Educate myself on Afros instead of just Brazilian wigs lol what an assumption. Lol I’m 5’6 ft tall , 3A and 3c my shrinkage is 18-21 front to back, 24-28 inches when straighten or blow dried . I constantly chop off two to four inches yearly as I do not want it to grow beyond a certain length due to my day to day activities and yes I tend to wear weaves or wigs sometimes especially when I’m too lazy to maintain my curls lol You see, some of us I’ve been natural all our lives and we don’t go around acting like we know it all. it’s a way of life for and it’s ought to be normal . So it’s safe to say you’re one of those natural hair fanatic that assume just because they’ve discovered a tiny little coiled popped up on their scalp they can easily tell other people off. I’ve been natural all my life lol You state it’s takes you 5 min to get your hair together etc and I basically told you I know a lot of 4s around me that struggle to get their hair out together daily .. By the way I’ve got 4s in my family too . fieryy: 4 Likes |

Image123: Exactly. Nothing wrong with it as long as the pain is not excessive. Pain is a simple reality of life and it's how we deal and respond to it that matters the most. 4 Likes |

midnighter:Exactly. Braids is more durable . plus lets not forget the discomfort the child has to go through every morning. For some children sitting still alone is enough punishment imagine they have to sit still every morning to get their hair done. Personally i dont like someone making my hair,if i make my hair as old as i am i must take drugs. So i stopped ,i weave my hair myself and put on my wig. People are sensitive to making hair differently. So for children who are very sensitive when making their hair, its better to cut it and let them be. 6 Likes |

Surrey2Bimshire: This is a big problem in our community. Since the natural hair movement started there has been backlash because people can be very inconsiderate. I'm natural too but I try not to preach to people because it's a complex issue and everybodys experience has been different. 3 Likes |

Reading some comments here is really funny, not all kids will have soft natural hair, there are some that will be so hard that they can actually break combs with just one touch, that is how hard it can be, you are left with no choice but to always braid the hair, you can imagine braiding those type of hair, there is no how the child won't experience pains, and my hair fall in that category, As a kid, I had a very very hard and stubborn hair, combing it alone makes me cry, but I refused to cut it all because it was so long, back length, and because of my family church and parents, relaxing was a no no, as an adult right now, even with the relaxing and all, it still hurt alot when making and combing it, in fact, I don't allow anyone loose my hair no matter how plenty it is, and I have to always use soap every three months, if not, it will start to turn natural, that is how some kids hair can be. 5 Likes |

Ladycewhy: Yes, I think the child's individual temperament is important too. Some children are more sensitive than others and some children would rather bear the pain and hours of sitting still rather than shave their heads My pain tolerance has always been okay but if I find somebody with a soft hand I will stick to them like glue some of them will be acting like its your scalps fault that nepa has gone on strike smh you will just be shouting at them like a madwoman |

1Sharon: First off, those kids hair looks soft, really soft, not all kids have that, hard stubborn hair needs to be braided cos it will be not be convenient to always do those styles everyday even for the child, and this is Nigeria, some schools won't allow such styles, either you cut it off or you braid it. 4 Likes |

computergeek:How long does it take for the buns to scatter, after she spends 10 minutes packing the hair? See, no matter how small the pain is....some children will still cry a ruckus. The best thing is to plait the hair once a week, if possible with thread. It is much less painful. As child gets used to the braid, she stops crying in pain. Black natural hair always looks unkempt and frizzy, after a few hours, no matter how well it is styled. Braids, threads and chinny bumps tend to keep the hair neatly packed for a few days. 2 Likes |

midnighter:for me its every body o,no matter how gentle. This year i only did my hair twice and it was out of necessity. So i can understand some children are like that too. My only anger is when parents refuse to realize their child is very sensitive to making hair and still let it continue. 1 Like |

When there is clipper? Why allow a child to suffer all in the name of beauty? What I can't withstand as an adult, no daughter of mine will pass through that until she is ready. To hell with class and stupid beauty. Children are naturally beautiful. Let them be children. We play cos we wanna show we are not the worst off. That we belong. As simple as that. All the other reasons are bullock. Let's not forget that no country beat Nigerian women in spending money on hairdo. That has extended to our kids. Some even use hair relaxers or fix weavon. |
