Before I came to my senses, they already drove off. I chased them with the aim of taking a picture of the plate number. There was traffic at Ojota. They took BRT, I couldn't. I told my wife to take over the wheel. I looked for a bike but unfortunately I lost the at the interchange. I did not know if they went straight to Ketu or Lagos-ibadan expressway. Eventually paid the bike man and went back to my family.

The cost of the new windscreen at Owode is 17k. Total cost of replacing it is approximately 20k.

May God continue to keep us all.

Sorry about your experience
There was even no need going after them
Just Thank God nothing happened to your kids. The reckless manner in which our police drive these days. Something similar happened to me few days ago, but in my case it was a convoy. There was a coaster bus at my front dancing on the road, they where at my back blowing siren & flashing light, for my mind, where una want make I enter? Their siren no let coaster bus hear my horn, as d coaster guy clear small, I just find a way to overtake him & give way for them. Police in this country need serious orientation. The way they do things at times is shocking

18 months to acquire a property is another way to look at it. Ultimately, it depends on the individual. After all, the developed countries we all wish our beloved country would be like, all na “pay small small”

Yeah you are right but you know how the game is here, na do or die affair you default the HP man will repossess his car and all your cash is gone.

That’s where the beauty of a well thought out agreement comes into play. I don’t see why anybody would agree to forfeit all he/she has paid because you miss 1 or 2 payments. I’m not advocating for defaulting on payments, but life happens, sometimes beyond your control, everything needs to be factored into the agreement.

HP is a risk worth taking provided the driver is prudent with money and already knows his onions in this business. If one can always remit 25k weekly on rentals and still have earnings to himself, why cant he do HP for same amount when the car can become his after some period? In any week of low earnings, one can always dip into his savings to balance up.

I realise we dont like risks or entering legally backed agreement.

Like Izzou advised, he should just be sure the car is in good shape. It is a bad business taking an HP car to mechanic everytime.

2.5 million sounds good. It will take you above 18 months to buy the car, without any defaulting. The question is "Are you sure you can devote such period of your life for a car"?

Also, you'll need to be sure that the car is okay. Most partners are usually friendly from the start. But when you resume and you default, story changes. Make sure the car is okay oh. If one tyre is bad, let him replace it before you start. Stick to your agreement

Also, ask him to comprehensively insure the car. It's an HP package, and I don't pray for anything bad to happen, but if it does without you being on a comprehensive insurance,........
Tell him you need it to be insured comprehensively

I wish you well sir.
2.5m doesn't sound any good for a Nigeria used car that is worth 1.3 or less for 2.5. guy no go there oo. Beat the price to 2m. Am sure it's the same guy from Agege I turned down his offer cause of bad morrow, bad car stereo and bad shocks and the steering is strong to turn and also the hand break is not working he said I will fix them myself

While I agree with you on the bolded, HP is much more than that

On rentals, the partner has a fair share(if not larger) of responsibilities concerning maintenance of the vehicle, but on HP, the Driver is solely responsible for everything.

If my compressor is bad on rentals, I call my partner. If it's bad on HP, I fix it myself and I must still remit that week

As Eizenburg said, the AGREEMENT is most important in HP. Even on rentals, before I ask you if your car is good, I must ask you your terms.

Also, it may not sound fair, but I think A DOWN PAYMENT for HP is best. It makes the period lesser, and also makes the goal more realistic for the driver

Most Nigerian used cars you see on HP started as Toks. But when one driver starts and he can't finish, he dumps it. Another picks it up, and the cycle continues

Having a down payment will help anyone entering HP.

It's just my opinion sha

I think drivers suppose to have a platform where they post any salvage/lemon car they've driven, this will help other drivers avoid such vehicle when call for inspection, or it will also help them to know what to look out for during inspection.

Salvage cars everywhere.

A car given to an innocent driver yesterday is already giving him serious issue today. I have to tow him from Jakande (ipara) to the owner's house at sangotedo.

On my way back this evening, I was behind him at Chisco traffic light, as the light turns green we moved, suddenly his car began to jerk till it finally stopped. When I noticed the phone on his dashboard I knew he's a fellow, I overtook him, reverse then park in front of him.

The rider started to hala, i explained to her that cars can go hairwire anytime. She ordered for another and left. (The driver that came to pick the lady didn't even care to come out at least to see what's wrong with a fellow driver that warrants his passenger to request for another vehicle, even when he saw our hazard lights on, he was relaxing inside his 4 inches Corolla)

When I asked the guy what the problem was he said that today is his first day with the said car. He has no idea of whatsoever. He suggested contacting those guys at Ipara to come and check, I told him to abort that idea, but rather let him call the owner. When he call the lady I noticed the change on his face, I asked him to come inside my car so that I can hear their conversation as well. The woman asked him if she's a mechanic, if he can't sort himself out let him sleep there with the car, she drop the call.

I was angry, I got her number and call her;
Me: Good evening ma
Madam: Na who be this?
Me: Madam Funke, your car and your driver are obstructing traffic, you may come to LCC office tomorrow to claim your car.
Madam: no sir please, let me talk to my driver please
Me: Please not with my phone ma, call him.

She call the driver, by this time I've already paired his phone with my car Bluetooth so the both of us can hear.

Driver: hello ma
Madam: hello ma too, olorubruku, otiyawere
Driver: excuse me ma
Madam: so you called LASTMA to come and tow me car away, ehn? Ee no go better for you, all of you are the same
Driver: madam I don't like the way you're talking, I didn't call any LASTMA, the car breakdown at the traffic light, they help me to push it, they overhead your response when I called you, that gets them upset.
Madam: my response kill all of you dia
Driver: madam what's the way out? Are you going to call your mechanic?
Madam: young man please can you bring my car? I don't blame you, that's how the previous driver destroyed my engine, now you're planning to destroy this new engine I put at Ladipo? Please return my car, I will call Ladipo tomorrow.
Driver: please ma, how do I return this car now when it's not even starting again?
Madam: anyhow you want to do, if you like push it but I need my car here, tonight.
Driver: but ma, I (she interrupted him with a question)
Madam: how much dey your hand?
Driver: 3500
Madam: since morning? 3500? Ah, wetin I no go see for Lagos? Who sent me to do Uber business?
Driver: have you forgotten that you asked me to do alignment and balancing today, and remember there was no fuel when I pick the car, I've spent more than 10k today
Madam: look for someone that can tow you for 5k, when you get here I will pay the balance.
Driver: okay ma, but no one will collect such amount by this time plus the distance, let estimate 10k, because of traffic
Madam: 10k? Are you towing the car to hell?
Driver: I'm at Jakande, it's far
Madam: and so? Is Jakande at sango? Is Jakande at ibafo? Is Jakande at seme? Oga please bring back my car.
Driver: let me look for someone that can tow me
Madam: whatever, I'm waiting.

That's how I tow him to united estate, the basket mouth woman came out and was ranting

Madam: where the towing van?
Driver: I didn't see any so I asked someone to tow me
Madam: how much? This one isn't a towing van, it'll be cheaper
Driver: her said 15, I didn't have a choice because LCC have already positioned their van to tow the car
Madam: oga, na 7k dey my hand, he will balance you, thank you
Driver: but I told you how much I have on me?
Madam: and I told you how much I can afford, please can I have my car key?

He drop the key and we left her house, when we get to the road he gave me some money (I don't know the amount since I didn't collect), I rejected it, I told him to forget. I told him that I wanted to make sure he get some bucks from the woman, in order to recover his expenses. The guy was so excited going home with 10k

I've advice him to run away from that car and the madam, they don't worth it

Please drivers always try to be your brother's keeper, it might happen to you tomorrow. Even when I have a rider, I do slow down to ask what's the matter.
may you find help in the time of need.

If you buy Toks for 1.6, and a driver uses it for 3 months and quits, how much will you put it on HP?

I'll appreciate if you don't explain. Just answer it as I typed

Or are you the owner of the vehicle and it's the vehicle just 3months or I missed the part where he mentioned that the car is just 3months. Please I need your reply.

Oh I don't own the car

And 2.5 million for a Nigerian used car on HP is not bad. The condition of the car is most important, not whether it's naija used or Tokunboh.

To each his own, but I'm sure a lot of us screaming 2 million won't do it when you're in that position

Alright go and get a car that has been used by 3diffrent drivers for 2years+ for 2.5 million in the name of hirepurchase and pay for another 1year and half making it almost 4years and see the difference between "had I know and I always knew" . If its 2months or 3months is ok... So check my quote well I never talked about 3months old Naija used. I am trying so hard not to insult anyone on this forum. Seriously... I’m not surprise at the age bro, during my NYSC and after I’ve seen and lived with Barrons, traffickers and addicts most of them are from responsible homes, young, intelligent and good looking. In the end I really don’t know the pleasure they get from this thing call drugs. Most of them really want to quit but it’s so difficult I just pity them.
