American government, Saudi Arabia, NATO, Egypt, Bahrain and co supported Iraq and gave her all the weapons and logistics during the Iran/Iraqi war yet they couldn't defeat Iran. Iranians are not Arabs.

The onus is on the bigger power to show restraint no matter what. These smaller powers can disturb without fear because they have actually nothing to loose, they are coming from the position of relative weakness.

For example, you remember how Turkey had the mind to shoot down a Russian fighter jet just like that. Russia could have escalated it but they choose no to not because they are weak but Big powers have to show restraint. The big superpowers respect themselves more because they know what is involved.
For example, the US would never have done what Turkey did by shooting down a Russian aircraft when they know it strayed into their territory by mistake and not coming for an attack. Russia will also not do that. What they do have done will be to scramble jets and escort it out of their airspace.

So i am not surprised with Iran. That is what a weaker nation will do and US choosing not to escalate it is in line with what a superior power will do.
