Background

It all started when I needed data to carry some analysis. While 'window shopping' on Nairaland's auto section, I discovered that I had huge data all around me.

It was tedious for me to gather the data. I did not use web scrapping (cos I have limited knowledge on it. Of course this will prompt me to fix that loophole).


Methodology
I used random method to gather that data. I chose pages randomly, ranging from more recent posts to older ones. And I ensured that I exhaust all the information on a page (without preference)

Location
the data were exclusively from Nairaland Auto section.

Nature of analysis
I only carried out descriptive analysis.

What I did not do
I did not carry out statistical tests or inference. Neither did I create any model for this analysis. This would have required more information and time, which I do not have.

Brands of cars

Toyota has the highest brands of cars posted on this section of Nairaland. 46.5% of all the vehicles posted on the auto section of Nairaland belongs to Toyota company. 13.89% of the cars are Lexus brand. 11.1% are Honda's. And Mercedes has about 10.4% of all the cars on that section.

Median price per company

The median price of Infinity vehicle in that section is about 12 million naira. Which is the most expensive brand. The next on that list is Jaguar brand with average value of about 6 million naira. Ford brands have median value of about 4 million naira




NOTE: I am aware that there are some more expensive brands like Royce Royce in this section. But they were not included in this dataset.
I used median for most my measure of centres not mean. This is because mean is highly prone to outliers and there few of them on the data. And I did not want remove them.

Condition of vehicles

53.47% of all the vehicles posted for sale in the auto section are foreign used. While 42.36% are Nigerian used. The new vehicles are 4.17%

Price/condition

New vehicles cost about 17 million naira on the average. Nigeria used is about 1.45 million. While foreign used vehicle is about 2.45 million naira.

Mileage per condition

Well, as expected, new vehicles have minimal mileage. Foreign used vehicles have average of 13,000 mileage. While Nigerian used have about 2000.

This means that it's either the mileage of Nigerian used vehicles have been rolled back. Or they are out rightly lying. This does not mean that the the mileage of the foreign used have not been doctored either.

Location

Unknown- 34% ( people that did not put their location on their post)

Lagos - 46.5%

Kaduna- 7.6

Abuja---6.9%

Distribution of vehicles



The commonest car in that section is Toyota Camry (18%). While Toyota Corolla takes about 12% of all the vehicles in that section.
