Argue with BBC who gave Yaya Toure the award.
https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/25154008
isn't this a popularity-based award?

How can you cite a popularity contest, something that is opened to the general BIASED public, as a valid means of determining a player's influence?

Even more, what exactly does Yaya Toure have to do with this discussion? Are you not tired of embarrassing yourself?

mikel was immense and a colossal figure in that afcon winning team. he was class above others and was suppose to be voted player of the tournament which he lost by little voting numbers to the burkina faso player that won it.

obi was too smooth and classy althrough the tournament
Class above Moses?
absolute nonsense.....
Tell that to kids who didn't watch 2013 Afcon....
Moses came back from injury and led nigeria to the knockouts after missing the first group stage game...
he delivered a masterclass in the semis and finals....
what kind of rewriting of history be this .....
Moses was Nigeria's best player at that Afcon..... Fact

I've read alot of below par analysis on bleachers previously. Their transfer speculation are some of the daftest jokes on the internet. I can scarvage the internet and pull articles agreeing why Yaya deserves the award.
Even BBC gave Yaya Toure the BBC African player of the year award. But will rather not pull such articles to embarrass you, Jihday and bleachers.
Truth is no one needs any validation from bleacher or whatever to tell you Yaya was Africa best in 2013.....Mikel shouldn't even be in the same sentence with Yaya toure...
It's embarrassing

Na the kind of pple wey dey rate dribblers and showboaters ahead of players with efficiency and tactical discipline

My Brother Charles... Even me, I know say Eto'o deserve the APOTY when he was up against our own mesmerising Okocha. There are times when it is the strikers that are most influential but it is not all the time.

Honestly the matter tire me ooo.... I don resign from the mata Biko. Lol

am not among those arguing that yaya didn't deserved it but my point is that mikel was too good in the 2013 afcon and was suppose to be voted player of the tournament.

The argument is not if Mikel played a role in winning afcon or not. The argument is him being the most INFLUENCIAL.
Are you saying without Mbah's effort, Moses goals, assists and threat, Emenike's power, industry and goals/assists, Enyeams's world class saves and leadership as captain, we would have won because somehow Mikel performed better than all these guys? Come on man.
guy seriously I don't know how you're trying to argue this matter. Even a blind toddler could see that Mikel was our most influential player for that tournament.

Mikel performed in the early stages he performed in the latter stages. This is somebody that was responsible for creating nearly 50% of our goals for that tournament. Sunday that you mention tried for us no doubt but you can't equate his cameo performances in two matches against that of Mikel throughout the competition.

cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy same here, etoo deserved it during the time he won it head of our own jay jay, the only time jay jay was robbed was the 1998 award which he lost to mustafa hadji while oliseh came third if am correct. that year jay jay was the best african player in europe and was mercurial at the world cup too

I still feel mikel deserved to win it thou

Yes mikel should not be in the same sentence with yaya doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve to win it

Mind you we are not comparing mikel and yaya ooo

Should van dijk be in the same sentence with Messi and Cr7 ? No but he won the European player of the year ahead of them and came second in the balon d or ahead of Cr7

How convenient you turned blind when the guy pulled articles from bleachers but scronfully quoted me for rebuting his bleachers report with BBC award from the same year and same players.
Your African footballer of the year and Ballon d'Or are they not popularity contest where captains and select journalists vote? Abeg swerve
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by charlesemeka85(m): 2:34pm On Jan 08, 2020
the advantage yaya had against mikel was that then he was tearing the epl and europe to pieces in the colors of city and rated among the best in the world. if the award was given to the better performer in the afcon that same year mikel would have won it but i think the voters took their performances in europe more into consideration before voting.

I don't have problems with CAF about the awards since everything is subject to voting by a particular section of the African confederation.

For every voter has his or her reason or reasons for voting the various awardees just like every African football fan equally has his or hers

Good point....but I feel what Yaya did that year just might have been hard to overlook him....He was clearly the best player Africa had at that time.....
just like MANE winning it this year ahead of Mahrez....Mahrez was better than Mane at the Afcon but you can't discount what mane and salah did over a full year just because they couldn't win a one month tournament...

bro he was 9ja's best. he won 3 or 4 motm awards and lost the most valuable player of the tournament by little margin to a burkina faso player. the likes of emenike and moses were good too but mikel topped them. he was the engine room and heart of that team.

in his position as a cm he did his work very well by defending, creating and orchestrating play from the middle. in that tournament mikel gave his all most especially when it became likely that the team stands a chance of winning it after the defeat of the almighty ivorians.

go back and watch all the game right from the 1st match to the finals.

Nigeria couldn't win their first two matches cos moses wasn't fit.... the semi against Mali, Victor moses was clearly the man of the match..... against ivory coast mbah and emenike were the heroes
Finals mbah and Moses were up there.. I watched that tournament bro....I don't need to rewatch sh*t

and caf was daft to rate mikel as the 2nd most valuable player in that tournament right? do you know he won 3-4 man of the match awards and had 3 assist? a player is rated not by how many players he dribbles or goals scored but his importance, contribution and efficiency to the team.

the same reason canavaro a cb was italy's best in the 2006 world cup ahead of influential team mates such as totti, pirlo, gattuso, buffon, toni just to mention a few. also he went ahead to win the balon d'or the same year.

its now obvious you know little about the game of football. keep on watching for the sake of love and passion cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

Cannavaro was adjudged the best player at the 2006 WC, Matterazi scored their equalizer in the final, Grosso scored the winning penalty, Pirlo and Del Piero scored the decisive goals in the Semi. Do you mean cannavaro doesn't deserve it just because he didn't contribute to any of the goals? Is that how football works?

I’m sure you don’t know cannavaro influence in dat italy World Cup winning squad. Let me help you a little

Cannarvaro played every minute of all Italy matches. They only conceded two penalties ( none from open play) . The most interesting fact is that he didn’t receive any card throughout the whole tournament.
