Fake! Fake! Fake!

Trying to distract us. If a camera needs light to take a picture, it means for that for an 100 light years distance to be captured the camera must wait for at least 100 years to take the image.

Since the reflection of NASA's camera and their photo capturing mechanism is faster than the speed of light they should have used it to calculate the distance. Like "2 NASA camera days" should be the distance. grin grin grin

We should have waited for 100years to get the images in the year 2120.

I beg to disagree, Sir.
I find this discovery an evidence of an Intelligent Design who's still creating new universes. .

The discovery of planets are not evidence of intelligent design. If anything it points to the fact that planets are formed and exist randomly and those that exist in certain habitable zones and contain building blocks of life in sufficient quantity are those capable of supporting life.

And why would an intelligent designer be creating universes? According to the Bible, God has created everything. So you are contradicting your own belief when you say that God is still creating new universes.

salt1:

My brand of religion, the Christian faith, admits that there are other worlds and other forms and phases of life. .

The Christian Faith admits that the other forms of life that exist are not detectable by any physical means. That means that your faith says that life that exist is not bound by the laws of nature and so they cannot be carbon-based life. Because carbon based life is detectable.
So your premise is wrong.

Until you can show me that the Bible specifically stated that other planets did exist and that life could and indeed exist on these planets.

salt1:

Man is in control of only one planet called Earth, not the entire universe..

Wrong. Man is not in control of anything except his own life. Heck, we can't even control our own lives that is why we have accidental deaths and we all make silly mistakes virtually every day.

The earth can and will do fine without man. If anything, we are bad "controllers" who have only inflicted damage after damage to the planet.

salt1:

God rules His vast creation.
Thanks for your patience.

Religious semantics. Enjoy.

What powers such assertion is the fundamental belief that nothing is better than something.

This is one of the thoughts that leads one down the road of nihilism. I want to assume you know the consequences of thinking you're insignificant.

Religion was man's invention to deal with that thought.
This idea of insignificance usually leads to the adoption of immoral choices - because what exactly is holding you back from killing your neighbour. His/her life doesn't matter after all.

If your life doesn't matter than the effect of your choices wouldn't matter either.
Why should it matter if you don't matter. Being moral is impossible without accountability.

You may say - *I can hold myself accountable"
Then my question would be - what makes you so sure you should be your own standard of morality? Which is usually the inspiration for tyranny.

History has given us enough lessons.

... we can have a debate on this here, if you're interested.

Quite the opposite. According to the available evidence, the best conclusion to come to is that a lot of planets exists. We have discovered a lot of planets and so far we can only find life on Earth.

So far it is safe to say that we are alone. The only issue is that we have not even discovered up to 1% of the observable universe so it is a huge leap to conclude that life cannot exist in other planets. Because theoretically they can. Even though we have not actually observed them.

Due to the above, it is pretty obvious that we exist on ONE (out of nine) planet in ONE solar system out of a billion others in ONE galaxy out of a trillion others. If we didn't exist it wouldn't change anything. Any significance we think we have on the happenings on the Universal scale is an illusion. It just is.

And if you need a book to tell you that murder is bad or that you have to respect and be nice to people until they prove otherwise, if you need a god who has been proven to be sadistic and misogynistic and totally deprived of actual morality to tell you how to be good then you're not a good person.

I don't have a problem with that statement, my problem lies with nihilistic beliefs that grow from the statement.

Also...

Your decisions don't need to have an effect of cosmic proportions before it's considered significant.

I also never said we only need a God to be accountable, that's why we have laws.
Those laws are predicated on the belief that our actions matter. Even the God in the bible saw the usefulness of laws.

Things can quickly degenerate to lawlessness once you believe your actions are insignificant.

You need something that keeps you in check, be it God or laws. They are both useful.

Let's dissect the idea of God.
what do you think God represents in the minds of those who wrote the bible?
The highest authority there is.

Who'd would you submit too? A human with the same deficiencies as you and with the same likelihood as you to fall for temptations? Or someone above our level of temptations who has no one he answers to?

The idea of God is a a useful one. Atrocities has been committed in his name by men who believe theirs is the final authority.

You can't function adequately without value systems. You must value something or what it could offer you to pursue it. And God represents the highest value possible. He's an ideal. The most moral one who can't be judged.

And I'm speaking of God on a purely psychological level stripped off its metaphysical attributes.

Nice work. Good discovery.
Good job done by NASA.

However, what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, what shall he give in exchange for his soul.

If you are reading this and you don’t know Jesus yet neither have you accepted him as your lord and saviour, I welcome you to receive him into your life.

You are the reason why he died many years ago.
Yes you. Apostle Paul said “this is a reasonable and accepted saying, that Jesus died for sinners of whom I am a chief”

Please don’t allow his death to go in vain over you.
He loves you , he really does.

You might be a church goer, it is of no use if you don’t have a relationship with the owner of the church.

Rev 3:20 He stands at the door of your life and is calling you to come now. Please answer this call and be saved.

God bless you.

stop watching American movies, if there is any alien as intelligent as man, we are safe because they are at least intelligent enough to see the advantages of co-existence, if we could save animals like lion that is a threat then someone more intelligent will reason like us or better, if we are more intelligent then there is no need to worry, we will develop technology to meet them before they meet us.

This is not the age of Alexander the great, humans do not go ahead conquering others.

Newsflash, lions (along with everything else) are rapidly declining in numbers due to man's actions. In fact, my precise fear is that they are as 'intelligent as man'.

And men did not stop killing each other after Alexander the Great. In fact, we have discovered much better ways of getting the job done over the centuries since then.

I don't have a problem with that statement, my problem lies with nihilistic beliefs that grow from the statement.

Nihilism isn't inherently bad. At least as used in this context. I think it makes life even more precious. The realisation that out of all this nothingness, I can actually feel joy is an exonerating feeling and makes me want to enjoy every moment I get, of this gift called life.

bindukwe:

Your decisions don't need to have an effect of cosmic proportions before it's considered significant.

That'll be self-contradicting. On an individual scale or interpersonal/community scale yes our actions do have consequences. But when it comes to the cosmos it is pretty much negligible if not entirely nonexistent. -Think about it- what is the single most powerful thing we have developed to date? Nuclear weapons.

Yet we have several events that happened in solar systems that even all the nukes all over the world combined cannot measure up to 10% of this cosmic events. We are that small.

bindukwe:

I also never said we only need a God to be accountable, that's why we have laws.
Those laws are predicated on the belief that our actions matter. Even the God in the bible saw the usefulness of laws.

The law can be useful for some but not all. A lot of people (say 90%?) go through life without having read the constitution and they live their entire lives without going to jail.

And that somehow would be my point..Why would we need laws to determine right from wrong? Because of our innate nature? It further drives home my point. If we were as intelligent as we thought we would be able to care for each other without needing laws. We are not as special as we think.

bindukwe:

Things can quickly degenerate to lawlessness once you believe your actions are insignificant.

Actions have consequences. It just depends on the stage at which we're looking at it. Every decision we make affect our lives or the life of others in one way or the other. But on a global or cosmic scale more often than not it is insignificant.

Me being an armed robber could lead to a loss of human lives and/or reduce a lot of people to poverty.

On the grand scale it does not in any way have an impact on the formation of the next Black hole.

This is my point.

bindukwe:

You need something that keeps you in check, be it God or laws. They are both useful.

Not true. Not everybody needs god or laws to leave between the limits of civility. they are countries with extremely low crime rates and that doesn't mean that they are particularly strong believers of God or that they have strict laws.

I think the next stage of evolutionary advancement would be humans who are able to coexist relatively peacefully with each other without needing objective laws.

bindukwe:

Let's dissect the idea of God.
what do you think God represents in the minds of those who wrote the bible?
The highest authority there is.

The idea of God in the minds of those who wrote the Bible seems to me to be a totalitarian, authoritarian, unquestionable dictator who created the universe and rules it the way he wishes. That would have been probably fine but they also went on to say that this God loves us unconditionally. These two premises are self-contradicting and logically impossible.

bindukwe:

Who'd would you submit too? A human with the same deficiencies as you and with the same likelihood as you to fall for temptations? Or someone above our level of temptations who has no one he answers to?

Why must I "submit?"

Anyway if I were to I would probably go for a human who understood that he had same deficiencies as I and he's able to actually thrash things out with me and we can reach an agreement as to how to move forward.

Submitting to someone who has no other person to answer to might be a gamble as any wrong move would now being possible to question or even acknowledge. But theists seem to be comfortable with this. And that's probably why Christopher Hitchens said the theistic believe is usually "born out of the desire to be a slave."

And yes, that has been personally confirmed in followers of Christianity who label themselves "I am nothing without Jesus" or those who decry "Use me oh lord." "my riches without Jesus are nothing."

bindukwe:

The idea of God is a a useful one. Atrocities has been committed in his name by men who believe theirs is the final authority.

yes and that is a damning thought: the fact that more atrocities have been committed in the name of God than in the name of Satan.

And that people feel more comfortable when doing evil in the name of God than for any other purpose.

bindukwe:

You can't function adequately without value systems. You must value something or what it could offer you to pursue it. And God represents the highest value possible. He's an ideal. The most moral one who can't be judged.

Value systems are necessary. But a god who makes himself infallible and unquestionable to his own creation definitely doesn't value his own creation either. because he if he did he would be willing to offer a listening ear as to what they thought about his actions.

That sort of God would then be flawed according to his own standards.
