When Oshiomole decided to become the governor of Edo state a few years ago, he knew that he had some battles to fight. He told us that he would step on toes and uproot godfathers. The godfather in Edo state was the late Chief Anthony Anenih. On becoming the governor he announced to us that he had retired Anenih and other godfathers. He further said that godfatherism had become history in Edo state.

That was a smokescreen because he embarked on the journey of making himself the godfather of Edo politics

In achieving his desired goal, he had foot soldiers, some of whom were Obaseki and Shuaibu. Oshiomole forgot that "what goes around comes around". He taught them how to uproot godfathers and assert themselves.

He empowered them and gave them the right weapons. Today they have turned the weapons against Oshiomole.

Will this lead to the removal of Oshiomole's political structures in Edo state? I am waiting to see.

The Forum of State Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress has tasked the recently constituted National Reconciliation Committee to come up with an action plan to resolve the lingering crisis in the party.

The chairmen urged the committee headed by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, to set for work and ignore the camp of the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, which had raised objection to the membership of the committee.

They said Edo as the only one out of the 36 states and Abuja, should not be allowed to frustrate peace efforts in the party since it was not ready for external mediators.

The APC National Working Committee had on December 18 raised a 10-member committee headed by Lawan to resolve the lingering crisis in the party.

The arrangement was in line with the November 22, 2019 resolution of the party’s National Executive Committee.

The NEC had empowered the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to constitute the committee.

The First (Interim) APC National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, was appointed to serve as the Vice-Chairman with the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Wase, and the immediate past Nasarawa governor, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, as members.

Other members are, Senator Kashim Shettima, Minister of State for Environment, Sharon Ikeazor; Alhaji Nasiru Aliko Koki; Senator Khairat Gwadabe-Abdulrazak; Senator Binta Garba and Senator John Enoh as Secretary.

Obaseki had opposed the committee, saying it contained interested parties in the dispute.

The camp of the governor and loyalists of the National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, have been battling for the control of the party in the state with 14 lawmakers of the Edo State House of Assembly yet to be inaugurated.

The governor had earlier rejected the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje-led five-member Fact-finding Committee, raised in November on the crisis rocking the Edo APC.

Speaking with our correspondent on Wednesday, the Secretary of the Forum of APC chairmen, Dr Ben Nwoye, said the committee was in the interest of the party.

Nwoye, who is also the chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the APC, commended the Oshiomhole-led NWC for working towards achieving peace in the party.

He said, “The formation of the National Reconciliation Committee is a welcome development.

“It is consistent with the resolution of the National Executive Committee.

“It is also an indication of clear intention by the NWC to reconcile all aggrieved members of our great party,” he said.

Nwoye said the party had shown sincerity of purpose to resolve lingering crisis by raising the committee.

He said, “The committee members are patriotic Nigerians with diverse backgrounds and experiences.

“They will certainly achieve the desired objectives notwithstanding the dissenting opinion of few aggrieved members.

“As the saying goes, in democracy ‘majority will have their way while minority will have their say.’

“So, we expect the Senator Lawan-led committee to come up with an action plan to resolve most of the internal conflicts bedevilling the party.

“Edo is one state out of 36 states. There is one form of crisis or the other in all the other states of the federation.

“So, I’m sure that Edo State would not expect the other 35 states and Abuja to set aside their desire for peaceful resolution of all crises because Edo is not ready to allow external mediators to assist them in resolving their internal crisis.

The major problem with Nigerian politicians is that they live their lives and still want to live other people's lives. Obaseki, you need Oshiomole to win Edo State. If you are smart, make peace with him, win and retire him. If the APC high command does not support you, forget being a governor.

You obviously do not have the influence of a Wike to get the governors on your side to win elections. You are also not a heavyweight in South-South politics, because if you were, Oshiomole would have been removed. Yes, the governors are the most powerful bloc in the party, but you don't have their ears.

are you in EDO? if yes simply list obaseki's achievement and I will list what oshiomhole achieved in just 1 year in office,i laughed out loud when you said he doesn't want to share money, but he's busy sharing billions of EDO money with fayemi and El rufail and other state governors just to unseat oshiomhole.

He actually has the ears of some Governors, but unfortunately for these Governors, they don't control APC Excos in States governed by PDP. These states are funded by ..... grin and are loyal to Oshiomole. 2023 will be very interesting. Some Governors will just realize their influence is limited to states they govern.

If you read my past comments, I advised Oshiomole to retire now that the ovation is very loud. So long as Oshiomole would play a role in deciding the delegates, Obaseki would have a herculean task getting the ticket. Say what you may about Oshiomole, he hardly lost battles in his professional life.

My submission is for Obaseki to placate the big bear in Edo politics, secure the ticket, win and retire him. This is how Oshiomole retired Anenih and Igbinedion Snr from Edo politics. So for you too, understand the game and play it because there is a limit to online thuggery.

Who was Philip Sharibu and Obaseki in Edo state politics then?
Who were they?
They were unknown entities.
Even Philip Shauibu you called Oshiomole's foot soldier was just an appendage or at best a political stooge with no known political relevance in Edo north(where I am from).
Oshiomole had an antecdenet as a labour president at that time and trying to make it sound as if Anthony Aninieh has anything to do with is coming to power is trying to be clever by half.

You guys should stop using Nairaland as a pedestal for concocting lies.

I am not supporting anyone in particular in all these, but I think Obaseki is just crying foul when there is none and has truly bitten more than he can chew.
Just watch it, as they say in our local parlance :the future is pregnant.

I agree to an extent with what you have said, but comparing Oshiomole to Aninieh and Igebenedion Snr does not cut it for me. Oshiomole is different breed of politician.
Since his days as labour president we are yet to see is kind.
What Oshiomole brings to the table is entirely different and this is what I see.
As it is now, Obaseki seems to be having his way, but when the D day comes we shall know who has what it takes to go the distance.

What this politicians who just grab hold of power is that they don't stoop to conquer.
And I feel. this is going to be Obaseki's greatest undoing.

He has offended too many persons and those backing him don't really know what they are doing.
