China will rewrite the Bible and the Quran to 'reflect socialist values' amid crackdown on Muslim Uighur minority

China will rewrite the Bible and Quran to 'reflect socialist values' amid crackdown on the country's religious groups, a report has revealed. New editions must not contain any content that goes against the beliefs of the Communist Party, according to a top party official. Paragraphs deemed wrong by the censors will be amended or re-translated.

Though the Bible and Quran were not mentioned specifically, the party called for a 'comprehensive evaluation of the existing religious classics aiming at contents which do not conform to the progress of the times'.

The order was given in November during a meeting held by the Committee for Ethnic and Religious Affairs of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, which oversees the ethnic and religious matters in China.

A group of 16 experts, believers and representatives of different religions from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China attended the conference in last month, according to Xinhua News Agency.

The meeting was supervised by Wang Yang, Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

Mr Wang stressed that religious authorities must follow President Xi's instructions and interpret the ideologies of different religions in accordance with 'the core values of Socialism' and 'the requirements of the era', French newspaper Le Figaro reported yesterday.

Christians in China don't carry out violent acts against the state, even the Catholic church had to reach a compromise with the communist Govt by appointing only Bishops approved by China from a list of Priests submitted from Rome to the Govt to be vetted. But there are some in the church leadership who don't approve of this approach leading to some level of division and dispute in the church.
There is still the underground church which faces persecution and not approved by the state, but they are not violent.

Uighur Muslims will not approve of this arrangement where only Govt vetted and approved Imams can administer mosques and lead the Ummah leading to continuing violent resistance. Some see it as attempt to dilute Islam.
China in turn forcefully send the resisting Muslims to reeducation camps where they are forced to either renounce Islam or accept the version the state see as non extreme and under state appointed Imams.

All in all, religious persecution is common in China and economic prosperity is not helping matters, because the country is advancing in all spheres without every citizen going to pray for development in churches and mosques like we do here.

The Chinese also think that giving total freedom to Christianity and Islam will lead to infiltration and destabilization by the West and Arabs led by America and Saudi Arabia working together.

Many self righteous religious folks will not be happy with this. The day Christianity and Islam are allowed to thrive in China, that marks the end of the stability of the Chinese government.

That is just wrong, rewriting two of the major religions holy book just to suit their their socialist agenda is just sickening.

Probably that's why the US hates socialism and communism and why Hong Kong doesn't want Chinese rule.

This is bad news for Muslims...but I bet Christians don't mind at all.... especially Catholics

This is meant to curtail religious excesses.
They are rewriting the to conform with today's ethics.
Some people are taking the literal interpretation of these books and acting on it forgetting that the period when those books were written is different from today.

I understand people who would frown on this but remember this is no different from the various versions of these books already written.

Extreme words and phrases need to be expunged or rephrased to improve understanding.

Sheybe since the crack down on Urghur Muslims Nigerian Christians have been cheering on the Chinese government. Now that China is going to rewrite the Quran and Bible let's wait and see who this affects most.

Thank God that for us Muslims memorising the Quran is common practice. And am sure this soon to be taken step will encourage the Muslims there to memorize the entire Quran
