Many Barcelona and Spanish supporters also hold this view, but apart from that, they also believe that the coach favours Spanish players over players of other nationalities.

Super Falcons’ new coach ready early next year, says Pinnick

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Amaju Pinnick has disclosed that the federation is working round the clock to employ a quality coach for the senior national women team (Super Falcons) early next year.

Speaking at the finals of the Oshoala Football Championship For Girls, which ended at the Campos Mini Stadium, Lagos yesterday, Pinnick, who expressed concern over the performance of the Super Falcons in recent times, said the federation was not in any way neglecting the women national teams at any level.

He also boasted that the body was on course to take Nigerian football to an enviable height in 2020.

While congratulating Asisat Oshoala for the large turn out of girls at the championship, Pinnick said the competition would help attract more girls to football in Nigeria.

“The NFF has been having series of meetings to discuss the way forward for our national teams,” he said.

“Top on the agenda is getting a new coach for the Super Falcons. With this on the pipeline, I can assure you that a credible coach will be appointed to the Super Falcons soon. The NFF is planning big for the female national team.

“On the Oshoala Football Championship, I must commend Oshoala for bringing up this beautiful idea to encourage the girl/child to play football.

“When she called me to attend the finals, I could not resist… out of my busy schedule I ensured that I attended the event.

“Playing a celebrity game alongside Super Eagles players like Odion Ighalo, Victor Osimhen, Omeruo, Awaziem and Asisat gives me joy.

“As the Oshoala Football Championship progresses, I believe it will attract more teams to participate in the female league. The NFF will not relent in supporting the development of Nigerian football in any capacity,” he said.

Super Falcons' Emuidzhi Oghiabekhva has been on fire for Minsk all season long and it has paid off. She has just been named the Belarusian Women's Premier League Best Player of the Year 2019. The speedster played like a woman among girls and banged in a mind-boggling 44 goals in 26 outings for her club.
For those not near a calculator that's an average of 1.70 goals per game and that stat puts her in a class with a very selected few. 10 of the goals were also against the best Europe had to offer as they were scored in seven Champions League games before Minsk bowed out to fellow Super Falcons' teammate Oshola's Barcelona in the Round of 16.
As if that was not enough, her tally consisted of
one game with seven goals, two with hat-tricks and five with braces. All of this helped Minsk to a domestic treble in 2019 and qualification for Women's Champions League as the country's sole representative next year.
The 29-year-old claimed the coveted award at the recently held Belarus Football Awards Gala organised by the Belarusian Football Federation.
She has now also been rewarded for all her good work with a contract extension which will keep her at Minsk till September 2020, much to the annoyance of both Arsenal and Madrid who had come snooping around hoping to land the service of the talented Nigerian.

Murray at Arsenal was just a mystery. There was a lot of talk about how well she was doing in training during her time at the club, but she did not make many first-team appearances.
It was hard to know how good she actually was and she left as much of an enigma as she had arrived after being signed by Shelley Kerr.

The Dutch defender had a good pedigree and had been quite successful with Bristol Academy before signing for Arsenal.
Obviously, a big name in the women’s football world, she did not produce much while at the club with limited game time and quickly returned to Holland.
Another player who did not show the best of her ability at Arsenal.

A World Cup winner with Japan but a top player who did not adapt to the game in England.
Ohno was a world class play-maker but seemed to struggle to adapt to the FA WSL as much as she struggled in the D1 Feminine while at Lyon.
She could have taken the play-making mantle when Kim Little left for Seattle but that, unfortunately, did not happen.

Another 2011 World Cup winner with Japan. Another top player who did not seem to adapt to the FA WSL and the club. It is another mystery as to why things did not work out for either Kinga or Ohno.
Kinga, who won the World Cup playing superbly at right-back, never played a competitive game in that position for Arsenal.
The only time I saw her played in the right position was during post-season friendlies in Japan when she was about to transfer back home.

Another player who came in with a big reputation and did not deliver often enough.
Luckily, she was sold to Dalian in China where she earned good wages.
There was a lot of hype around Oshoala after a successful FIFA u20 World Cup and she was nominated for numerous awards.
But things did not work out at Arsenal.
I don’t know if her playing style did not fit with what the club was looking for, but it seemed that she did not work hard enough at times.
I still remember Sunderland away where all the subs would have to do a few lengths post-match and she was clearly not interested in doing it properly, unlike the other players.
We certainly did not see the best of her during her stint.

Williams was supposed to be a top signing coming from Liverpool.
An experienced defensive midfielder, very strong technically, she was one of the top Lionesses players in her prime.
It really did work out at all.
Off-field issues were a distraction during her time at the club. There were also allegations she was giving a new signing, whose confidence looked shot during the Spring Series, a really hard time in training.
That player later turned out to be a superb signing once Williams left the club.
Williams’ time at Arsenal was a major disappointment and she was shipped to Reading when the club had to make a choice between Jemma Rose and her.
It led to the now infamous handshake incident between the two players at a Reading away game with Williams refusing to shake Rose’s hand.

Kanu is a prolific goal scorer who uses both feets effectively. I will say she have an edge over Oshoala been that she's very Skillful and Technical with both feets which is one thing most of them lack. Against Germany during the 2019 World Cup if you watched the game you could see how Skillful she is even during her U17 days!.

Don't get it twisted... KANU is not yet tested. When she gets to play professionally, we can debate that. For now, Oshoala is far above her; KANU is not even close to the level at which Ordega and Oparanozie operate (even as Ordega is a more mature player than Oshoala).

I just do not like it when people overhype players, without carrying out thorough research on them. If peradventure, such players are given a big part to play and they fail, they get attacked.

As for Oshoala, she is not yet where she ought to be and I seriously believe that the Chinese league she played in stalled her development, she should stay in Spain and grow. She's got so much potential that is yet to be properly harnessed.

I just hope the NFF will leave all these coaches that have proven to be failures and go for world class ones, and also support the Super falcons in every way possible.

Ebere Orji is so down the pecking order!

She has even more forwards to contend with, like INI umotong, Toni Payne, who is rumored to be discussed with by the NFF, and a few others.

Orji has not exactly done anything special to be noted. For one, she currently plays in the Swedish lower division, where she is not exactly painting the league with goals. Maybe when she gets to the top league and distinguishes herself, she she'd be taken more seriously.

Mind you i only said she's good technically with the ball at her feets!. Been a Skillful player who can get past her marker with her skill.

If you watch our players play regularly you will notice that Ngozi Okobi is the most Skillful player in the Superfalcons that i can confidently bet on that can get past three(3) players at once with her skills, pace alone can't do the job.....

Let's just wait for Uchenna Kanu to get a professional contract soonest, so we can watch her performance better!!!

LU soccer wins Southland tournament title

The potent forward combination of Lucy Ashworth and Esther Okoronkwo produced in the biggest moment of Lamar University women’s soccer season, leading the Lady Cardinals to a 3-1 victory over Northwestern State in the Southland Conference championship game on Sunday afternoon in Conway, Arkansas.
Ashworth gave Lamar the lead with a goal in the 32nd minute, then Okoronkwo scored twice early in the second half to secure the tournament title. The win means Lamar has won the Southland regular season title and tournament championship for the second time in three years.
Lamar (16-6, 10-1) now enters the NCAA postseason on an 11-game winning streak. The Lady Cardinals outscored opponents 14-4 in their three conference tournament games combined.
“This feels amazing,” Lamar head coach Steve Holeman said in a release after the win on Sunday. “Because of the adversity we faced and the 1-5 start just makes it that much better. These ladies continued to work and march on and we just continued to take it one game at a time. I’m really proud of how they stuck with the process - game in and game out they continued to believe in what we’re doing.”
The second-seeded Demons (13-8-1, 8-2-1) were the only Southland team to beat Lamar during the regular season. That was a one-goal Lamar loss in late September.
The rematch, however, was controlled by the Lady Cardinals throughout. Lamar freshman keep Erin Branch kept a clean sheet until the 67th minute, when Northwestern State sophomore Nicole Henry scored the Demons’ only goal of the game.
Branch would finish with three saves for Lamar. Okoronkwo was named as the tournament’s most valuable player.
Lamar will find out its first-round opponent on Monday during the NCAA selection show at 3:30 p.m.

JOY JEGEDE RETIRES FROM FOOTBALL

Overtime, people have often been judged based on their actions, track records or legacies. No doubt these are some of the factors that separate successful people from the never do well and justify the belief that leaders are not born but made.

The road to success and the road to failure are almost the same and success comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it.

No wonder the woman, Jegede Joy Imwonghomwen, having fore-sight chooses the road to success as she was busy looking for it.

Born on the 16th of December, 1991, in Benin City, Jegede Joy Imwonghomwen, started showing from a tender age that she will be a successful player.

PLAYING CAREER

Joy started playing football very early in life for Noiva Babes from 1999 to 2002 and won three trophies with the team.

Not done with the success she had with Noiva Babes, she went on to play for Pelican Stars from 2003 to 2004, where she won two trophies with the team. Joy had a blissful career as a footballer and in 2013, played for FC Bobruichanka in Belarus.

As a woman of many parts who loves to succeed in anything she does and also want to put smiles on the faces of her fans, which according to her gives her joy, in 2005 this towering, no nonsense defender joined Delta Queens Football Club and won nine trophies and left in 2017.

Not done with the successes she had with Delta Queens FC, Joy craved for more success and moved to Bayelsa Queens Football Club, where she also won three trophies (the 2018 NWPL title, the maiden edition of the NWPL Champions Shield and Queens Consult pre-season tournament in Akure, the Ondo State Capital).

HONOURS
Jegede Joy Imwonghomwen, was capped forty-four times, wearing the Green and White jersey of Nigeria. Joy Jegede was likened to Uche Okechukwu (the Gentle Giant), because of her size and height (1.72m).

She had so many honours playing for the national team. She was in the Nigeria Women's U-20 team to the FIFA Women's World Cup in Chile 2008 and in 2010, she captained the team in Germany, where they came second.

In 2012, Joy was in Nigeria Women's Senior National team to the African Women Championship in Equatorial Guinea. She was in the Super Falcons team to the All African Games in Congo Brazzaville, in 2015.

This astute player captained the Super Falcons Team B to the WAFU Tournament in Abidjan, Cote d' Voire, and the team finished in third position.

Jegede Joy Imwonghomwen, is a quintessential player, who have excelled more than her peers and whatsoever she set her mind to do she achieved.

To cap her illustrious playing career, this defense ace has completed a three month coaching course as she wants to give back to the game that brought her fame and fortune.

There is a saying: 'You quit when the ovation is loudest', and that was exactly what JEGEDE JOY IMWONGHOMWEN, has done as she has quit the beautiful game of football voluntary.

No doubt, Joy will be missed. And as she takes another challenge in life, one can only wish her well.
