Well, in African society, marriage is seen on a different perspective. Love is not key in getting married in African. In the olden days for instance people doesn't court or know each other yet the live together as husband and wife for decades. The reason is because there were norms and traditions which were like set standards for married couples. Every Male or husband knows what he should do likewise every female or wife which is not seen today. Divorce wasn't an option then unless in a very difficult situation especially barreness.
In today's society, things have greatly changed mostly due to our alignment to western life styles. Women and men no longer know where their duty post is. This is one of the things affecting marriages in today's society. You can only stay in today's marriage if you can overlook that set standard behaviour espected of a married man or woman.
In African and Nigeria in particular, the government doesn't take care of its citizens and insurance is not working unlike in advanced countries. Have you see people who doesn't have family in their old age? In our society, marriage is a form of investment that takes time to yield. It is your kids that takes care of you when you get much older. People don't stay in marriage because the love is always there, they stay to nurture their investment and see if it would yield a good result.
Marriage has stages. The early part of it seems the most difficult. It is this first 10 years that is most difficult.
Those who said they won't marry should make up their minds on that so they don't change it in later years maybe when they are like 50 years. Those who want to marry should equally make up their minds and work towards it. In African society, one could miss opportunity simple because he or she is not married. Some are enshrined even in the constitution.
My advice to those who want to marry is to marry when you can maintain your family and most importantly have a small sized family of say 2 or 3 kids irrespective of their sex. I married at 34 and have 3 lovely children and we have decided not to give birth again.
