cochtrane: I second this, Questrade is one of the few brokerage accounts that don’t charge you for buying funds, most charge about 10 bucks. My people please don’t just use your TFSAs as a savings account. Invest invest invest!!! If you’re not sure how to, read books, listen to podcasts.... 6 Likes 15 Shares |

hayor2014:This apartment is cheap oo, is this the average rate of apartments in calgary? or you reduced the price because you want to sublease |
Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by salford1: 2:18am On Jan 02, 2020 |
NaijaCanadian28:If my memory serves me right, the building looks like one of Calgary Housing apartments used for one of their housing programs. A friend of mind lived here in 2014. The location is likely on 2nd St SW. That is not the average rate of apartment in that condo. The cost of renting on one of those housing programs are usually lower than the market rates, if your yearly earning is lower than a particular fixed amount. They get renter's on a 1 yr lease term, which is subject to a yearly renewal that includes mandatory submission of renter's tax returns to check earnings for eligibility. Maybe hayor2014 is looking for someone to take over the lease. Those condos are nice and well taken care of. 8 Likes 2 Shares |

salford1: Salford1 is very correct,it's on 2nd Street, it's a Calgary housing company owned building , that's the reason for the below market rental price.. My friend who used it for just 6 months, got a job in Edmonton, hence the reason for renting it out. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Hello everyone. I haven't gotten PPR but I'm just curious. What would my 3 year old son be doing in Canada? School or Creche? What's the cost like too. Thanks in advance for your responses 1 Like |

Thecannylady:Your son will be in pre-school- you have to pay for this but as a new immigrant, you will most likely be eligible for subsidy. He will start proper school(kindergarten) at age 4. 4 Likes 2 Shares |
Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by NaijaCanadian28: 8:12am On Jan 02, 2020 |
Thecannylady:Daycare cost is dependent on the province, the older the child, the lesser the fees. Ontario is presently the most expensive, provinces like Quebec, Saskatchewan and Manitoba are kind of cheaper. Once your son starts school, you don’t have to pay but school closes 3:40pm(some provinces close 12 for the younger kids) and you have to pay for after school program in case you’re working and you have not closed work yet. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Good morning house! Glad to finally be on this thread and hope to join you all in our dream land soon. We submitted our passports about 2 weeks ago and expecting COPR soon. We are presently considering moving to Edmonton, Alberta in June, but have no family in Canada, so willing to change our minds to anywhere opportunities for advancement abound. Please landed seniors in the Medical Field (@vcole, @ekpekus, and all others), please can you assist with advice on Clinical and Non-clinical pathways to employment for IMGs to explore in Canada? Is there any pre-arrival program that may be helpful for Doctors? (I came across PASS for Nurses). Most of the info (regarding pathways for Doctors) on this thread are from 2017. I have also read from other threads of the challenges of getting back into practice even after Passing the Exams (due to limited Residency slots for IMGs). Please kindly assist with practical advice based on your experiences (and those of others you know). Information regarding alternative careers one can explore will also be appreciated. Thanks in advance for sharing and helping us make informed decisions. 6 Likes |
