I have a problem which has been bothering me for a while now. I recently landed a job few months ago. The pay is not all that wonderful. When I add my other allowances, it sums up to 90k per month. I have been squating with a friend for some time now so am planning on getting my own apartment next year when I save up some money.

The only beauty about my job is that it gives you a lot of free time. I can be done with work as early as 1:30pm and go home.

I am thinking of going back to school for my M.Sc in UNILAG but as it is, I am my own sponsor. I have a first degree in Biochemistry.

Should I go back to school or continue working?
Does UNILAG offer part time options for students in my line of study?

You are fortunate to be employed and not wandering in the labor market.

You wanna go back to school for MSc, after then come back to the labor market.

What guarantees you that your MSc is a sure ticket to bring meals to your table?

I advise if you could find a way of shuttling between the two, work and school, and not minding the stress, it’s ok. Resigning from work to purse an advance certificate in Nigeria is not advisable.

In this regard, continue with your job. I'm in the same mix as you. I'll be starting mine January, which I intend switching to part time.

Find out if biochemistry offers part time. or if you don't intend to further on biochemistry, also check whether the field you want to go into offers part time.

What is the benefit of going back to school when you could save up and invest and double your income in 10 months.

If you buy a land for 900k.... That would pay your more in one year or more if you sell it. Or if you use the some money to get into Uber, it would also increase your earnings.

Pls sir have multiple streams of income before going for MSc. It will help you. Many who have done masters are dreaming to have a job like yours o. Please you have a blessing at hand now, don't sacrifice it for what is commonly pursued.

Didn't quit. Would be combining both. same age as you. It does gives one an advantage. But the truth is, you can on start your masters in unilag 2021 because the entrance exam will be done around July and August. Admission list around October November and December.
To be honest with you, I am thinking of just doing it since full time is one year in my department.

Why tossing a coin with your life?

Perhaps another way to look at it, make a survey and look into your seniors with MSc certificate in the discipline, were they able to get something done to sustain their lives with the certificate?
How much are they paid and how immediately we’re they able to secure a job with the MSc cert?

The only reason why I can advise to to quit the job for school is if the job is not a secured one.

OP this is brilliant. Check this out. especially with uber. You can do full and have someone deliver to you weekly. You can use the whole of next year to save that up.

u can go on wit ur masters without quitting ur job, masters isn't time demanding as undergraduate..

Yes UNILAG offer part time but don't try it. Even people collecting 250k/month are finding it difficult to meet expenses

Don't, some people with Msc don't even earn upto 90k a month, since you said this job gives you free time my advice is that you should use this free time to learn a skill, for instance tech is the thing now but if you have no interest in tech there are still a lot of other things you can learn. You can save up money and Msc later.

If the MSC program is so important to you then consider NOUN instead of leaving your current job. Getting a job is very hard in this trying times of the Nigeria and naira economy

Use your school fees to start a small business you can be doing when you close from the other work

go back to get a masters degree, biochemistry as a first degree in Nigeria isnt all that reliable, but then dont resign, just get a flexible masters class
