Did I hit a raw nerve? Kenya GDP is around 100B - as of today - and our debt servicing is merely 30% - that is about what is recommended if you go to you bank - that leave you with 70% to met salaries, pension, recurrent expenditure and development.

Now genius - explain to us - how after spending 70% of your revenues re-paying debt- do you pay salaries, pensions, recurrent expenditure and still get money for capital expenditure (development)?

Lol rvp you just described Kenya in few paragraphs....

Kenya borrows to pay to old debt and despite that your debt to GDP doesn't reduce but keeps soaring higher ..let that be your worry

4th Mainland Bridge: Lagos government unveils 39 bidders

The Guardian (Nigeria), December 18, 2019

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday unveiled 39 construction companies who have expressed interest in the construction of the proposed Fourth Mainland Bridge in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state government had advertised for expression of interest on the Fourth Mainland Bridge some weeks ago.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Mrs Aramide Adeyoye, said the opening of the bid was the first of the six stages before a winner would be selected to construct the proposed bridge.

Adeyoye said that the process was very transparent, adding that government was encouraged by the number of companies that bidded for the project worldwide.

She said since the government did not have the fund for the project, it had to place it under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.

According to her, the next step of evaluation will begin soon, adding that the companies that qualified for the next stage would be contacted.

She said that the state government made the bidding public to get investors’ confidence in the project.

The special adviser said that government was committed to ensuring that the project, which had been in the pipeline for over 30 years, was completed to further ease gridlock in the state.

The Managing Director, Advanced Engineering Consultants, Dr Peter Agunbiade, said that the journey to construct the Fourth Mainland Bridge began many years ago.

Agunbiade said that the current administration of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, hadm it possible for the construction of the bridge to be revisited.

He said that companies in Europe, Asia and others duly expressed interest in the project, assuring that the state government would ensure transparency in executing the bid.

The Permanent Secretary, Works and Infrastructure, Mr Olujimi Hutonu, said the journey started on Nov. 28, 2019 when the advert for expression of interest was placed.

Hutonu said that three weeks later, the expression of interest had been opened and made public.

He listed some of the companies that expressed interest in the project as: Julius Berger, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), Kyeryong Construction Company, Pythgoras Holdings and CRCCCI Nigeria.

Others are China State Construction and Engineering Corporation Nigeria Ltd, Bua International Ltd, China Jiangxi International Economic and Technical Cooperation Company Ltd, among others.

Lol just see the way companies are clamouring to construct this bridge for us, and the funniest thing is that it is funded through PPP...not that scam proposed bridge in Kenya that Japanese wants to use in indebt-ing the animal kingdom and own a share in the colony's NEOCOLONIALISM.....

Oh I forgot to add that this would be a 2 story bridge with the upper part meant for vehicle commuter and the below meant for pedestrians movement and shopping malls...the below part will also serve as a major tourist attraction since it will house open spaces and offer an amazing view of the Atlantic Ocean........No other way to call this but world class and very innovative.....

LAGOS | Ilubirin Housing Estate | Master-Plan | U/C (Parts of Makoko slums upgrade )

LASG, FIDC to complete Ilubirin project by 2020
The PUNCH, November 11, 2019
Maureen Ihua-Maduenyi

The Lagos State Government and its partner in the Ilubirin Foreshore Housing project, First Investment Development Company, have said the estate will be completed and delivered by 2020.

Ilubirin Estate is a public housing project on about 15.1 hectares of reclaimed land at the foot of the Third Mainland Bridge.

It is being developed by the Ilubirin Fireshore Projects Limited, a joint venture between the Lagos State Government and the First Investment Development Company.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu- Fatai, at a tour of the project, said with the commitment from both parties, the commercial development would be completed at the said time.

The commissioner said, “We have a solid plan to deliver the first phase of the project, which is residential in the fourth quarter of 2020; to be followed by the commercial and entertainment/leisure parks in 2021.

“Ilubirin is a critically important development for the city that will rejuvenate the area. We have a duty to ensure that more Lagos residents become homeowners and that the homes themselves are built to global and international standards.”

He stated that when completed, the project would address the housing deficit in Lagos.

According to the Project Director of the FIDC, Wale Bamgbelu, there is collective determination and commitment from both parties to the timely delivery of Ilubirin, which he said would set a new standard for mixed-used housing estates.

“Ilubirin will create a benchmark for future community development in Lagos State anchored on the concept of ‘live, work and play’ with not only residential offerings but also offices, shopping, new school, hotel, medical centre, leisure facilities and brand new Marina for the lagoon,” he added.

Bamgbelu said a revised master plan was recently completed to help in optimising Marina and creating a new shopping spine through the new neighbourhood.

I love this illubrin project...it is not only meant to provide a rod class housing environment with amazing skyscrapers but will also serve as a tourist attractions with resorts and malls included..

No one has criticized borrowing(fvck even developed countries won't be where they are today without borrowing) here but borrowing without paying back or paying in a foolish manner has always been our issue with them.....

Kenya with a debt of about $62bn with a supposed GDP of $99bn have nothing to show on ground other than an overpriced ugly sgr connecting mombassa to nairobi and 10,000km of tarred road since independence...

Do you know Kenya borrows to pay old debt sand still have to sit their asses down whilst watching interest accumulate...tell me is that not insane...
..that is the height of stupidity...even an ordinary roadside business man knows this kind of useless practice can cripple his business within few months..

Despite this stupid practice their debt to GDP keeps increasing instead of reducing...

3- The Oshodi-Ebule-Egba BRT route project will span 14 kilometres – from Oshodi to Abule-Egba,
4-The oshodi- Bus Interchange (Old pic)

Oshodi is very choatic to drive through, majorly because if the massive road construction leading to different locations like Ikeja, airport, apapa, badagry...

That Lagos-ibadan railway video is old they are doing a free test ride from now until March you can get on at agege than it will take you all the way to ibadan, the train is very slow because they said they were operating it at 20km/h but when it fully opens it will be 100-150km/h meaning the trip would be just other an hour

All we need is to get to apapa port which will be done by March than the rest of it will be competing the stations by April 2020

I like how sanwo Olu is harness and unlocking ppp potentials..

Sanwo-Olu seals deal with private developers to build 8,200-unit hostel at LASU

’It’s legacy that’ll outlive us’ - Gov’s Education adviser

Lagos State University (LASU) is set to become a residential tertiary institution, 36 years after it was established. The State Government, at the weekend, signed a Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) agreement with six private property developers to deliver 8,272 units of hostel on the school campus in the next 18 months.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu officially approved the BOT agreement at a short ceremony held at Lagos House in Marina on Friday evening. The deal, which will lead to the construction of six blocks of Hall of Residence, was wrapped under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) policy of the State. The concessions will run for 35 years.

When the private developers deliver the projects in 2021, it is expected that 30 per cent of the school’s 26,000 student-population will be served, thereby reducing the pressure resulting from over subscription of privately owned off-campus residences.

After approving the contract, Gov. Sanwo-Olu said the development further underscored his administration’s objective of driving up quality output across the State-owned schools through provision of infrastructure critical to facilitating better-quality teaching and learning.

When LASU changes its status to a residential institution, Sanwo-Olu said there would be improvement in students’ academic performance, while the school would also move up in its global rating.

He said: “We have just approved an investment that will not only provide comfort to students, but also make positive impact on the future of our youths. If we agree that the youth as tomorrow’s leaders, we should not pay a lip service to things that will mentally prepare them for the future. It is only when we make investments like this in citadels of learning, such as Lagos State University and other higher institutions, that we can help the youth activate tomorrow they desire.

“The partnership we just sealed with the six private investors is strategic, because it is going to strengthen our capacity as a Government to scale up education quality and bring about improved academic performance of students. It will also help LASU in terms of global rating and outlook. We are using this model as a test case, which governments from other parts of the country will come and emulate. I believe we can deliver on this project and set a precedent that will change the course of tertiary education for good.”

Sanwo-Olu told the developers not to default the agreement deadline nor deviate from the terms of the agreement, stressing that the State Government would monitor the development of the Halls of Residence at every stage of their construction to ensure compliance with agreement.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Hon. Tokunbo Wahab, whose office facilitated the contract, said Sanwo-Olu had created a legacy that would outlive him with the approval of the BOT agreement, reiterating that there would be more private sector-led infrastructure development programmes to be initiated across the State-owned tertiary institutions.

Wahab pointed out the six concessionaires were selected through a transparent bidding procedure fully handled by a reputable management-consulting firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

He said: “Today’s signing of the agreement speaks to the heart of the Sanwo-Olu administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S agenda, which takes provision of quality education as fundamental pillar. All we have just done is to provide infrastructure that will make the campuses of our tertiary institutions habitable place for our students. By this agreement, we have just made huge positive impacts on the 26,000 LASU students, who regularly face needless pressure in securing scarce off-campus accommodation.”

LASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Lanre Fagbohun, who was at the ceremony, described the development as “significant”, saying the agreement would radically change the landscape of the institution.

The contractors will move fully to sites in January and the projects will be completed by the middle of 2021.

The concessionaires are Costa Del Sol Limited, Seamless Integrated Limited, Aircom Nigeria Limited, Clay Hall Limited, First Investment Development Company Limited, and Advent Integrated Services Limited. wink
