cashful:

Very lovely thread, i remember the commentator on FRCN describing Andrew Uweh as the tallest man on the pitch but always heading the lowest balls and Sam Pam the shortest man on the pitch but always gets to head the tallest balls,

1) The commentator in question is Late Earnest okonkwo of blessed memory

2) i believe you intend to refer to John Benson NOT Sam Pam

abacus:

I don't mean to re-awaken this thread again , but after I went through the thread from page to last (I cant afford to miss any), I can't imagine me not 'putting mouth', because I tried small for Nigeria league, though very young then, I used to support JULIUS BERGER aka Adewale bridge boys.
Those days, I always sneak out to watch Berger matches @ Onikan, snake Island, Berger yard(training) etc then (all Lagos).

My Key players

Wilson Oboh (Player maker)
Sunday Ilevbare
Taiwo Oloyede
Bawa Abdullai
Ambrose Duru
Joseph Dosu
Ndubuisi Egbo - Personally, I like him
Amir Angwe RIP
Seyi Olajengbesi
James Enaguna 68
Ganiyu Ajide
Ochuko
Moussa Latoundji our top 9, later got to know he's from Benin
Segun Abiodun - I like his style
Agbonifo Aikhobare I learnt his elder brother played for Berger, he was brought in from Benin city, He's deadly, he sometimes dye his hair, where he's self cos he too young to fade
Agbonifo Aikhuobare RIP - Agbonifo Aikhobare's elder brother , trying to recollect what happened to him really, he was killed by either robbers or police in Benin on one night, i think he went partying, on his way back, he was shot.

Players from Other clubs
Victor Skinn Nepa FC
Henry Onwuzuruike Nepa
Oye Nepa (Cant recollect his real names)
Dotun Alatishe Suting
Paul Oruma - cant recollect the name of the club, the club is a River state fc, Oboh also played there after he left Berger
Seyi Ogunsanya - Flaming stores
Collins Ebtimi - Flaming Stores
Emmanuel Olisadebe - Eyimba FC,
Bunmi Adigun

I used to encouraged the football field then after full match, you know that kind thing, I will be able to see the lads one on one , and eavesdrop to their discussions and will take that to my friends to boast of my close relationship with the players. I once did that on Emmanuel Olisadebe, not too long after that he left for Poland and the rest is history.

Really, I want our football to go back to those days, I want to go stadium every match day. I want to share my Chelsea fc support with another club in Nigeria. Please, don't ask what about Berger. LOL.

In Onikan stadium, on every match day, we have these area boys from Isale eko (Lagos Island), they won't come in time, when it's about 5 minutes to kickoff, they will come in numbers, they come with different weapons, they disorganized the queue, chase everybody away as distant as Bonny camp. This is fun, we really fear them, mere seeing them coming, we fled, sometimes we ended up watching the match from the bridge.

I STILL WANT TO SEE THESE HAPPENING, GOD BRING OUR LEAGUE BACK TO THOSE DAYS, I WANT CHELSEA BE MY SECOD BEST CLUB. AMIN.

good list man

Wow, this thread still available. The first thread I posted on when I first came to Nairaland.

Anyone know the where about of Gabriel Okolosieme who played with Asec mimosa In Ivory Coast? I think he was part of the 1994 team. Almost played for the Ivoriens as well.

1st picture
tunde disu, alloy agu let me see

2nd picture(flying eagles 83 set i believe)
i could pick alloy agu, Samson Siasia n Andrew Uweh plz confirm

i think is the same set
Re: Forgotten Players In Nigerian Soccer by aswani(m): 1:11pm On Jun 16, 2011
They look like the same set of flying eagles teams from the 80’s.

The first one I think has Moday Odiaka (not sure), Ladi babalola, Osaro Obabaifo (RIP), Siasia and Adeolu Adekola, Wasiu Ipaye standing 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7 away from Coach Disu respectively.

The second one has:

Andrew Uweh as captain kneeling extreme left
Osaro Obabaifo (RIP) – kneeling 2nd left
Waidi Akanni – standing 5th left
Austine (can’t remember his surname, a Benin midfielder that played for NNB) – kneeling 6th right

Not sure about:
Kingsley Onye standing 3nd right
Wasiu Ipaye – kneeling 3rd left
This must be the team that went to Chile, the same one that got beaten up in Ethiopia after their second leg.

Where is ma man Benjamin Fajeku? I was a big fan of that player. He was doing it with style till Okocha arrived and swept everybody off their feet. How about Christopher Oparanozie? Broke Moses Kpakors leg at Owerri and BCC boys went berseck that evening. Only God knows what would have happened if the game was played at Makurdi. Bethel Orji, Onyemachara etc. Lots of Ghanian and Sierra Loenean imports at Iwuanyanwu National those days. Pretty football.
