NPA Pays $23m Equity Funding In Lekki Deep Seaport Project

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has paid about $23 million as part of its counterpart funding for the Lekki Deep Seaport Project.

The project is a tripartite project between the promoter, Tolaram Group, the NPA and the Lagos State Government.

The equities in the seaport included 20 per cent for the federal government through the NPA; 18.15 per cent for Lagos State government; and 61.85 per cent for the lead promoter of the project, Tolaram Group. The project is expected to create about 169,972 direct and indirect jobs and generate revenue $190 billion to the state and federal agencies in form of taxes, royalties and duties.

Investors always invest their money based on so many factors starting from basic economics to ROI (Return on Investment), access to the Sea of course, ease of doing business, , conducive environment, government incentives, safety and security and so on.

All the coastal states in Nigeria are free to promote and secure deep seaport investments because it is up to them to convince investors to send such investments to their states based on whatever incentives and economic argument they are able to present to seaport investors.

Delta state is going ahead with theirs and Ondo state that you just mentioned is also going ahead with theirs, the FG is not stopping you and investors won't spoon feed you a seaport just because of sentiments and emotions, you have to get up and do your job first.

A Spanish firm, Ocean Infrastructure Management (OIM) and its Nigerian partner, Franchise and Business Solutions Limited (FBS) will thursday hold a high level interaction with Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu in Akure over the Ondo Deep Seaport project.

The meeting with the governor would also witness the presentation and adoption of the Project Implementation Plan for the Deep Seaport spelling out milestones and timelines for the completion of the multibillion dollars project.

Consultant to Ondo State Government on the Deep Seaport Project, Amiable Consultancy and Logistics Services Limited in a statement said the project has continued to enjoy the interests of international investors from various parts of the world.

Egharevba, who is a former Executive Director, Marine and Operations of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), said some key milestones, including the preparation of the port feasibility study; conducting preliminary surveys such as the bathymetric/hydrographic survey and geotechnical survey; soil resistivity test, Met-Ocean studies; and topographic survey for the deep seaport have been successfully achieved.

She said the feasibility study and conceptual master plan for the new port have been approved by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).

Ondo state is on track, they've done their homework and they obtained FG approval.

I know some folks in Nigeria love too play the victim and ransom game and accuse other people for their laziness, lack of preparedness and horrible leadership, but it it not other people's job to spoon feed you or do the job their leaders are supposed to be doing.

While leaders and governors in other states are scrambling and working hard to secure investments, they sit on their arse and blame every living being under the sun for their leadership and societal failures.

That's what governance is all about.

A good Government will channel their energy on every available opportunity to generate more fund instead imposing more hardship on the citizens through additional tasks as we've seen in recent days. That is why we need a government in the first place.
