Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde says his administration will not chase street hawkers out of the street without providing them some alternative means of livelihood.

Makinde made this known during a media chat with Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (because) on Saturday while addressing issues bothering on governance in the state.

According to him, "Street trading cannot be eradicated overnight. Some of them are breadwinners, and that is their main source of income. I agree it's very dangerous. Our position is,. we can't chase them off the street without an alternative.

"The ones removed from Ojoo, were moved to the Akinyele trailer park. At scout camp, we reduced the rent for stalls and ordered installation of electricity, toilets etc. we have to be careful we don't take away their means of livelihood without offering alternatives.

"Dealing with the issue of street trading requires careful planning and implementation by the government," he said.

I will only tackle other state governors if they attempt to influence national politics in any form
or engage in reprehensible acts such as election rigging.
It is not my business whether they are building flyovers or cutting grass.

A governor should do what his state people want.

I would have replied concisely by rolling out his achievements that have been noteworthy so far buh I won't. I will just tell you to visit Ibadan yourself for a day or 2 to just feel the environmental changes, then move to different areas and engage the residents in a convo. It's a very simple thing.

Don't just sit down in your state, criticizing another whose people have shown love and heaved a sign of relief since he's bn in power!

Everyday, people pray for this guy. He's touched lives of many even before he was voted for . Pensioners don't joke with him.

Nwanne, the Afonja praising is just too much. So far I have not seen even pictures of a single Infrastructural development the guy has done to warrant all the hype, except Christmas lights at a junction and putting bulb inside streetlights. Governor Ikpeazu has executed more project than the Makande guy will probably throughout his tenure yet OVI gets insulted in the media everyday. I have been to ibadam recently and I don't see what he is doing. Go to Abia state and see projects everywhere. I mean everywhere. I think he may just be a likeable guy, plus he is a PDP governor in Southwwaste, but he is not doing anything special.

Makinde should not allow any praise singer to deceive him, it's too early for all that because if we have to be sincere he has not done anything noteworthy. Paying salaries on time should not be a yardstick for judging performance please. We need to grow out of using that as a benchmark for performance and good governance in this day and age.

We are so used to useless leaders that our standard is sooo low. Elected officers doing basic things now seem like something major.

Well, i think he is trying his best, i was in Ibadan twice this year , not much in term of infrasructure and environmental sanitation. in term of waste management is still poor. Dumping waste on road meridian looks ugly and something should be done about it... but he has lot of good ideas and policies and his gov only 6 month old.
