godspeed: Same explanation i gave previous poster. In your case.i can see from your description, u have a 12v system 500w panel...is ur charge controller mppt or pwm?. Whats the config of the panels?.. Theoritically you shud harvest btw 1.5kwh to 2.5kwh daily from ur 500w array on sunny days. 1.5kwh @12v is abt 125ah, 2.5kwh @ 12v is 250ah, thus enough to charge to full a totally empty battery.. For you to be getting only 60ah on sunny days shows something is wrong with your setup...or even your battery, as capacity of a bad/failing battery is reduced. Infact a 200ah batt may be derated to 80ah after 1yr or 2yrs of abuse/improper usage 3 Likes |

How can I control the frequent tripping flexmax80 even when there is sun sometimes. It is always going to snoozing mood. Why? |

desiji: good morning...i'll like to diy this monitoring system, but i have zero knowledge abt how to set it up. Most importantly i'll like to know about how it works. can you point me in the direction to start from? 1 Like |

funshyboi: No thanks yet, You asked the wrong question and got a corresponding answer. The wire should be copper but... Why are you trying to connect your solar panel to your battery? that usually isn't a general practice except in rare cases. 1 Like |
So I washed the panels as advised and changed the position of the two panels putting one on the east side and the other on the west site in an inverted 'v' format, aligning with the top of the roof, now the harvest has improved to about 60AH. My question is: is this the optimum I can get for this set up? There is a guy with a similar set up here who claims he gets a full charge everyday [/quote Yesterday was 145ah with the ox fan on for 1pm till 5pm With similar setup (600watts) panels in parallel and pwm controller, I have been recording not less than 100ah daily. And I use 130watts ox fan at times. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by funshyboi(m): 10:12am On Dec 13, 2019 |
dragnet: The reason why I asked the question is, I have a 60watts solar panel and 480watt battery. I think I can connect the solar panel directly to the battery. I saw 2 wires black and red behind the panel so I think I can correct it directly to the battery. Am I doing something wrong? |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by eleojo23: 10:27am On Dec 13, 2019 |
funshyboi: Where is the charge controller in the equation? That's what he was pointing your attention to. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by funshyboi(m): 10:32am On Dec 13, 2019 |
eleojo23: I was told the connection won't need a charge controller as the current the panels will generate won't be to much for the battery. Stand to be corrected tho |

That CC is one of the most useless in the world. I remember my travails with it. I quickly dispatched it with my trusted hammer. You should have seen the smile of satisfaction on my face! ojtech8291: |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by godspeed: 12:16pm On Dec 13, 2019 |
earthrealm: Thanks for your explanation. The CC is MPPT and it's about 40 AH rated The panels are 24 volts connected in parallel. I doubt if the battery is failing cuz it's relatively new and it's a tubular flooded battery. In fact it charges full whenever I travel away for the weekend. May I also add that I'm completely off-grid. What in your opinion could be the problem. I'm even thinking of getting two additional panels of 330 watts each |

Imo, I tire ooooo. The max I've ever gotten was 85 ah in a day. I just don't know what's wrong with my set up. Have u ever harvested above 200ah in a day? 1 Like |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by earthrealm(m): 12:38pm On Dec 13, 2019 |
godspeed: How good are your diy skills? Possible causes could be 1. 1 of the panels is bad 2. Wrong cable size and/or distance 3. Wrong/poor CC setup Does your CC display instantenous harvest?. If yes what is the max you have seen?... If u jvnt taken note b4..turn of 2 or 3 fans+ tv on a sunny day...and observe your harvest readout..if its not between 300w to 550w....then you are a problem with panel /wiring /CC? |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by godspeed: 2:47pm On Dec 13, 2019 |
earthrealm: I didn't do the set up myself, a professional helped me and it has been low harvest since last year. The max instantaneous harvest I've noticed is 14 amps, each of the panels is 8 amps if I'm correct. Fan? I don't even have, the only load on the set up is my 80 watts television and decoder and 2 watts bulbs which I seldom put on. My guess is that sufficient sunlight doesn't reach the panels cos my building is flanked by two gigantic buildings on the west side, hence why I moved one of the panels to the Eastside. I'll send some pictures tomorrow Do u think it's advisable to buy more panels? |

Good afternoon my great engineers, please I need a recommendation for a good air conditioning that can work with 3.5kva 24V inverter. Soccerpower inverter precisely. Thanks |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Topmost11(m): 4:14pm On Dec 13, 2019 |
godspeed: I doubt that but will have to check. I didn't keep harvest logs. I only started logging from 1st of December. I am currently out of town but will post the details once I get back. I know I have seen 140 |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by earthrealm(m): 7:16pm On Dec 13, 2019 |
godspeed: dont buy more panels yet till you send more pics, so we can see the shading you are talking about. 14amps is low, for an mppt cc. seems your cc is working like pwm. try wiring the 2 panels in series, cos if you do the maths..if you get abt 300w from your array...thats about 25amps x 5hrs , which will give you about 125ah daily, so its either the shading you complained about or your CC, or the cabling. whats the size of cables used for panels to cc, cc to batt?? |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by mcTrinity(m): 7:19pm On Dec 13, 2019 |
earthrealm: Thanks Earthrealm... It has..see the attached. I believe you're talking about their newest and latest 5KVA/48V iCruze However, the client doesn't actually charge with utility. His PV Array setup serves him very well. Cheers 1 Like
