aminusodiq:Hotels charge exorbitant bills, no one blinks. Banks charge you frivolously, nobody coughs. But when a hospital charge you for something as costly as your life, you start foaming from the mouth. Nobody dragged you to that hospital. There are hospitals you can do CS for 50k.Any thing wey u see there, you take. Same as there are hotels that charge 3k per night. You don't need to go to Presidential or Intercontinental where bills may be 100k. It's called choice. Those hospitals have reasons why that bill is that high. Same as the hotels. It's a capitalist economy. So bros, like my other colleague said, you are irredeemably ignorant 13 Likes |
Re: Nigerian Doctors Defend Yourselves From Smooth-Talking Medical Jobbbers by joyandfaith: 8:38am On Dec 19, 2019 |
murphyibiam15: most patients are complaining about hospital bills because billing system is not transparent. even barbers, bricklayer and other artisans have billing system that members of public can have access to. Hospitals should let patients understand bills for every service and product in hospital. For example billing for cs can include -bed space 2k per day, nursing charge 2k per day, initial consultation-5k, ward round 1k per day, operation 30k, theatre pack 20k, anaesthesia 20k, laboratory services based on tests, pharmacy based on drugs etc. if all hospitals adhere to principle of transparent billing , most of the problems arising hospital bills will be solved 4 Likes |

joyandfaith:I don't know what you are talking about. All the hospitals have billing systems. If you are given a bill, just politely request for the breakdown, they would give it to you. No qualms |

Re: Nigerian Doctors Defend Yourselves From Smooth-Talking Medical Jobbbers by joyandfaith: 8:53am On Dec 19, 2019 |
jaephoenix: not all. most private hospitals use discretional billing system. patients should understand billing in hospital to avoid issue. billing should be standardized and transparent. relatives can even have a look at hospital billing book. even some hospitals that have excellent billing system do not take time to explain to patients. people do not complain less about bank and hotel charges because people already know. |

aminusodiq: Well they said Bleep it we arent going to pay and went to court. That's the entire point of this post by the op. As for outrageous who sets the cost the owner or the client. I remember one day I was complaining about how much my mechanic charges me and one man said if I cannot pay him I should do it myself. That forever changed my view on trade. In your case If 120k is too much tou can say Bleep it I am going to another hospital. I don't think they can hold you. In developed countries where things work how many people do you think can pay out of pocket for healthcare. A cs will cost you upwards of 3 million naira irrespective of outcome. In his Nigeria I know places where cs is 1 million and people are paying. Its only outrageous when you cant afford it. 3 Likes |

armadeo:In the US, health insurance handles bills. U can't pay outta your pocket as an individual. My aunt in the US had a hole in the tooth, with the tooth almost eroded. They said tooth extraction and a root canal job would cost #4m, and it wasn't covered in her health insurance. She had to endure the pain til she came to the #Shithole, where I took her to my dentist friend. Dude collected 10k from her. Very comedic. So for folks complaining about cost, please do a price comparison with other countries. Even Rwanda, Sudan. Please don't compare with South Africa or Kenya. U go die. Then revert to us 3 Likes |

I’ve paid this illegal fee. I know it’s illegal but I just have to update my license on the portal. Worse part is that nobody is there to explain to you what they’re doing with the one’s they’ve been collecting. NMA is one of the most useless associations of professionals in Nigeria and efcc should reason their matter. 1 Like |

Re: Nigerian Doctors Defend Yourselves From Smooth-Talking Medical Jobbbers by Nobody: 9:28am On Dec 19, 2019 |
But I was informed by a doctor friend that if you don't pay for your license renewal by the allotted time, you will be asked to pay double subsequently. Unless this fee is stopped at the highest level of the NMA, doctors will continue to pay promptly due to this penalty. As I have always pointed out, our medical professional brethren may be brilliant scholars medically, but they are not financially or legally savvy. That is why they are too easily duped. I heard that there are also state groups, residents associations, medical women associations, medical consultants groups; etc all raking in their pound of flesh via different subscriptions. Sometimes I don't blame doctors for often being bad tempered and uncommitted to their work. The environment in which they operate is disheartening. 5 Likes |
