I've been reading a lot of comments on here about China being an ally of Iran and how they'll come to the rescue of Iran if the tension in the middle East escalates to war.

Last night I was watching CGTN and the anchor was engaging experts from Iraq, Iran and USA, they were all sharing their views, then the Iranian Political Commentator was raving about how their "ally" China will engage USA if war brakes out.

The anchor (a Chinese guy ) immediately corrected him that China is NOT an ally of Iran, the Iranian guy immediately took correction and changed his statement to "ally of peace"

DUBAI/MOSCOW (Reuters) - Iran, China and Russia began joint naval drills on Friday in the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Oman, in what Moscow said was an unprecedented exercise in naval cooperation and training.

Waters around Iran have become a focus for international tensions, with the United States exerting pressure for Iranian crude oil sales and other trade ties to be cut off.

“The message of this exercise is peace, friendship and lasting security through cooperation and unity... and its result will be to show that Iran cannot be isolated,” Iranian flotilla admiral Gholamreza Tahani said on state television.

Military ally is what is meant. They could have defence pacts.

Iran and France are friends. Khomeini was living in France during before launching the 1979 Islamic revolution that toppled the Iranian monarchy.
The French could sell some lethal weapons to the Iranians.

Economic agreements and disagreements has nothing to do with political, regional, global and military alliance. China is not in any kind of alliance beyond economic

China won't join the US in any military or political action against Iran.

China will veto any US sponsored UN security council action against Iran like they've done so many times.

China and Iran just concluded Naval drills in the Persian gulf, a very loud signal and warning that China is on the side of Iran.
