The rich in Nigeria are stupendously wealthy.
They are comparable to any wealthy person in any part of the world.

The poor in Nigeria are stupendously poor.
Poor to the bones.

The middle class is shrinking everyday.

Sir, I support taxing them but I object to the use of the word, 'mercilessly.'
Re: We Must Tax The Rich Mercilessly – Aregbesola by davillian(m): 4:07pm On Dec 17, 2019
The gap between the rich and the poor is too much.
The higher you earn the higher the tax
And the lower you earn the lower your tax....
But the rich people will fight this with their last blood.

there are many ways we can generate revenue other that extortion

This people should stop painting Nigeria this bad image, this utterances alone will scare away investors

Go and do your research on how exportation works there and compare it with this country then you will realize one of the reason why we are here today

It is a moral crime to be worth over 3 billion dollars without paying your fair share to alleviate chronic poverty in the country.

There should be a balance. Tax the rich mercilessly and they move their investments elsewhere.

Paying taxes is not the problem but ensuring those money are channelled appropriately is the issue here. As a federal government worker you can't do but to pay tax in Nigeria because those money are being deducted from the source.. I paid not less than 35k per month at my level. Some of my bosses pays as much as 250k tax per month.
But the unfortunate thing is that people selling in the market that can make 2 times my salary after a sale are not even covered.

Foolish talk. When the rich start carrying all their investments to Ghana, you will remember this statement.

Just like you leave vulcanizing to the vulcanizer, leave economics to the economists.

In Nigeria, we have people that have five gulf stream private jets, import pizza from Italy, shave their hair in London and go for a party in Paris.

All in a weekend.

While the vast majority still see garri and fresh fish as a luxury.

That is a crime against God.

Actually, to be harsh, Nigerians need to pay more taxes.

It would be a good thing if we paid 30-50% of our monthly earnings as tax, the better to force many of us to sit up and actually take an interest in what our gofment is doing...

(Yes, I mean it.).

I already do pay 30 percent of my monthly income as tax...the question is how does it benefit me or the next person living in this God forsaken country??

I still provide security for myself..I still switch on generators etc

nobody is going to work hard for his riches only for some thieves to tax and loot it. No rich man is going to pay taxes for the poor to continue to vote for thieves. The rich will find a way as they do all over the world to protect their investments.

it is only when the poor pay taxes that we will get good government because they are the ones who are in the majority and who determine the outcome of elections and keep voting for crooks!!

'mercilessly' this is a kind of word that shouldn't come from a leader. Are there not Nigerians that are rich out of hard work? So it is a crime to work hard and become rich under APC govt? This is a terrible time for Nigerians. Our wicked leaders must be brought to book some day.
Re: We Must Tax The Rich Mercilessly – Aregbesola by ladyGKilaBCrueD(f): 4:16pm On Dec 17, 2019
lol Nigerians are barely surviving on their meagre salaries and you want them to sacrifice up to a third of their barely enough earnings? you think this is the abroad? you're joking son.

If Nigerians paid 50% of their taxes, they would be more interested in what their government is doing...and if Mr Government is doing nothing...there would be a lot of protests and then...let's say the old guys would be out of a job.

The problem with Nigeria is that we have been , since independence, dependent on revenues from whatever raw material we sell...not on taxes (which is a big part of why looting is commonplace...)
