Bro, my own personal decision is that NO HP for Nigerian used cars. The car was probably bought toks and even used further in Nigeria before you now take it up for HP. Before you pay up for it after 2 years, how long more would u enjoy the ride?

My school of thought might be wrong though.

It me your guy please I need you good advice.

Take for instance you’ve an offer to take an HP on a 9ja used Camry (big daddy), 05. Investor spent 1.3m and needs 2.3m in 2yrs.
Do you think it’s a fair deal for driver? Or how much should be reasonable for this Nigeria used car?

Or would you rather investor get a direct tokunbo and everything falls within 1.6m how much would be fair as return in this condition?

Urgent response pls.

Thanks all

Seriously, do some people fight riders for not replying to their greetings?

izzou:

NOW, LET ME TALK ABOUT ME, "ÏŽŹÖÙ, AN UBER DRIVER

I switch on my app, and a request enters

Me:Hello, good morning. It's the uber you ordered
Rider: Oga where are you? Follow your map immediately. I'm waiting
Me: Sir/Ma, at least you should respond to my greetings before dishing out orders
Rider: I don't have time for this. Okay Good morning sir. Be fast Abeg. I'm late
Me: I am not the cause of your lateness. If you can't talk calmly to me, please just cancel. Don't pour your frustration on me
Rider: You are crazy.
Me: Thunder fire you

**********************************************

Phone beeps, I accept. We meet and start the journey

Rider: Please speed a little, I'm late
Me: Madam, please don't tell me what to do. If you are not comfortable with my speed, I'll end the trip
Rider: What's wrong with you?
Me: Nothing is wrong with me.(I park and end trip)
Me: I have ended the trip. Get out of my car abeg

*************************************************

While on a trip,....

Rider: Please I'd like to pick my clothes at the dry cleaners
Me: Madam, I don't do stopovers. I can't wait more than 5 minutes if I do
Rider: Oga, you know it will definitely take more than 5 minutes. I won't be long. Max is 15 minutes
Me: Sir, I can't stay 15 minutes, unless you'll pay for my time
Rider: But the app is still running Na?
Me: It's either I end it, or I take you to your destination

************************************************

I drop a rider. After 5 minutes. Rider calls

Rider: Hello, please I left a diary in your car. Did you see it
Me: Check and sees it. No, I didn't see it. It's not in my car
Rider: Oh God, please incase you see it, just let me know abeg
Me:Okay ma

Yimu. Rubbish eediot.

I see a LAWMA truck in traffic and fling the diary there. Nonsense
**************************************************

I could go on and on, but this is how I run my day.

I don't have time for riders without manners. After all, I have manners, so every one must have them

I won't do stopovers for more than 5 minutes. It cheating to me(But I can leave my engine and AC running in a standstill traffic for 2 hours and that's not cheating). If you won't pay for waiting after 5 minutes, I'm not waiting

For every word you say to me, I must respond. I own my car and how much do you want to pay sef, that you're feeling like and oga?. If you speak harshly to me, I must insult you, and end the trip.
Their fada angry

I don't return items. I don't have that strength. If I see anything, I throw it away. After all, these riders will never pay. After my first bad experience, I swore never to return any item. Even if I see a Rolls Royce Wraith key in my car, I'm flinging it outta my window

This is me, and this is how I survive everyday

Anyone should use his discretion to accept stopover or not. I can accept it on some days and can also reject it on another day. Alot of factors come to play.
You can't continue to accept all stopovers becuase people say it is bad to reject it.

We have individual's daily targets.

What I dont subscribe to is to be rude to riders becuase you want to reject trips. A simple "I'm sorry sir/ma, I may not be able to continue with this trip if you're going to delay me beyond xmins or if we're going to be stoping over frequently. It affects my daily targets"

You can even order a violent rider out of your car without raisng your voice.

Let no one blackmail you into accepting all stopovers, especially from riders with self entitlements

Even bike men have limits to how long they can wait for you.. No bike men will carry u to market and wait for you to buy from one shop to another unless you pay him specially for that.

This is hustle and not a charity service.

Most Nigerian used cars have been abused and such cars will not guarantee a smooth sail in the business so using them for HP is a big NO and a tiny yes. If you get a sound mechanic to examine it and you're rest assured car is still in good condition then go for it but don't go beyond 2m. Anything above 2m HP for a Nigerian used car is slavery.. cheating.. riding.. opressing.. you can add your own grin

Thats the conclusion of the matter. But saying a rider shouldn't think of asking for stopovers is not realistic.

Let me tell you two experiences I've had with stopovers: a good and a bad one

THE BAD

Picked this lady from Lekki. She was heading to VI(short trip). She told me she will stop at the Palms to pick up something. I asked how long.Aunty said 20 minutes

This was around 8:30am. I did night that day, so that was like my last trip before I go house.

Na so I reach there. She took the token and went. I fall chair sleep. Woke up over 45 minutes later, she never come out. Called her and she said she's coming out. She came out after 15 minutes (1 hour in total). Dropped her off. She paid and went. No extra money cry

********************************

THE GOOD

Picked a woman going to the airport from Lekki. As we climb 3MB, she said I should drop her at Magodo that she wants to say hi to a Friend.

When we got to Magodo, she suggested if I'll wait for her. That she will spend 30 minutes.

Haaa angry. I thought about it. I could end this trip and in the next 30 minutes, I will still be roaming up and down, or I could just sacrifice it and take her to the airport.

I agreed. She said I shouldn't end it, and went in

Before 10 minutes, Madam came out with her friend, hugged and asked me to proceed.

I reach airport, end trip. She paid and added extra 3k for my waiting
*******************************

My point is:

1)Use your discretion.

2)For every bad rider, there is a good one. People who come here to tell you about how riders wasted their time on stopovers may not share their stories of when they enjoyed benefits from stopovers. Bad stories get more attention

3) Be polite about rejections. Everyone knows it's your car. Whether the rider begs or command you, the name on the particulars won't change. Let there be a difference between an uber driver and a Volkswagen LT driver.

We can still survive and make profit without being uncouth

You've said it all.

There are bad riders/drivers & good ones.

I'm most likely to accept stopover, I'm that nice grin, I can refuse on another day, depends on mood and some factors. But I will never be rude while rejecting your trips.

On another note, Fellas, for God's sake, let's not start throwing forgotten items away. Please.

Everyone has one bad experience or the other, dont develop your opinion and decision on bad ones.

Please, always return items to uber office or ask owner to order for trip to get it back if u can't take it back.

May our lives not be thrown into ocean

Lol

The trip will not be #3000 on any app, unless there is surge. I have done Festac to Yaba many times and it ends at 2k plus with commission.
3k was a very fair deal for someone residing in Festac.

But then, the thread is transforming. He got bashed for making an offer. Even now, we cheer ourselves up when a driver is rude to rider unnecessarily.

The conditional “if driver was staying in Festac” just came in. U dig?

The driver wasn't supposed to come from Ayobo

He put the location and destination. It was for whoever would be around there at a particular time.

When you take care of the little things, the bigger ones will take care of themselves or it might not even escalate to the bigger ones.

Uber/Bolt suppose to dey pay for the fare to return rider's items or make them share the fare with the rider, or make the rider pay the fare. To say make Driver carry the cross is a NO NO for me.

Abi now... nor be driver fault say rider forget sometin.

*Yawns* This soji wey nor dey just make me dey lazy to go out go work. Completed three trips today, all join together no reach 1500.

Nice write up bro. Thanks for the info. Yesterday I took a rider from Ikoyi to jakande 1st gate and she asked me to wait let her quickly rush up to drop her items and that I should take her to cadogan in jakande. While she came down I checked the fare it was 2k, she spent about 10minutes and when we started moving I checked again the same 2k, we got to her destination and I ended the trip still 2k. I told her that I have to do review. I did review and put 2500 uptill now it is still on review. However, I she gave me 2,200 that whatever it is I should call her. I was really angry. Same yesterday, in the afternoon I took a guy from karimu kotun vi to eko hotel to change money, from eko hotel to the palms and waited for him 15minutes then to friends colony in jakande to pick up something and from there to his final destination inside jakande when I ended the trip I saw 2,300 I was mad!!!

In such situation. Try to always update destination on your app if riders won't or can't from their own end. Make sure you have a good network too. Cheers

Saka isn't the solution. You should have asked for what could have caused it and the solution.
You would even wait endlessly because no one would grant your saka request.

It could be your phone, infinix and tecno brands arent recommmended.
Someone has also given you advice to always update your destination in such situation.

Good luck to you in your hustle and may you not work in vain.

Instead of embarrassment from anyhow riders, there’s option to just buy vouchers which they accept at the Lekki ikoyi link bridge. Attachment below. I bought 10 which is 3k. Due to slow systems in getting etags

Doesn’t this defeat the purpose?
They might as well keep collecting cash.

You do yourself a disservice when you check price of a trip before the trip actually ends. In most cases, if you don’t change destination in the app, the price would remain the same.

Does it mean bolt is fixing its price and the price wont change irrespective of paths taken and KMs covered to reach the destination?

There are various cars good for this business; ranging from popular options like Hyundai, Toyota Corolla, camry (Big daddy), honda civic, someone even uses benz c230.

But the popular sentiment is that corolla is the best for this business interms of fuel economy, cost of maintenance and strength but there is another school of thought driven by dru23 that honda civic is a better option than corolla with the claim that it is more fuel efficient than corolla, less cost of maintenance, better interior and even comes cheaper than corolla.
With civic, it is quicker to recoup your investment than corolla because it is less expensive.

So in essence, you may narrow your optons to corolla, civic and seek more advices on these brands as regards to ehailing

Less I forget, Uber accepts 2000 upward while bolt accepts from 2003 upward. You may consider nothing less than 2003 brand so that your car is accepted across all platforms.

For your car registration on uber, you need

1. Valid insurance docs
2. Lagos state road worthiness.
3. Vehicle inspection report from the center accredited by any of these ehailing platforms.

In terms of investment, you can either take the rental or hire purchase options.

I think I've tried a bit.

BTW, I need a car for rental.

Good luck.

Personal experience and app notification.

I once had a rider who was low on cash and he asked me to check trip price if it’s reached his budget, I obliged. 5 minutes later, he made the same request, I obliged again. Immediately after the 2nd price check, I got a notification on the app that the trip price won’t be updated except I changed destination. I did, but the price at the end of the journey was ridiculous. I complained to UBER, a review was done and I was paid accordingly.

Also picked up some riders from EKO Hotel to Eko Atlantic. Short distance, got there and ended the trip only for riders to change their minds about destination. Proceeded to the new destination and price didn’t change even though trip was on 1.5 surge.

Let me derail a little tongue

*************************************************
OBSERVATIONS
1) You didn't greet him when you called him. He didn't even care, and he did not remind you about manners. After all, manners won't pay his bills. He showed up

2)You were directing him, and he obeyed you. Even against his will, he did it. He did not remind you that he owns his bike and you should just keep quiet. No, he knows why he's on the road

3)You stopped at an ATM. He parked. He didn't think you cheated him. After all, you want to withdraw. He applied his understanding and waited

4)You asked him to look for change. He didn't remind you that his bike is over 200k and that he can't leave it because of #200. He looked for the change, you didn't thank him and he didn't care.

This is what an average okada man(probably not educated) will face and how he will most likely react everyday

Your observations are right, but the fact is these set of okada riders also make bad uber riders. Someone that won't treat an okada man well will not treat an uber driver right. I will use myself as an example, before I enter any okada, if I have an amount that will involve looking for change I must inform the okada man, until I get to see anyone with it. & whenever I do stopover, I must surely compensate the okada man for it, no matter how little. Truth is we Nigerians naturally have this habit of taking good people for granted. The average uber driver is more enlightened & can easily caution anyone who trample on his right, reason we are experiencing this constant confrontation between drivers & riders. Even if every driver is a saint, some riders will still bring out that devilish part in u, same also apply to drivers. Not until everyone learn to do the right thing, I am afraid it is going to continue like this.
But unfortunately no one is willing to do the right thing in this country...so here we are

Well, if it's Uber once you check price and the person is on promo the rider will need to update the trip before it will start reading again.
But you can only check price if it's a cash trip.

As for bolt, the updated app one misbehaves sometimes all it needs is just for you to check fare boom it's giving you wahala. It wasn't like that before the season or before they introduced the updated app.

Let me share my own experience on stopovers.

I drive in Abuja...

I got a request from transcop to national assembly ( short trip) it was card trip....we got there. As I stopped I ended the trip.. rider asked me why I ended the trip...explained we have gotten to destination. He was like we would have updated it. Requested again and it came to me. We continued. After like 3 stops. I gently explained to rider that the stops overs would not pay me for the day cos I need cash urgently that day. He wanted to change face I didn't bother. ..I only explained to him that though the money would still come to me following week but would affect my target for that day...he just laughed and said I like money. ..we laughed over it.. we ended the trip and continues with offline...I was with him for like 6hrs and he paid me well for the offline... according to him ..he did that cos I gently explained to him I needed cash ( physical cash) on that day.

For me it on depends on scenerio, manner of approach from driver and how the rider responds.

In any way. We drivers should not be rude to all riders because of one bad experience.

LET ME SHARE ANOTHER BAD EXPERIENCE.

when I was a newbie in the hustle. I got a request in wuse market ( for those that drive in Abuja) ..I was stuck in traffic. Rider started yelling on the phone. I was just explaining I was in traffic. As I tried to find my way out of the traffic..I was arrested by police cos I made a wrong turn...bribed them with 3k ..he was just calling me....I finally got to wuse market...parked in front...as rider entered...naso touts follow enter....we started begging....within five minutes my rider just abandoned me and said it's my problem not his....I was shocked. ..I had to withdraw from my account to bribe touts ...

My conclusion...there are bad riders and good one...there are ones that will understand and stupid ones....

As driver ..we should not be quick to be rude to riders even if they are stupid....we can still politely dish them

Please where is the road to this Saka Tinubu sef? Which number? Tired of the way these companies treat us. Imagine the trip I had this evening taking Lekki Ikoyi bridge. After trip,
toll fare no show. Rider paid and left. I asked for review, that one came toll fare showed. Rider refused to pay when I called.
I can count on and on like that.

There are more bad riders than the good ones. In fact may be just 2 percent are good.
