DarkPheonix:sorry for the late response sir. I like the fact that you know your weak points and you've identified and acknowledged it, hence, the willingness to improve abides. Sincerely speaking, my SSCE is worse than yours ( all C) and I'm in 400L now Unijos. 1. Catchment areas as regards admission into Nigerian universities has been abolished but implementation may be an issue. 2. Your determination to succeed at the forth coming UTME is achievable and I would advise you make I so. 3. I've always advised people come to the North for medical school and my reasons are a. Less competition form the western and Eastern states (I'm from the SE) b. Cost of living is cheap (arguable) c. No unnecessary demands from lecturer to buy any stuff eg books and so on. d. Fees are considerably cheap too. e. Admission process is quite transparent ( can't speak of BUK and ABU, both schools are good but in terms of admission, I can't say) f. Meeting with great minds form all over Nigeria. 4. Also look out for other schools with less competition with regards to people from your state.. 5. If u know people, use your contacts ooo, cuz it's important now. best bro |

Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by Alexaonfleek: 4:17pm On Dec 31, 2019 |
DarkPheonix:lol I'm not yet a boss I just started the journey ooo. When looking for a uni first look for a uni that barely or doesn't consider olevel.Your olevel isn't bad,and some seniors I know in med school aren't good at maths.Just that your olevel won't be enough of the school highly considers olevel. It also depends on financial ability. If you have money go for a private uni. There's uniosun too, which is your catchment area. If not go to UI or oau tho these are very competitive.I don't know much about universities in the north but there might be a good one there that would suit you. Aim for that 320 too,if u get it fine,if you don't still fine. I believe all these kind of things are by God's grace. We do the best we can do as humans and leave the rest for God. 1 Like |

JAMB WARNS VARSITIES AGAINST IRREGULAR ADMISSIONS The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said it had cautioned some universities offering admissions to candidates on their school portals, without following the guidelines on the Central Admission Processing System. The board stated this in a presentation by its Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, in Abuja, obtained by our correspondent. It listed the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; the University of Ibadan; and the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ogun State as examples. The board warned the universities to “desist from such illegitimate actions.” JAMB said it would not regularise the admission of such candidates not admitted through CAPS. The registrar said, “On the warehousing of candidates into school portal, JAMB has found out that some institutions have devised a method of offering admissions to candidates outside CAPS, on their own designated portals. The device is a ploy to lure innocent and more qualified candidates away from their preferred programmes. “These are tricks meant to usurp the rights of the candidates and they are improper and should be disregarded by the candidates. Such institutions are putting into jeopardy the future of these candidates. “We have the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, which has a quota of 200 for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. After admitting 106 candidates on CAPS, it released 448 on the UNN portal, whereas there are 342 qualified and not admitted on the CAPS.” It added, “Also for Law, it has a quota of 250 and admitted 125 candidates on CAPS, whereas it released another 240 names on the school portal. “We also have the case of one Hannat at the University of Ibadan, who applied for Human Nutrition but was transferred to Agricultural Extension. Her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination score was 242 and the post UTME was 72. She had an aggregate score of 66.25, but the university then admitted people below her. "We like to inform candidates that anyone who accepts any offer of admission made outside CAPS, that is, not on the JAMB’s candidates’ profile, does so at their own risk. There shall be no regularisation of any irregular admission. JAMB has given caution to the universities to immediately withdraw and desist from such illegitimate actions.” https://www.google.com/amp/s/punchng.com/jamb-warns-varsities-against-irregular-admissions/amp/ ©PUNCH |

Jerrypolo:Aheem, I'm not in the business of hyping university or debating why one is better than the other, so I'll just be point blank here. 1. Sokoto is north west, if I'm not too outdated unrest only is in northeast and that is kinda reducing, even UniMaiduguri that is In borno is calm. Sokoto is very peaceful and students of Udus are fond of saying it's the most peaceful uni in Nigeria. 2. 320 in utme will sail you in peacefully, this year udus cut off is 280 but apply first, that's when you'll know that 280 is audio cut off and top scorers from each state are those admitted. The only relaxation here is to Matrix students and indegenes. So with a score like 320, you can be rest assured to some extent. I've heard of people with 310, 305, etc that did not get admitted because there are people with higher scores from their state... More like the recent ABU brouhaha. 3. Criteria? Just Utme and Olevel. All admissions comes from the list school sent to jamb. But I heard they consider Local govt, male to female ratio, scores and states (merit, catchment, eld). After being admitted, there is a physical screening at the beginning of the session 4. There is no where Christian can't school in Nigeria. Sokoto may be an Islamic state but udus is a secular university, I know Christians in her mbbs programme and I don't think they do get sidelined. No one will persecute you for practicing your religion and there are Christians in sokoto. 5. I don't know how far Abuja is to Sokoto but it is not as far as coming from Lagos. Both Sokoto and Abuja are in the north. 6. Last session was 54,800 + 8000 for acceptance. It gets lower as you progresses. I pray they don't increase it. 7. All medical school are not simple to cross. Provided an institution is accredited, you can assume medical education should follow similar pattern. So if you're looking for an easy medical school then maybe not in Nigeria. There is no relative measurement for how easy or difficult med school are. They are all tasking. But udus is fast to a point. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Commmy: Med school in uniport?.. Well I guess what you mean by that is how Do they run their admission process since it looks like you're still an aspirant. Contary to a post I saw on this thread, Uniport has A very fair admission Procedure, From my knowledge it is very difficult to Wriggle your way in with cash or something of that sort. Uniport is unique because it's one of those few schools that Has Catchment areas all over the state, and admission is Not confined to any Geo-political region. According to My admission experience, Each states are alloted quotas Based on applicant population or something of that sort. The merit cut off mark is always friendly. Like for me, I scored 288 in the 2018 Utme and 36/50 which is 288/400 in the post Utme, and I was admitted in the first list, and people with lower scores than that also got admission in subsequent List. Uniport unlike other schools can release up to Four admission list, and the MCDN quota for medicine in uniport is About 150 though 40 of that number comes from the basic program. Uniport may not be the Best Medical school we got here in this part of the world, But We Pose a threat to Other schools and may feature in the Top 10.. The competition for medicine here ain't as great as other schools, but is great to an extent, And the cut off mark is very friendly. In UNN a combo of 288 in jamb and 288 in post Utme won't even get you med lab Sci, talk more of pharmacy or medicine, But it got me Merit list in uniport, so if it's about admission, so long as you can dig up some good scores you're good to go... And to better things Unlike schools in the West that considers O level result Grades before admission, uniport doesn't do that I would have told you about the school fees, but let me save that.. The koko nah the admission Bruh. I don't know about others, but from my Pure honest opinion, I think uniport Med school is the easiest Federal Med school to get into In the nation. Happy new year mani. 3 Likes 1 Share |
