually get free pre and post natal support for your childbirth through the Association of Ontario Midwives who do not require you to have a health card to be able to access health care in Ontario. They are fully funded by government and will provide you care and support from when you register and are placed in their system. Just reach out to them through their contact details and start planning towards your happy day, https://www.ontariomidwives.ca/ Wishing you and your family all the best ahead 47 Likes 24 Shares |

19CannyMum:Very valid point here, I was about to say the same thing. The only scenario in which you won’t have to pay anything is if you give birth in the Toronto Birth Centre or you give birth at home(in which case you must have a low-risk pregnancy). I didn’t have health card when I had my daughter (I was a student then), the midwife coy I used had some arrangement where I didn’t have to pay for my labs, ultrasound and epidural but I was prompted to pay for my hospital stay( which was 1800 for a vaginal birth and one-day hospital stay at Scarborough General in 2016). If the OP wants a totally free birth service, she may have to consider Alberta as other people have mentioned. I wish her and her family all the best in this journey. 16 Likes 4 Shares |
