How to start a business in Africa without a dine: money sense for young entrepreneurs!

Let's me throw my personal story before I kick start. In April 2017, this was the time of intentional entrepreneurial work! Or should I add that circumstances abandon me to entrepreneurship. I wanted freedom. I wanted to be able to carry out my social project without obstruction. I wanted to be responsible for my own path. I was tired of suffering and smiling. Buhari government did push me. You know, your intention in entrepreneurship would determine the kind of results you produce. So same 2017, I registered my business. I was crazily too young for business lols as said by the CAC personnel that handed me my registration certificate. So today my brand Emperovial is two years old now and I started it without having a dine.

We have provided digital business consultancy for over 150 entrepreneur so far. And our progress have made me attend distinguished conferences and have about 50 speaking gigs last year. I'm surprised at how popular the name is now, but it shows I made a difference! I never scammed anyone neither cheated! I earned with my creativity! I've not arrived yet, but everyone that knew me knows I've made enviable progress at least for my age. So two things I want you to note are intention and value are the keys to earning!

So according to my experience, here are the seven ways to start a business without having a dine. Who is interested in knowing this:

1. Have an idea.

This is the first thing that will bring you into business! I knew I could help students pay school bills online and they could pay me for it. I knew that I could easily get students because I'm a friendly person and I got no enemy. Sometimes, ideas require some inspiration! But I needed a laptop, internet connection to start online processing! I never had any then. Results been my thing, I would use my schools E-library for a token or result to cyber cafe. After several months, my elder brother gave me the freedom to use his laptop, this made things easy for me.

The other 6 points to be continued later. (Who is ready for them?)

2. Think towards skills! What skill you learn.. Content writing... Virtual Assistance... Public speaking... Welding... Event management... Painting.. Decoration.. Make up art... Tailoring... Catering. There ate lots of skills to learn.

How much can you earn with that skill! Identify 20 of your friends/family that may need this skill service... Pitch to them about it.. At least, you'll have 20 clients already waiting for you when you've this skill.

(Who is ready for the next)

2. Think towards skills!

I started my brand, Emperovial without having a dine. I easily leveraged on free traffic from Nairaland and my personal Facebook profile to sell the digital products I created. Within 6 months, I was able to sell to 100 entrepreneurs!

So the question is, what skill do you currently have? How can you use it to meet your money needs for that budding business idea you have. Skills like content writing, virtual Assistance, public speaking, welding, event management, painting, decoration, make up art, tailoring, catering etc can be a life changer for you.

So how much can you earn with that skill and how can you easily get patronage with it? Simply identify 20 of your friends/family that may need the service of this skills! Identify how much they currently pay for the service of this skills. Pitch to them about what you can do for them. Offer them at least 20% discount. If they're truly your friends/family members that want your good in this Buhari economy , they'll patronize you. So you get to start business with at least 20 ready clients. Go try this and shoot me testimonial.

3. Think towards services

Some of us can cook so nicely, wash cars and cloths nicely unlike me that is not domestic I struggle doing this things well sha. These domestic service is highly needed by professional and working class person. Think towards service. Swallow your pride. Legit hustle pays. You can start a laundry, car wash, cooking business. Advertise to your friends and community first.
Start small. You may come to their house to wash cars first. In my neighborhood, the pay is around N4k-6k/car. Help busy people clean their homes or shop for a fee. Remember, you can start with your friends and family. Mvany busy working class married woman will pay handsomely for this service.

The service doesn't have to be domestic. It can be professional too. All you have to just do is to leverage on your immediate network to get patronage.

4. Take on initiatives! The wonderful thing about Africa, is that almost everyone knows what to do to earn money but fear of failing has not allowed many! Some our ladies know that they've a wonderful voice and can easily persuade people to do what they want, rather than win boyfriends or sugar daddy with it, you can drive sales with it for businesses. It can be used as for customer care service, creating voice over service, podcast and warm/cold calling. For many young men, your dangerous toasting lines can be used creatively for copy writing services. You get to draw sales for business via persuasion. Even if you're too busy, you can still do this. You just need pitch to business dudes about this. Ask them for the list of their prospect or debtors. Your duty is to follow them up and earn a certain sum as any client pay or you simply offer a full gig!

I earned over 70k one time for this service. I have a wonderful voice, I kid you not lol. I talked so good on phone or you can call me the chief closer ‍⚕‍⚕‍⚕. At least several of my female admirers have confessed to it. I helped cold call three of my client debtors and prospects. Spoke to over 20 of them in my usual caring manner. The debtors did pay up within 2 weeks and 50% of the prospect transacted. That was about 1.2 Million naira for my clients. They cumulatively gifted me 70k for that awesome service. I believe some girls can do this better than me but they must have be very knowledgeably in business and should I say add, professional and ethical. So initiatives is the way to go! Think of initiatives in the line of value for value. What valuable thing can you do for people and what value in cash can they pay.

The goal is for you to think of legit stuff you can do! I'm not talking about gambling or prostitution or drugs... Its a lazy and self killer business. You can help people buy thinks cheaper online or simply help them shop, make sure you collect your fee very important. You can act as delivery agents for Ecommerce clients. One of my dude earns 10k averagely daily from this. You can think towards transportation. Just do something legit. You can start small and grow big. You can start big and grow big but you must have first served big persons in that industry very well.

(Number 5-7, coming out soon. Stay tuned).

Precious Azuonwu (Emperovial)! Make sure you take actions in this. I await your testimonials!

How to start a business in Africa without having a dime! Part 3

The following are 7 steps you can start out (PART 3) from my detailed findings.

5. Think towards affiliate marketing.

You help people sell their products and services, and you can get paid a commission! You can start by using your WhatsApp groups, contacts and status to advertise for your clients. Then your Facebook, Instagram and all active social handles. You help people sell their land, cars, products, services for a commission.

Look at for your friends and family who does business, help advertise their products and services, they'll give you plenty money.
Ensure you're relevant to everyone on your list. Bring business opportunities for them and split the cash.

6. Think Content Creating Online...

Many of us are good at sharing funny scenes on our WhatsApp status, Facebook, Instagram, but funny enough don't know we can earn from it. Well, it takes some consistency to get winning in this. You can start by simply being in charge of social media pages of brands. Or you start your own blog, YouTube channel, Instagram page and earn from your traffic. This is what brought Mark Angel and Emmanuella Comedy to limelight. Businesses can even pay you to advertise on your platform.

7. Think selling!

I hit a 'God has done it moments' on hearing the words that 'If you want to make money, sell something or help others sell something for a fee.' Think about all the information that you can sell; skills, talents, products or services. Would you need to publish a book to sell? Or a music or drama? Or launch an Innovative projects? Whatever it is, come up with a strong offers to sell to people.

Remember, selling is the number one and oldest way of making money. You can start by selling other people products for a commission. Think about real estate realtors that earn 10% of every property they sell. Think about hostels around you looking for clients, you can help them.

All the large business and religious conferences that holds around you is an opportunity for leveraged; you can offer your house as guess house while people pay you on a daily basis or recommend them to quality hostels for a fee.

You would do yourself a huge Favour if you don't just end at thinking but rather crazy execution.

Don't go for short cuts. There is no short cuts! Go the smart and diligent way! These are the 7 ways of starting out based on my findings. If you have more to this, feel free to drop on the comment section. Thank you.
