Be very wise in Lagos

Lets Get Started

Do not go for Real Estate Inspection alone, this advice is for ladies in particular.

Do not rent a property close to the express way

Make sure you go with a friend possibly a male person to go with you for real estate inspection

Do not go to unfamiliar places alone.

Double check real estate agency background.

Do not pay rent to any agent

Insist to pay rent to Landlord or representative of land lord

In some cases insist on meeting the landlord

Do not pay rent for a property under renovation, even if you do pay during renovation collect the keys

Immediately after payment for rent, collect keys from agent

Immediately after payment collect receipt for apartment

Inspect Apartment location, go around and ask questions from people who live around the apartment

Nice one though, if you're paying let say constant rate of 500k per annum as rent, it means in 10years you must have pay 5m to your landlord.

2. Why can’t you rent a place close to the express way?
This is largely relative - because, in a place like lagos where you need to beat the traffic to work everyday, living close to the expressway is your best bet.

3. I quite agree with you that it is necessary to do a background check on the house before paying for rent. Some houses have huge amount of debts on Nepa bills etc.

Ensure you pay your rent when due. Every Landlord loves tenants that pays. Don't come with stories that your mother-in-law just kpeme, or business no move.

You have entire 1year to save the Landlord money. Put the landlord as your #1 priority and u won't have any problem.

Very important, maintain the house when u are given the keys.
